Posted August 16, 201014 yr On Bank Holiday Monday, (30th August), BBC Radio 2 will be counting down the UK's Top 100 Million Selling Singles. Based on Sales from November 1952 to W/E 7th August 2010. (The OCC have compiled the Chart, for the BBC). The Sales include Downloads, & this has enabled several old Hits to pass the Million mark. For example 'Sugar Sugar', by The Archies, & 'Dancing Queen', by ABBA. In November 2002 - when the UK's All Time Top 100 Singles were first revealed - 'only' the Top 76 were Million Sellers. Now the entire Top 100 have sold a Million. The Radio 2 Top 100 will be revealed between 10am & 5pm. LINK:, http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/...html#mon_radio2 The BBC Link says that 1 Song is in the Top 100 three times. I guess it is 'Unchained Melody'. The Righteous Brothers version must have reached a Million Sales, due to Downloads. With the Robson & Jerome, (1995), & Gareth Gates, (2002), versions being much higher in the Top 100. The BBC 'blurb' says:, "Across the day all will be revealed: which song features not just twice, but three times; which song has rung up the greatest number of entries; and whether the Gibb brothers feature in the chart as Radio 2 celebrates its Bee Gees Bank Holiday". @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I'm a bit confused - wouldn't the Song that is in the Top 100 three times, & the Song that has the most entries, be the same Song? The BBC 'blurb' makes it sound like 2 different Stats. As far as I know, the Bee Gees have no UK Million Selling Singles - even with Downloads being added in. EXCEPT for 'Tragedy', by Steps, which was a cover of the Bee Gees self-written 1979 No.1. The Steps Single was released in 1998, and went to No.1 in 1999 - eventually selling a UK MIllion. It was a Double 'A' Side with 'Heartbeat'. ================================ Top 10 remains unchanged, special mention for climbing the "chart" should go to Eye of the Tiger, Angels Three Lions (although they must have included sales of 1998 version) 1 (=) Something About the Way You Look Tonight / Candle in the Wind 1997 - Elton John (1997) 2 (=) Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid 20 (1984) 3 (=) Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (1975/1991) 4 (=) Mull of Kintyre / Girls' School - Wings (1977) 5 (=) Rivers of Babylon / Brown Girl in the Ring - Boney M (1978) 6 (=) You're the One That I Want - John Travolta / Olivia Newton-John (1978) 7 (=) Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood (1984) 8 (=) She Loves You - The Beatles (1963) 9 (=) Unchained Melody / White Cliffs of Dover - Robson & Jerome (1995) 10 (=) Mary's Boy Child ~ Oh My Lord - Boney M (1978) 11 (+1) Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around (1994) 12 (+1) I Just Called to Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder (1984) 13 (-2) Anything Is Possible / Evergreen -Will Young (2002) 14 (+1) Barbie Girl - Aqua (1997) 15 (-1) I Want to Hold Your Hand - The Beatles (1963) 16 (=) Believe - Cher (1998) 17 (+1) (Everything I Do) I Do It for You - Bryan Adams (1991) 18 (+8) Last Christmas / Everything She Wants - Wham! August 16, 201014 yr But the list will be missing at least 1 million seller - IGF was confirmed to be the 100th million seller and Sex On Fire has definitely passed the mill since then.
August 16, 201014 yr But the list will be missing at least 1 million seller - IGF was confirmed to be the 100th million seller and Sex On Fire has definitely passed the mill since then. True but it's billed as the Top 100 Million Sellers not All The Million Sellers
August 16, 201014 yr Plus between now and w/e 7th August maybe 'Bleeding Love' and 'Poker Face' will have sold enough to become million sellers - I'm aware that both tracks are currently not far off this benchmark.
August 17, 201014 yr Any ideas who's hosting the show? Is Mark Goodier still a presenter on Radio 2? Ken Bruce and Tony Blackburn. Mark Goodier is on Smooth.
August 19, 201014 yr Author Did I Love You Love Me Love pass a million then? Yes it did. In the November 2002, 'All Time Top 100 UK Singles' Chart, it was at No.56 - 1,140,000 Sales. It is estimated that it is now in about 60th place. Whether Radio 2 will play it on Bank Holiday Monday, (30th August), is another matter.
August 19, 201014 yr So what are the 24/25/26 new million sellers since 2002 then? Amarillo Mysterious Girl Band Aid 20 Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah Shayne Warde - That's My Goal BEPs - I Gotta Feeling Sex on fire Wonderwall? Torn? Angels? Back for good? Anyone care to fill in the gaps for me? I hope Save Your Kisses For Me isn't now number 101 :( I seem to recall it being the lowest selling of the million sellers back in 2002 Edited August 19, 201014 yr by Peter30

There used to be a list here of every song that's sold over 800k in the UK, does anyone still have it? It would be easier to see from that, which was closest to the million and most likely to have past it now. I'm pretty sure I read Dancing Queen and Don't Cry For Me Argentina were two that have gone past the million mark since downloads were counted. I reckon Save Your Kisses For Me will be #100. Last time they updated the million sellers list (there were 82: http://retrocharts.com/bestsellingsingles.html) it was above three songs but New Monday and White Christmas definitely will have overtaken it. I reckon Eye Level *should* just miss out.
August 19, 201014 yr Just realised they probably wont play all of the songs and it will be mainly chat :(
August 19, 201014 yr I heard "Eye of the tiger" has joined the team as well. Edited August 19, 201014 yr by N-S

August 19, 201014 yr Author Both ABBA's 'Dancing Queen', & The Archies 'Sugar Sugar', have now reached a UK Million Sale - with Downloads added in. The Archies Hit came out in 1969, but only reached a UK Million Sale earlier this Year. There may actually be 102 to 105 UK Million Sellers by now - so, obviously we will only learn about the ones that make up the Top 100. Edited August 19, 201014 yr by zeus555
