How is this song "taking a risk"? :unsure: It's surely one of the most safe choices from the album, no? A risk to me, would be releasing something like 'Government Hooker', 'Bloody Mary', 'Americano', 'Heavy Metal Lover' or 'Scheiße' or something. Not this. I recommend people stick with The 4-non-blondes 'What's Going On?' original. It's far superior, imo.

 

Because she has not released a non-dance song in her entire career. It's also quite country-esque and generally a different sound for her.

Pretty sure You and I is a slow to mid tempo ballad though...

 

Well, I'd probably say this is the closest thing to a ballad on the album, but perhaps not quite there.

 

Maybe this is slightly risky in some aspects, but compared to what she could choose, I'd say this is playing it safe.

Don't like the 'Yoü & I' choreography AT ALL. Looks like something from a school play.

I think her fifth single would be what would save her stardom as I think she's going downhill with every release from Born This Way... (bar The Edge Of Glory)...

Well Gaga isn't much of a dancer and all her choreography is pretty simple but I agree that 'You and I' is much better performed at a piano.

You & I charted really well when the album was released (didn't it go top 10 on iTunes?) so that has probably persuaded the label to go with it. Unfortunately it's not that radio-friendly at all so I can't see it connecting with the general public. We'll see though, maybe the video will be amazing although I'm not holding my breath after the Edge Of Glory fiasco.

Yes, it went Top 10 on US iTunes the week of the album release, entering at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100. She had performed it on a few TV shows over there though with the first on The Today Show in July 2010.

 

It also entered the Canadian Hot 100 at #27 and the Official UK Chart at #89.

OT, this song is actually starting to make far more sense to me as a single. It'll crossover without a doubt. I can actually see this ending up as a classic somewhere down the road. However, I agree with what's been said before that it doesn't represent the album whatsoever. At least she didn't put this out as a first single...

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't get enough of this song at the minute. Two weeks ago I was moaning about it being a single, and I do still think its a silly decision, but that aside, its bloody brilliant. Love it. :wub: Excited for the video now. :D
