I think that was the year after, ironically also with a song called I Can.

I know what you mean about Daz, the concept of the song mirrors what's happening in the charts today - except obviously the artists are all in their early 20's as opposed to mid 30's like he was - maybe that's what put some people off? I don't think the rest of Europe is quite there yet, I know Tinie Tempah has had some success but most of the UK rap acts that do well here never do well anywhere else, so I'm not so sure Teenage Life would perform any better now. That said, 19th or 20th, wherever it came, was a massive injustice imo. Glad it made the UK top ten though :D

Hahaha. I did think it was strange a mid 30's guy, performing with a couple of teenage girls on stage :\ If that was performed now, average BBC viewer would be having a field day with OFCOM!

Exactly! It smacked of being a little bit wrong, but nobody seemed overly bothered about it. But I got the impression that Daz is one of those nostalgia freaks who longs to be younger again, hence why he still keeps churning out cheesy pop at his age. I'll never forget Kung Fu Fighting or Rhinestone Cowboy  There was never anything sinister about the performance/routine to me, just a guy reminiscing about his school days  Being a viewer from another country though, I guess it may have looked very strange indeed what with the blackboard and desks on the stage, and Daz dressed up in a yellow bomber jacket. But I think they rely on the UK entry for light relief that nobody votes for anyway :kink:

Or in other words "Toilet Break". Poor us. It's about time we got given a decent break with a decent song. Hoping Blue can deliver! But like I said earlier, I'd rather we just stole 'Dont Wanna Lose You Again' :heehee:

Exactly  I always go to the toilet when Turkey are on, 10 years I've been intently following the contest and I'm still yet to ever particularly enjoy one of their entries. Yet they do exceptionally well every year - I just don't understand how sometimes -_-

It's definitely a shame that there's no rule that we can pick the best leftovers from other National Finals! A1 would have done very nicely for us last year! But it seems that we were holding off for another reformed boyband

BLASPHEMY! 'Dum Tek Tek' is amazing! :o (As is her 'Fast Life' album!!) How could you use Hadise as a "toilet break"? :(

Haha. I really can't believe they didn't get sent last year! It would have probably got 12 points from us, for sure. Do you know if A1 are still planning on giving it a go over here? DWLYA is epic and too good not to get released! :( I know their album is on the Release schedule, but it'll probably get cancelled or just be an "import only" sort of album

Sorry, I found it completely generic and average  Don't think it deserved to beat Jade into 4th place, although it was our own fault seeing as our points for Turkey nudged them further ahead :drama:

Well, indeed their album is still on the release schedule in the coming soon section but in all honesty, I can't see it coming out here - maybe they'll fart it out via the band's website and that's about it :/ I think it would have got maybe 8 points from us, Turkey and Greece are always a lock on for our top two regardless of what they send :drama:

Oh yeah. I swear we vote for Greece just for the token "LOL." vote. Particularly last year. I think we gave them 12 didn't we? I was sure Belgium and Germany would do the best with our points last year :( But it would have been around the time of Ben Adams' Top 4 finish in Celeb Big Brother, so it would have done well with us I think..

We did, which was an outrage imo, Opa was tragic. Germany got 3 or something from us, but 7 in the televote, our jury didn't really rate it apparently :( Really thought Belgium would do better with us, seems like the sort of thing that the UK would appreciate yet we didn't give them anything.

Oh, I thought Ben Adams on CBB was a year or two before that?

I'm pretty impartial to Blue, so it'll be interesting to see how they do! High points from Ireland I'd say, they were quite big here! Good luck UK, hope you get a 2009-style result! ^_^
If Anthony Costa failed to represent us one year, I can't see Blue doing any better.

We don't know how he would have done, he didn't make it out of the national final (because he had a completely average song imo), whereas Blue have a guaranteed spot in Eurovision. Lets hope that the song is more of an event than that one was.

I think Blue is a better choice,as at least more of Europe will be familiar with them, not a bad choice imo

I actually liked most of their music, All Rise, Fly By and One Love being particular highlights

The song title has conjured up images of Brian Harvey's of the same name from 2007!

Brian Harvey gave his worst ever vocal performance of that track. Absolutely embarrassing - imagine if the UK had sent that to Eurovision. Vocally, right down there with Jemini. The song should've been called "I Can't" instead. :kink:

I have to admit, I was scared this was going to represent us in Helsinki that year. I don't even think Ireland or Malta would have been stupid to vote for him! He'd have made the woman out of Dervish sound like Maria Callas......yet again Albania gave 5 to her raping of a celtic song, so maybe Brian would have got 6 or 7...............

I'm shocked :o They were pretty big here in Portugal and most of Europe back in the day.

If You Come Back, Fly By II and One Love made me LOVE them  But they went off with crappy singles.

Best solo Blue was definitely Simon Webbe, I loved "After All This Time"

That was decent too, I bought that one on single.

Interestingly, the week his first single Lay Your Hands debuted at #4 in the UK was the same week Rihanna debuted at #2 with Pon De Replay (after Simon had initially been above her in the mids). I guess we know who went on to be the bigger star  Lay Your Hands was easily my favourite of the two though, I wasn't a fan of Rihanna's first era at all.

Interesting that their former manager Daniel felt the need to speak out about their decision to represent the UK after Blue decided to return to their former record label EMI/Innocent but not their former manager

Blue Eurovision bid 'is insanity'

The decision of boyband Blue to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest has been described by their former manager as"reckless insanity".

The four piece will perform the self-written song I Can at the annual competition, which will take place in May in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It is the first-time since 1997 that the UK has opted for an established act to represent the country at the event. On that occasion Katrina and The Waves triumphed with Love Shine A Light.

But Blue's former manager Daniel Glatman described the decision to enter the group as "reckless insanity".

He said: "They will have to win. Anything less and their reputation would be in tatters. It is the equivalent of Lewis Hamilton entering a go-kart race - he will be the strong favourite but there is also the possibility he could lose. So why risk it?"

Bookies suggested the UK entry stands only a slim chance of victory. William Hill list Blue as 25/1 outsiders. Only Jedward - entering for Ireland - have worse odds at 33/1. Last year's UK entry Josh Dubovie came last after his song - masterminded by hit-maker Pete Waterman - picked up just 10 points.

Formed in 2000, Blue had a two-year hiatus before reforming in 2009. Over their decade long-career, the band has sold more than 13 million records, winning two Brit Awards in the process.

A documentary following the four members of the band - Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe - as they prepare for Eurovision is due to be filmed in the coming weeks and will be aired in April.

Announcing their Eurovision nod, James said: "We're celebrating our 10 years together in 2011, so when the BBC approached us it seemed a great way to mark the occasion and also to be part of something which is still a British institution,"

Webbe added: "I've always wanted to represent my country, so this is a truly exciting experience for Blue."
