Posted July 13, 201015 yr It has been announced, (by The OCC?), that Kylie Minogue's current No.1 Album makes her the first FEMALE SOLO Act, to have had No.1 Albums in 4 different Decades. As usual, this has been misinterpreted by many 'Media People'. They think it means that Kylie is the first & ONLY Solo Act to achieve the feat. (That no Male Solo Act has ever managed it). Indeed, in some Internet Forums, people think it means that Kylie is the FIRST Act to manage it - that no Group, or Solo Male, ever has done so before. Which is why Gordon 'Misnomer' Smart, has got the Article below, in his Column in 'The Sun' today:, FAB FOUR FOR KYLIE by Gordon Smart "KYLIE MINOGUE has become the first solo artist in UK chart history to have four No1 albums in different decades. It came as a big surprise to me, too. The popstrel has clocked up chart-topping albums in the Eighties, Nineties, Noughties and now this new decade. Her eleventh studio album Aphrodite hit No1 on Sunday, entering the charts 22 years after her first, Kylie, hit the top spot. She also scored a No1 with Kylie's Greatest Hits in 1992 and 2001's Fever". @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ACTS WITH No.1 UK ALBUMS IN 4 DECADES Here are the Acts who have had No.1 Albums in 4, (or more), different Decades:, 1) ROLLING STONES - 5 Decades - (1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, & 2010) Their 2010 No.1 Album, 'Exile On Main Street', is a Re-master of their 1972 No.1, of course. BUT - it is still a No.1 Album, in a different Decade. 2)=ELVIS PRESLEY - 4 Decades - (1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 'The Noughties') 2)=CLIFF RICHARD - 4 Decades - (1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's) 2=BEATLES - 4 Decades - (1960's, 1970's, 1990's, 2000's) 2)=TOM JONES - 4 Decades - (1960's, 1970's, 1990's, 'The Noughties') 2)=PAUL SIMON - 4 Decades - (1960's, 1970,'s, 1980's, 1990's) 2)=ABBA - 4 Decades - (1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's) 2)=KYLIE MINOGUE - 4 Decades - (1980’s, 1990’s, ‘The Noughties’, & 2010) Except for the Rolling Stones, & Paul Simon, ALL of the above Acts have at least 1 'Hits' Album, that is counted towards their 'Decades'. Paul Simon's 1960's No.1 was with Simon & Garfunkel - but, his name is credited. ABBA's 2008 No.1 - 'Gold' - was the same Album as their 1990's No.1, but it was still a No.1 Album in 2 Decades. No-one said that the No.1 Albums have to be different - just the Decades! MADONNA, & BARBRA STREISAND, are the only other 2 Solo Females to have had No.1 Albums, in more than 2 different Decades - 3 Decades each. Barbra, in the 1970's, 1980's, & 'The Noughties'. Madonna in the 1980's, 1990's, & 'The Noughties'. Madonna's next Studio Album, should see her become the 2nd Solo Female to have 4 Decades of No.1 Albums. OTHER ACTS - No.1 ALBUMS IN 3 DECADES Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Queen, Police, Bruce Springsteen, & George Michael, have also had No.1 Albums in 3 different Decades. (PLUS - Fleetwood Mac, & AC/DC - Thanks Suedehead2! And U2 - Thanks - Adyhodges, at UKMIX. And Diana Ross, Morrissey, Bon Jovi, & Oasis - Thanks Woz1234, at UKMIX. Especially thanks to him, for pointing out that Tom Jones & Paul Simon, have had No.1 Albums in 4 Decades - not 3. I'm only counting Acts who are credited by name, which is why I count Diana Ross, but not Paul Weller). NOTE - Do let me know if I've missed out any Acts. Edited July 14, 201015 yr by zeus555

July 14, 201015 yr are you sure about ABBA? I don't think they had a #1 in 2000s ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits went to #1 again in 2008.

July 14, 201015 yr Author I've added U2, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Morrissey, Bon Jovi, & Oasis to my Original Post. Thanks to 2 Guys at UKMIX, for pointing them out. One of them - Woz1234, also pointed out that Tom Jones has had No.1 Albums in 4 Decades, not 3. 'Reload' went to No.1 in both 1999 & 2000. Paul Simon also had No.1 Albums in 4 Decades - his 1960's one - 'Bookends' (1968) - in Simon & Garfunkel. Edited July 14, 201015 yr by zeus555
July 15, 201015 yr Do you have a list for this, but with singles? I don't know about number ones, but there are only two artists who have had top 10 hits in every decade from the '60s to the '00s and that's Cher and Cliff Richard.
July 16, 201014 yr Author I don't know about number ones, but there are only two artists who have had top 10 hits in every decade from the '60s to the '00s and that's Cher and Cliff Richard. But, Cliff had 5 1950's Top 10 Hits, too - between 1958 & 1959. So, he's the only Act to have had Top 10 Hits, in every Decade, from the 1950's to 'The Noughties'. Elvis Presley managed Top 10 Hits in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, & 'The Noughties'. But, he had none in the 1990's. Then again, he had a huge disadvantage - compared to Cliff - he Died in 1977! Edited July 16, 201014 yr by zeus555

July 17, 201014 yr Well Kylie just beat Madonna by a matter of months. TALK about being BITTER, a SPOILT BRAT + UNSPORTING! Naturally Madonna beats Kylie at practically every record + you can't TAKE a little minor one like this LIKE A MAN...Jesus! SHE STILL BEAT HER :cheer: just LIKE Kylie BEAT her to a FIRST achieving 2 Million selling album by a FEMALE SOLO act in the UK,with DEBUT "Kylie" :cheer: - "True Blue" NEARLY sold 2 million BUT DIDN'T (currently STILL few 10k short) Edited July 17, 201014 yr by ima
July 17, 201014 yr Author That's not a disadvantage. Didn't is someone say "Good career move!" the day he died? The disadvantage being that Elvis has not been able to record New material since 1977. Every Hit he has, can only be Re-issues or Re-mixes. Every Hit Album that he has, can only be Compilations of his old material. Cliff can do New stuff, & has done since Elvis died. A big advantage.
