There's no denying that Spice Girls were a worldwide phenomenon but going from 10x platinum, 5x platinum to 1x platinum in four years is laughable. The worldwide sales are equally laughable. That happens to novelty acts when the novelty wears off. Even if Geri hadn't left the group they still would have never matched the sales of their first two albums.

I much prefer what Girls Aloud have done. First album is the lowest selling and their latest album is the best selling (apart from greatest hits.) I cba googling but probably all the other groups in that list had big debuts and the sales went downhill from there.

In addition Girls Aloud still have all the original members. Can that be said about any of the other groups in that list?

Regardless of who has sold the most Girls Aloud are the "best" UK girl group IMO. I'm sure they will overtake Spice Girls and SugaBabes in the album sales chart. Knowing how bad the album sales are these days and how people don't like new girl groups GA will stay on the top of that list for a very long time (unless Spice Girls get killed in a plane crash)

firstly don't even mention something like your last bit, it is just classless.

secondly, the spice girls achieved far more than GA ever did or will, your opinion means nowt.

Surely En Vogue would be on that list at least above Cleopatra?
Nope. Girls Aloud has sold an average of 0.62m per album (6 total), while Sugababes only 0.52m (8 total).

Yeah and they are ahead on singles averages too (just comparing these two).

Girls Aloud: 0.18 per single

Sugababes: 0.14 per single

For me the Spice Girls were a phenomenon that will never ever ever be matched. Their entire presence defined much of the 90s. However, GA are my favourites.

I think the fair way to compare sales is to do an average of their sales by album and singles. Otherwise, the act who releases more album will end up at number 1, even if all of them have really mediocre sales.

Just done the main acts but this is average per single/abum.

01. Spice Girls - 2.51m per album

It should probably be noted that Girls Aloud, Sugababes and Destiny's Child all released a number of singles during a time when single sales were at all time lows before the introduction of downloads and so a number of their bigger hits will have suffered anyway. That said, the comparison is still pretty fair.

Spice Girls achievement is much more impressive because of how $h!t the music was.

I'm so glad Eteral are so high up the singles and albums listings. I really loved them. And with in-fighting in the group some of their singles were cancelled which wouldn't have helped their totals.

Its a pity that they never get any media recognition of their achievements anymore. And I never hear them on the radio or mention anywhere anymore

I have never liked Spice Girls, maybe a song or two, but other than that they're horrible.

Sugababes are the best of them all, just brilliant, i love their music, I loved them very much but last two albums and especially the last one are far from what they used to be, they're really bad nowdays :(

Never liked GA, but their last two albums I liked and I also started listning to some of their older songs, they're ok, i have a few songs that I like a lot. I'm almost they're fan now.

I know, it's a shame :( Do you know what their cancelled singles were supposed to be?

Absolutely. In the case of Girls Aloud for example, a big hit like Love Machine only selling 180,000 just brings down their average horribly. The mid 00s, blah!

considering Push The Button was in 2005 it sold loads.
Sugababes have done so well and same as for GA

I don't think we'll ever see the sort of phenomenon that the Spice Girls created again - they were very unique for their time - but represented young women all around the UK. They seemed more real then other girlgroups before them.

I guess the problem with the Spice Girls was that because they got so big so quickly, the public ended up getting sick of them - and they got sick with eachother.

I think whats interesting with Girls Aloud is that they really could have split after their Greatest Hits and they would have still been known as a big girlgroup, but what they have achieved since is nothing short of amazing. I think there is a proper love for them now - but not a crazy love for them that the Spice Girls got - which is the dangerous one.

It will be interesting wen/if Girls Aloud do get back together - I hope they do, for me they did have a sound that represented the noughties.

Sugababes have had an amazing run, but it does hurt to feel that they are now flogging a dead horse. 5 years ago, if I told myself that they would have a 4th line-up and the sales of Sweet 7 would struggle to reach 30,000 - I would have laughed. Interestingly, I really like the singles realeased from Sweet 7 and I thought they would be catchy enough to sell the album - but I just don't think the public care about them anymore - and that's going to be hard to turnaround

actually they have had 3 studio albums, 1 GH and a remix album. but yes...the big sellers were the first 2 studio albums for sure :)

lol I forgot about the comeback album. Must have flopped too much for my radar!

they only had a comeback greatest hits and it sold around 300k if i'm not mistaken.

This is what All Saints released:

Albums

1997: All Saints

2000: Saints & Sinners

2006: Studio 1

Compilations

1998: The Remix Album

2001: All Hits
