Based on the best-selling book by Stieg Larsson (the first book in the Millennium trilogy). Daniel Craig is confirmed as playing Mikael Blomkvist, with David Fincher [Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Social Network] as the director. Various actresses have been rumored for the part of Lisbeth Salander, with it being reported in the past week that Emma Watson is trying out for the part [edit: now confirmed as Rooney Mara]

I finished reading the book last week loved it. The original Swedish movie is VERY GOOD as well.

Just saw three of these yesterday, was tempted to buy but thought no I want to read the original books in swedish first.

I'm actually reading the third book its hard to put down I'm half way thru the book already, the last of the trilogy, the first book is excellent.

Emily Blunt will be brilliant as Lisbeth Salander

I know remakes get a lot of stick, but would this properly count as a remake? This is an Hollywood version that they are making, and the movies around at the moment (in cinemas, on DVD etc.) are the Swedish movies.

Rooney Mara has been confirmed as playing Lisbeth. She is also staring in "The Social Network", which has exactly the same director as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Filming is apparently going to begin next month, in Sweden.

Still a remake. If anyone tried to redo Pan's Labyrinth for Hollywood I'd slap them all over!

I usually like David Fincher, he does tend to put a good deal of flair and artistry into his films, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt UNTIL I see it... If it's in the same league as Scorcese's take on "Infernal Affairs" in The Departed, it'll probably be alright, certainly considerably superior to about 99 percent of remakes which are done by hacks and people who used to have talent (such as Alexandre Aja) in their more "indie" days... Fincher's excellent "Zodiac" was kind of a remake of two films which had previously been done on the subject of the Zodiac Killer....

First pictures of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth. Not liking the look as much as in the original movies, but I guess the look is as described.

The article also brings a particularly interesting bit of news for “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,”—the film’s ending has been changed from the book. It states, “the script, which captures the novel’s bleak tone (its original Swedish title was ‘Men Who Hate Women’), was written by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, who wrote ‘Schindler’s List,’ and it departs rather dramatically from the book. Blomkvist is less promiscuous, Salander is more aggressive, and, most notably, the ending—the resolution of the drama—has been completely changed. This may be sacrilege to some, but Zaillian has improved on Larsson—the script’s ending is more interesting.”
Golden Globe winner Trent Reznor is doing the score for this <3

HE DOES THE SCORE FOR EVERYTHING.

HE DOES THE SCORE FOR EVERYTHING.

erm, Quake video game in 1996, The Social Network last year, and this = the score for everything? :s

Noomi Rapace did a fantastic job of portraying Salander in the Swedish version of 'Dragon Tattoo' (she was nominated for a BAFTA this year), that I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part. I'll try to keep an open mind about the film, but I doubt it will have the same raw emotion as the original (and I doubt they'll keep the infamous scene between Salander and her legal guardian)

Those are my exact thoughts on this. I'll happily be proven wrong though.

Noomi Rapace IS Salander in my view, she was perfect for the role!

I watched the Swedish version of this last night, and it's so well done I really see no point in a remake, I suppose it doesnt appeal to mass audiences (the amount of people who wont watch a subtitled film is horrifying) but it's near enough a flawless film, and it's not like it doesnt look the part either, so doesnt really need Hollywood. BUT I love David Fincher, and everything about this remake seems to be good, but in the end were just going to have two versions of the same film, in probaly not too different styles.

but anything that has Trent Reznor scoring it has to be good. i'll definitaly see it, and probaly think it's brilliant, but it's still unessacary.

and also no way can Rooney Mara pull of Salander, or at least no where near as good as Noomi Rapace is.

Really looking forward to this. I saw the ORIGINAL a few months ago and enjoyed it very much. I am looking forward to the English remake. With Daniel Craig's name attached to this, it's bound to attract movie lovers. But of course the huge success of the books and swedish films will also attract people to it as well.

thats a right bargain, are Asda always that good priced when it comes to blu ray? might have to make a trip to get those if they are £5 in my nearest asda.

They had a section with blurays from £5, it was about two weeks ago though, I had picked up the dvds at first (always buy normal dvds so i can watch them upstairs etc), but they were £7 each  Asda are usually pretty good with prices I think, I often find little bargins in there :)
