Posted June 13, 201015 yr I've just checking all the songs that have been T10 overall this year, comparing their peaks against where they reached in iTunes. Nearly all of them have actually peaked higher on iT than they have overall, because the resolution of the iT chart is 1 day, rather than 1 week. The biggest differences I've found though, are : Florence - YGTL #5 overall, #1 iT Aggro Santos #5, #2 Eminem #5, #2 Glee - TOETH #9, #2!!
June 13, 201015 yr Inna - Hot: #3 iTunes, #6 officially (#8 in the week when she was #3 in iTunes). Sugababes - Wear My Kiss: #5 iTunes, #7 officially. I think we can find a lot of this stuff basically because it's quite easier to get a high peak in iTunes than in the original chart. I mean there is only one #1 weekly in the official chart while in iTunes we can technically get as many #1s as many updates we have. Same goes to any other peak. The opposite examples IMO are more interesting: Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet: #32 iTunes, #25 officially. Edited June 13, 201015 yr by Arrs
June 13, 201015 yr Adam Lambert - For Your Entertainment iTunes: #20 Official chart: #37 Edited June 13, 201015 yr by SceneofSIXCrimes
June 13, 201015 yr There's a load of physical-led singles (often ones by older acts) that peak low on iTunes, Oasis did this last era with a #11 peak for "The Shock of the Lightning" (#3 official), #80something for "I'm Outta Time" (#12) and #25 (?) for "Falling Down" (#10). Otherwise, Miley Cyrus has gotten into the iTunes top 10 a couple of times and missed out on the official, most extremely when "Can't Be Tamed" got to #4 but doesn't look like peaking above #13 :D Also, cherrypicked future singles from new albums tend to do far better on iTunes. "Dirtee Cash" went to #3 I think, similar with "Blah Blah Blah", "Ridin' Solo" got into the #20s before dropping and climbing again while it was still outside the official Top 40. "Airplanes" and Pendulum's "Watercolour" have done this recently. And some of my favourites from last year peaked lower officially. Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" flew to #11 then got stuck, this was on a Friday so it only reached #21 officially. Paramore and 30 Seconds to Mars took too long to get to the top 15 on iTunes (peaked at #11 and #14 respectively I think) so didn't match that officially. "Kings & Queens" only got to #28, such an underachiever looking back at it :o
June 13, 201015 yr On to the Next One, by Jay-Z peaked at #38 officially, but it peaked at fifty-something on iTunes. That was a bit of a shock. And Blah Blah Blah was one of the most surprising too, with #3 and #11.
June 13, 201015 yr Paul Weller No Tears To Cry, #26 officially and only got to about the 80s on iTunes IIRC
June 13, 201015 yr The opposite examples IMO are more interesting: Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet: #32 iTunes, #25 officially. Also Kylie Minogue - In My Arms #25 on iTunes and #10 officially (that was #25 the week after as well!) Ages ago but downloads still had much the same impact so I'll still count it.
