well yes:

1. Its them

2. They have a huge fanbase who will buy and (allegedly ;) ) multi-buy anything they release (One Shot suffered as the album was already available)

3. to quote the most depressing reason of all: 'dey iz well fit innit'

4. its urban, the main genre around atm

I also hope that they dont make it as the song is utter tripe and literal autotuned ear-ache

I have lost all respect for Digital Spy when I read that they gave it 4 stars out of 5 :(

Just because JLS are black does not make this an urban tune. There is nothing remotely urban about The Club is Alive it it the worst kind of over-autotuned pop music.Digital Spy stopped given good song reviews a long time ago, plus the reviewer does not talk much about the song just that they have gone in a new direction.

It's as urban as The Black Eyed Peas are urban (given it's a direct clone of Boom Boom Pow pretty much), and as far as the main 'urban' audience is concerned, that's urban.

According to some, The Club is Alive, Shout, Baby, Everybody Hurts, Don't Stop Believin', Blah Blah Blah, Somebody To Love, Empire State of Mind, Pass Out, One Time AND Under Pressure are ALL the worst song of the year.

'I Need You Tonight' can be added as well. -_-

I cannot imagine anyone who likes relevant Urban acts would even consider downloading JLS.The BEP's may have been considered Urban pre Fergie when they had really good songs but ever since her addition they to are just a pop/dance act.I am not even sure what you would define as the main urban audience anyway.

So you've come round to 'BedRock' now, Aly? :kink:

Hmm, out of those- Id say Shout, Baby and One Time are the worst-

although my worst song is comfortably Opposite of Adults- I will never forgive those chavs for murdering MGMT! coming close is OMG and Replay

Unlike most, I love both DSBs and Pass Out (even though I hated it at first :kink: ) and Under Pressure, well I love Jedward, so i cant hate that :D

Yeah, it does sound a lot like BBP (heck, most songs seem to nowadays, I suppose it's to be expected, after people realized that style of music could be so successful, in mainstreem society, and not just in the underground scene). Boom Boom Pow is a hip hop song, which is a genre that falls into the urban catergory 98% of the time. But Boom Boom Pow and The Club is Alive both have a bit of dance pop in them too, which doesn't have to be urban (although it can be).

Id assume they are trying to go urban, as Bray said, it sounds very similar to Black Eyed Peas

although yes, it does sound more pop-oriented

It's really been a completely dire year for chart music, well the first 4 or 5 months were anyway.

It's far far far better now, with the exceptions of the horrendous Shout, and the upcoming monstrosity The Club Is Alive, and I was a fan of their first three singles - quite a step back after the promise shown on One Shot in my opinion :(

Urban just cos they're black?

It's a far cry from urban. Pure pop. There are no R&B, hip-hop or rap elements to it at all.

It's probably along the same level musically as the singles from the last Flo Rida album or something. Except far worse of course.

Again, I wasnt saying it was urban just because their black

It just has similar elements to other urban songs like the Boom Boom Pow, i.e. autotune being the main one

I wouldnt call it pure pop, pop with R'n'B as a sub-genre maybe, again, as urban as the Black Eyed Peas releases

Auto-tune isn't a genre or an element of a specific genre though. It's not urban. It just so happens to be used urban songs (BEP's album) and also pop songs (Tik Tok, TCIA etc).

There is no similarity between BBP and TCIA musically except from the auto-tune. There is rap and hip-hop in BBP, there's none of that in TCIA. :D

hey everyone,

i noticed that you mentioned enrique was released next week....but i already purchased this off itunes last week. I just searched the song and it came up.

you're probably thinking i got the wrong version or somethin but i can reassure you that i got the OFFICIAL version. I searched today out of curiousity and it had been deleted.

But i have got the single, thats why i was surprised that it hadnt charted.

Yeh it was definately there.. I saw it too whilst doing an update, but was then deleted

& I'm not gonna sit here trying to defend JLS as you all clearly hate the song & them.. Although I don't mind the song I think it is one of their worst.. & can't wait for them to move onto the next single and album.. It is pretty clear that they will get a number 1.. People complaining about it is getting a bit boring though.. We all knew it would do well

Also hate how apparently every single JLS fan multibuys and loves them "cos they are fit" .. I admit I probably like them more due to the fact that I've been a big fan ever since their audition and have met them quite a few times.. but maybe fans are buying it because they actually like the song ? Theres actually a poll on the forum and Everybody In Love/The Club Is Alive are the fan favourites so far

OK, point taken :D

Wikipedia class it as 'Pop, R&B, dance-pop' which, unusually for Wiki, think is pretty accurate

I don't think JLS are urban. But either way, I liked their first 3 singles but CIA is disgustingly bad. I was pleased when it was flopping at radio but now it seems to be on its way up ¬_¬ I hope it doesn't go to #1!

I think the similarities between Boom Boom Pow and the Club is Alive go further than the autotune (although autotune is probably the biggie). Like the techno synth-ish sounds that come halfway through Boom Boom Pow sound similar to some of the sound effects in The Club is Alive.

And, there are urban elements to JLS songs, so I can understand why people say they're urban, but I think they're mainly pop. Sort of like how Jason Derulo's songs, Ridin' Solo and In My Head, are pop and rock songs respectively, but they're urban too.

Airplanes is up to #10, whilst Not Afrain drops to #11, so there's only one Eminem song in the top 10 now (although Airplanes sort of is an Eminem song). Not Afraid has another entry at #24, which I think is rising, so it's not falling that much overall.
