I was just thinking about songs that were released years ago, but took few years/or sometimes even longer to become hits in the UK.

The only example I have is Journey - Don't Stop Believin'. Originally released in 1981, managed to peak at #62 in March 1982. However, it took almost 28 years to get to #6.

Any other suggestions?

Mint Royale - Singin' In The Rain?

Reached low top 20 in 2005 and then got to #1 hree years later due to Cowell

There's some songs that sort of recur over the years. Like Total Eclipse of the Heart has gone top 10 in 4 decades, if I recall correctly! :o

The Ordinary Boys - Boys Will Be Boys

#16 in 2005, #3 the following year after Preston appeared on Big Brother

The Corrs - Runaway, debut single from the Forgiven Not Forgotten album in 1995, it flopped a few times but eventually smashed on the 4th release (?) in 1999 after being remixed by Tin Tin Out. It went to #2 because they decided to release it the same week as Britney released ...Baby One More Time :/
Sonique It Feels So Good first released in 1998 but didn't really have much success until it's re-release in 2000
Waterboys - The Whole Of The Moon was a minor hit in 1985 but in 1991 reached n.3

Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real

Took 32 years (78 - 10) to become a hit. Mind, it only peaked at #70, but still technically a hit, right?

'Stand By Me' by Ben E King

Original release:

24/06/1961 Ben E King Stand By Me 27 50-48R(2)-36-35-33-{27}-48->7

Re-release 26 years later:

14/02/1987 Ben E King Stand By Me {1987} 1 19-{1}-1-1-2-6-14-23-37-58-73->11

'When A Man Loves A Woman' by Percy Sledge

Original Release:

14/05/1966 Percy Sledge When A Man Loves A Woman 4 49-34-15-9-7-5-{4}-7-9-13-19-26-30-25-36-41-49->17

Re-release 21 years later:

14/02/1987 Percy Sledge When A Man Loves A Woman {1987} 2 28-5-{2}-2-6-9-19-29-40-57->10

In the w/e 28th February 1987, these two songs occupied the UK #1 and #2 for a fortnight. Iirc, both tracks were being used in successful TV advertising campaigns?

True, and technically FABULOUS :wub:

I was going to give Bluebells - Young At Heart as an example, but I didn't realise it was actually a hit in 1984 as well as 1993 :o I did know it was originally recorded by Bananarama though.

In which case, what about Nightcrawlers - Push THe Feeling On? The original from 1992 is some kind of Brand New Heavies esque abomination (not that I can find it anywhere) and the MK Dub Of Doom missed the top 20 in 1994, but then it went to #3 in 1995 :dance:
