For anyone who was wondering how new Sky 1 series 'Must Be the Music' would effect the chart, Missing Andy, one of the groups taking part (and an artist I've supported on my radio show), are up to #187 on iTunes. I don't want to think how the show will effect the charts once the 15 finalists are revealed, and all of them will have a single similtaniously released.

puzzled me how people say they dont deserve number 1 but eminem does thats been out to download for weeks and aint got number 1 so if it deserved it that much would of got it by now glad that roll are number 1 atleast a good song might be getting number 1 this week
^ Brooke, love the way you lie has sold a hell of a lot more then a lot of #1s this year, so really a label of #1 or sales of over half a million (which love the way you lie will inevitably reach and probably go on to sell even more), i know which i'd rather have.

But wouldn't you rather have both? :kink:

I can see Love the Way You Lie being this year's In For the Kill, as in it's the song that people will look back on in a few years, and be like "That wasn't number-one?!?"

There's no shame in having high sales and peaking at #2, people will still remember the song on merit alone. Two of my three favourite songs of all time fall into this category;

N-Trance - Set You Free

Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone

I'd like to think they're both better remembered than respective conquerors Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex and If I Let You Go by Westlife/Mi Chico Latno by Geri Halliwell. Let's just say the two that peaked at #2 are staples of the iTunes top 1000 and the other three, are, well, better best forgotten

Wham!'s Last Christmas is probably the ultimate example of a #2 with massive sales remembered as a #1, mainly because it's the highest selling #2 :kink:

Although actually it would probably be Oasis' Wonderwall - kept from the top by Robson & Jerome - "I Believe". Has anyone even heard that song?

Hang on - I thought you wanted *Roll Deep* to be #1... :P

I unfortunately have- it was one of the biggest chart injustices of all time when that kept Wonderwall off the top :(

on Emanna, I think they've left it too late- with Roll Deep, Taio Cruz and Katy Perry all looking like future number 1s plus I think most people would've alrwady got it what with the album being out as well- I agree with Eric, I think it will be one of those songs that has huge sales despite never making number 1

In the top-300:

1. Green Light (Radio Edit) - Roll Deep (& 214)

11. Let You Go - Chase & Status (& 176)

18. Amazing (UK Radio Edit) - Inna (& 193)

19. Say You Don't Want It - One Night Only

44. After Dark (feat. Mystery Jets) - The Count & Sinden

54. Echoes - Klaxons

57. Higher - The Saturdays

103. Spaceship (UK Radio Edit) - Benny Benassi, Kelis, apl.de.ap & Jean-Baptiste

190. Believer (Summer of Pride Mix) [feat. Wynter Gordon] - Freemasons

cherrypicking from the album- happens all the time

How many other album tracks have gone top 60 on iTunes the day of the album's released with no airplay, so far this year? I can think of only 3. There can't be more than 10, surely.

Surely its not a good thing, people should be buying the whole album not just 1 song.

I dunno. Using Love the Way You Lie as an example again, I think a lot of people that bought the song wouldn't want to have to buy Eminem's album. And if cherry-picking didn't exist, it might not've even been released as a single.

I guess that's how things are nowadays. I heard will.i.am saying in an interview that he expects artists to just constantly release a stream of singles in the future, rather than doing albums every couple of years.

Im not sure, but theres obviously been some before, I think Blah Blah Blah didnt have a lot of airplay when it first charted

All of Cheryl's album did

Although that was more down to a mistake by iTunes

I'm sure Telephone got into the top 40 too

I'd definitely heard Blah Blah Blah on the radio before it charted, and I think it was confirmed as the 2nd single at that point, but it was amazing how it got to#3!

Other ones I remember are Airplanes, Love the Way You Lie and Ridin' Solo (all of them had 0 airplay at the time, but the first one had been huge in the US, and the other two got leaked). Also Telephone and Poker Face from last year, and Cheryl had like 4 album tracks in the top 40 at one point I think.

Taylor Swift's White Horse also charted highly on iTunes when Fearless was released due to it being a US single. It never got a proper release here though.

Also Witchcraft by Pendulum charted in the top 40 on iTunes when the album was released, which is why it seemed so strange to me at least it ended up peaking at just #29
