He's not actually in the lead though.

Katy's not got a big lead though- and she seems to be slowing down with the first version, this isnt over yet

Olly may climb a bit, he forgot to do his flies up at his HMV signing yesterday and that picture will be in alot of the papers tomorrow.

Yes he is...

I acknowledged Katy's ahead combined (but not by a huge amount). Olly is #1, Katy is #2. Olly has a lead.

I think Olly will start falling maybe since tomorrow or Thursday. The gap between #1 and #2 will be close anyway and the whole sales for the top-3 singles will be excellent.
I hope The Saturdays can climb, it's all really close up there! 8-16, anything can happen. Ke$Ha can break 8 if she has a bit of promotion.

It's the combined popularity that matters.

Katy might be at #2, #15 and #1** but they are all versions of one song. Katy's song is in the lead. None of Katy's versions are.

Well, I'll be pedantic. :kink:

Yes, the combined popularity that matters. Combined with other d/l sites and PHYSICALS. They might be a deciding factor in our chart battle. Forgive me this phrase, you know this anyway, I just wanted to be picky for a bit.

But I agree with you that it's a bit weird to talk about Olly like he has a lead when there are 3 other versions which give KP #1 combined. Yes, he is #1 in the iTunes chart but I can't say that he has a lead because when we talk about popularity bars we usually measure combined popularity.

Combined popularity matters *more* yes, but that doesn't mean being #1 (but not #1 combined) makes no difference at all. Olly will likely be getting a fair few sales from being #1 that he wouldn't have got otherwise from people going to the iTunes front page, having a brief look at the #1, not recognising it, listening to the preview, liking it and hitting download. As long as KP's highest version doesn't get #1 the sales Olly gets from this method will continue to make it harder for KP to get #1.

This is why #1s tend to fall a bit faster after they've been knocked off #1

You're right but IIRC, Bray was just referring to iTunes thus I was too. :P

And I forgive you anyway since you ultimately agree with me.

*A lot more*, I'd say. :P You are right though, for some stupid reason people do notice a song more if it's cover art is displayed. Crazy but true.

It doesn't stop Katy from being in the lead though.

This is a thought but I am not sure this is anything more than it... Do we have any kind of proof no1s fall down faster after being knocked down because of it? After all they were knocked down which means they have already started falling (faster than they were when they were leading obviously). And again there are so many factors speeding songs up and down I do not believe pop bars are detailed or flexible enough to show any kind of such weak effects so that we can even test this theory even if we could (and we can't) isolate the very effect (if any).

Or your suggestion follows the rule: every little piece of extra advertisement contributes to few extra sales? (?)

It doesn't stop Katy from being in the lead though.

I'm not denying that  I was referring to Olly's lead over Katy's highest version

47. Right Above It (Explicit) - Drake & Lil Wayne

:o Wow, this is pretty high. I wonder why iTunes have credited it wrong though... it's a Lil Wayne song featuring Drake.

Also,

93. Erase Me (feat. Kanye West) - Kid Cudi
