After a fair few listens 'Cheers' has really grown on me now. I've had it stuck in my head all day today... :heart:

I don't use this word often but this album is EPIC, playing it LOUD on my CD player now! :wub:

A big improvement on 'Rated R', which had one 10 (Hard), and some songs lower than 6.

'Raining Men' is really growing on me, so addictive. :wub: I adore Nicki's rap in it too.

'Raining Men' is definitely the song Beyonce tried to make! It's excellent.

 

Anyway, my updated rate:

 

08.0 'S&M' (Starting to get bored of it. Hope it's not the single after WMN :()

10.0 'What's My Name?' (The biggest grower. It just grows and grows)

09.0 'Cheers (Drink To That)'

10.0 'Fading' (Still as stunning as the first time I heard it :wub:)

08.5 'Only Girl (In The World)' (So this may be re-growing!)

10.0 'California King (Bed)' (Contending for my favourite ever Rihanna track!)

07.0 'Man Down' (Although it's alright, it's the only song on the album I skip)

09.0 'Raining Men' (Grower!)

10.0 'Complicated' (I get a weird feeling, this could (or should, at least) be a single)

08.0 'Skin' (On memory, it's forgettable, but when it's on I Love It!)

10.0 'Love The Way You Lie (Part II)' (Full of pure and raw emotion!)

 

Album of the year? Definitely a contender. Her best album yet? YES! I realise it maybe too early to say that, but I'm astounded at how she manages to improve with each album, and every one has been better than the last.

my rate:

 

10: S&M - great opener to the album, the lyrics in the chorus made me laugh quite a bit. :lol: it does sound like 'sexy bitch' a lot but that doesn't stop it from being amaze.

08: What's My Name? - overrated. drake is no improvement either. it's listenable, but nothing more really.

10: Cheers - favourite on the album, matter of fact favourite rihanna song. the fact that it samples lavigne is enough to make it :heart: enough.

10: Fading - really stunning ballad. love the 'go on, be gone, ta ta, song long' and 'it's too late, it's too late' parts especially. :wub:

10: Only Girl - before I heard the album I thought this was going to be my favourite, but it's quite far from, and that's saying something as I still think this is brilliant. :P

10: California King Bed - another 10, this song reminds me of 'fire bomb' quite a bit. love how it starts off acoustic and then the electric guitars kick in. :wub:

09: Man Down - reminds me a little bit of robyn - 'dancehall queen'. I like it.

07: Raining Men - least favourite on the album. I've listened a few times to the album now and I can't really remember what this one goes like. nicki is awful also.

10: Complicated - loved it from the moment it leaked, maybe my favourite rihanna ballad behind 'russian roulette'.

08: Skin - quite forgettable, but I still like it.

08: Love the Way You Lie (Part 2) - well I don't like the original, but I like this as it's more rihanna-centered. doesn't make it amazing though.

 

I really wasn't expecting to love the album as much as I do, possible shock album of the year for me. my favourite is 'cheers', then followed by 'complicated' and 'california king bed'. the three Cs on the album. :P

I love how she changes her look every era <3 I think it's good and kind of useful that people will associate appearance with an album!

Rihanna’s fifth Def Jam/IDJ album, Loud, will debut with between 180-190k, followed by Rascal Flatts’ Big Machine debut, Nothing Like This, is earmarked for between 170-180k, the same projected total for Capitol Nashville/EMI country star Keith Urban’s Get Closer and Reprise crooner Josh Groban’s Rick Rubin-produced Illuminations.

 

:cry: when will she ever debut with over 200k sales in the US! I hope the album will have longevity in the charts!

GOOD GOD Doug your rate is absolute madness. 8/10 equates to a song being 'listenable but nothing more' does it?! No wonder you gave five thousand tens.

California King Bed and S&M are my current faves.

 

What's My Name isn't all that, shame it got the #1 instead of Only Girl in the US.

More polarised that Rated R, which was pretty much 8 and above for the whole thing but had only two 10s - Hard and Rude Boy. I'm not sure whether this or Rated R is her best album in my eyes...

Is Only Girl (In The World) a good representation of this album? I love that song and have gotten quite into Rihanna.

Ish. 'S&M' is the only song properly like it though. Doesn't mean it's a bad album though!

Yeah Only Girl is one of only two big DANCE numbers really. For me though the fewer the better - the rest of the album is more of a GGGB/Rated R hybrid.
