Posted August 15, 201014 yr Personally, I was furious about this release - it was obviously going to be a single, as it's the one they tend to play live in their intimate gigs along with 'Fire With Fire', 'Skin Tight' and older tracks, but I just didn't see it as the second single, y'know? More like a fourth single. 'Skin Tight' is the most commercial track left on the album, despite 'Night Work' being full to the brim swith A-Grade songs. I don't think 'Any Which Way' is going to out-peak the criminal underperformace of 'Fire With Fire' at all: it's nowhere near commercial enough. I also think the title track, 'Night Work' would work well as a single, as it's basically about going out and forgetting your troubles - shallow, but that kind of lightweight lyricism sells hugely when it's sung by some fogettable knobhead like Taio Cruz. The video is available on YouTube already, I can't post it because BuzzJack thinks I may be a computer. Joy. Could someone who's posted more than 20 comments put the link for the VEVO video up please? Danke. After seeing the video, and hearing the edit, I can see the song performing better, so maybe it could possibly out-peak 'Fire With Fire'? Your thoughts on the release of 'Any Which Way'? August 15, 201014 yr I like the track but it will flop majorly methinks. They've missed a trick with it, the Kylie duet at Glasto got so much exposure that they should have recorded a single version with her getting more lines - they need all the help they can get right now.
August 15, 201014 yr Love the song, however - the music video isn't that thrilling, I was expecting something more along the lines of 'Filthy/Gorgeous' - I guess Universal have a feeling the song is going to flop so they've put less money into their music videos this era :(
August 16, 201014 yr Author Love the song, however - the music video isn't that thrilling, I was expecting something more along the lines of 'Filthy/Gorgeous' - I guess Universal have a feeling the song is going to flop so they've put less money into their music videos this era :( You see, I think it's the video that's going to buoy this single. The track itself works brilliantly on the album but as a single I just don't see it. But I do agree in that Universal must think this album has far less commercial songs on it, resulting in them making the Scissor Sisters add a more commercial track ('Fire With Fire') toward the end of the writing process.
August 16, 201014 yr Skin Tight was far too similar to FWF to EVER be a second single, although I have no doubt we'll probably see it as third single. This was the fairly obvious choice for second single (although I wouldn't have objected to a curve-ball with Invisible Light...) although it's probably going to struggle to go top thirty.
August 16, 201014 yr Author 'Invisible Light' is the best thing they've ever recorded, but surely even 'Any Which Way' is more commercial? The title track would've made as good second single as well as 'Skin Tight', which I don't see as similar to 'Fire With Fire' at all :/
August 17, 201014 yr Night Work should've been the best choice. That said, the video is very good imo. What do you think, could this be playlisted at Radio 1?
August 27, 201014 yr this is really good, much better than FWF. The intro reminds me of Beyonce 'Ring Thed Alarm'.
August 27, 201014 yr FWF was a bit disappointing. Everything in this next single is better. I hope this do decently on its release (the album version is almost 5 minutes long).
August 30, 201014 yr Author The edit is actually a really good one, and the video is awesome too. It's great to have the Scissor Sisters back at their innuendo-charged best.
August 30, 201014 yr This is a fave of mine from the album. Can't see it doing much chart wise though, though nothing I like does these days so I don't really mind.
August 30, 201014 yr Skin Tight and Fire With Fire are the only two $h!tty songs on the album. So there.
September 3, 201014 yr Love this song. :D Its been confirmed that the Scissor Sisters are opening for Lady GaGa on her North Amercan leg of The Monster Ball starting in February. :)
