Great!

Feel free to let us know what your favorite series and movies are. ^_^

After three weeks of Summer 2024 filled with romance, another romance, more romance, and My Deer Friend Nokotan, here are some series that might interest you:

Oshi no Ko Season 2: The sequel of the 2023 series displaying the dark side of Japanese entertainment, which its 90-minute Episode 1 last year became the peak of drama anime (please watch that, at least). Season 2 adapts the 2.5D Arc, my favorite arc of the manga. Why? Akane supremacy. Doga Kobo slays their visuals once again despite animating two anime this summer.

The Elusive Samurai: Historical anime about Japanese samurai in around 1300s with a kid from the Hōjō clan (unrelated to Odawara Hōjō i.e. Ujiyasu, Ujimasa, Kotaro Fuma, etc.). After three episodes, some weebs questioned the series for combining tragedy and comedy at the same time. Lovely visuals and from CloverWorks and the story is rather good, nevertheless.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!: Really? RomCom? With this kind of artstyle? Just imagine Your Name, Suzume, Weathering with You, but it's actually a harem romcom (since we got a boy and three ladies as main characters). Ridiculous, isn't it? A-1 Pictures takes responsibility of its animation, which is also the same studio that worked Kaguya-sama, 86, Your Lie in April, and Porter Robinson & Madeon's Shelter. Speaking of Kimi no Nawa, Makoto Shinkai actually praised the production of this anime so far. :o

Unlike last season, I think only those three that are rather Buzzjack-esque. Besides them, My Deer Friend Nokotan, Pseudo Harem, and Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian would be my top tier recommendations.

If you're not enough with a deer anime, here's an anime about a rooster:

It will be animated by Studio SANZIGEN, which also made anime like BanG Dream, New Initial D Movie, and D4DJ.

Oshi no Ko S2 finally ends today and GOD. AN ABSOLUTE CINEMA. What more surpising is that S3 is already in productions!

Also giving Re:ZERO a watch for 3 episodes, and I ended up doing a marathon in just two days. It's definitely worth to be part of Big 3 Isekai and I'll definitely catching up for the latest season!

One Piece announces hiatus from October 13th 2024 to April 2025. As a change, they will re-broadcast the Fish-Man Island Saga Arc with new visuals and new ending theme by BE:FIRST.

Going back to 'zero' weekly non-seasonal anime for a while...

  • 1 month later...

Definitely not watching as much anime now as I used to, just two series that I'm watching weekly this cour, the absolutely bonkers Dandadan, and rather nostalgically given that the original series was the first one I watched in full when I originally got into anime, the remake of Ranma 1/2.

And yes, I am hoping that Luce gets an anime series in 2025...

Me too, I'm slowly marathoning onwards with some longer shows (One Piece, MHA, JJK) but not actively watching any seasonals, safe in the knowledge I can pick and choose which shows to get to whenever I like. I've heard enough about Dandadan to give it a go at some point though.

I do love Luce though, a very astute choice of mascot by the Catholic Church. There's gotta be a mangaka out there who's seen enough of the Catholic archetypes that occasionally permeate anime whenever there's a Christian character of some description to put something together...

I'm just picking up sequels rn, even Dandadan I'd rather make it marathon by the end of the season instead of weekly watching. But I'm also watching some early '10s anime like No Game No Life, Classroom of The Elite, One Punch Man, and Black Clover. I also made a little bit progress now in watching original Bleach, reaching E25 now lol.

Wish I could watch Orb, but I never use Netflix.

1908 Novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery gets another anime adaptation in 2025. The first adaptation was made back in 1979.

Anime might see their first dark age soon as an original series titled "Twins Hinahima", released in Spring 2025, uses AI to aid its production.

If it takes over the production of slop fantasy series where a dull Japanese salaryman finds himself reincarnated into Dragon Quest and his specific industry knowledge happens to be exactly what he needs to defeat the Demon king and make numerous young-looking elf girls fawn over him, I won't mourn their loss. Nor if it takes over the production of romcoms where a generic-looking male high schooler has three to four manic pixie dream teenage girls bounce into his life and start giving his life meaning until the series concludes the nanosecond before he decides which one he's going to actually date. The audience for those kinds of thing are sadly exactly the sorts of people who won't mind whichever one of those they're watching from season to season being created by AI, because they're all about the same as each other anyway.

So it could absolutely recreate anime slop. But even that wouldn't be good. The character designs in that video just look creepy.

Of course if it gets beyond that it would be bad. Won't really matter what audiences in the west think, but hopefully the Japanese audiences, who can at times be mobilised effectively against bad corporate practices, will see the dangers of this getting in the way of art. Would only need a few popular mangakas to speak on it and I imagine they will.

Or, well actually, seems voice actors have already spoken on it. That's big, popular voice actors are huge in the Japanese entertainment scene:

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2024-...tive-ai/.216796

In the 20-second video, Nakao said that he was surprised that his voice was being sold without his permission, and added that his voice is his livelihood and his life.

That'll be what takes this down eventually. Mangakas and other artists will demand protection over their art, voice actors will demand protection for their voice and I'd be willing to bet Japan draws up legislation for it, they're probably the most likely first-world country to do so.

Have lots of series I want to watch, including Dandandan - going to binge a couple over the Xmas period I think!

I did manage to watch Season 1 & 2 of The Eminence in Shadow over the summer which was great. Also watched Kaijuu 8-gou which I loved and am looking forward to season 2!

I recently watched the anime & read the manga Mashle. It's basically animated Harry Potter but if Harry had no magic and used muscles instead. It's ridiculous but more entertaining than I thought it would be (enough to make me read the manga to see how it ends).

Also want to start re-watching bleach at some point so I can finish the re-watch at the same time that the 4th & final batch of epsiodes for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War releases so I can binge it right after. I assume it'll be released summer/autumn 2025.

Just finishing Sengoku Youko last night (while also leaving other seasonal anime unwatched) and I gotta say I'm glad I didn't overlook this. One of the most underrated historical-mythology shounen anime out there. Special shout out to White Fox studio (who also worked really hard for the new Re:ZERO season) for their amazing visuals on the last couple of episodes! Hopefully, one of our local book publishers are able to buy its manga license so that they could sell the Indonesian translations of them.

And of course Evan Call is cooking again with the soundtracks B-)

After stacking up some Winter 2025 series, I'm intrigued to watch some sequels here:

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Love You, peak romcom anime, is finally back! Apparently, 6 more girlfriends will be introduced this season. I'm looking forward to seeing the 'legendary panel' scene.

The Apothecary Diaries returns as well, but I haven't finished watching Season 1. Maomao and Jinshi are both so cute.

Will continue Solo Leveling as well though I consider the first season overrated.

Unnamed Memory...I will expect less with ENGI x Kadokawa still animating it.

Haven't started watching Dr. Stone and continued Blue Exorcist yet, so I'm probably scrapping them for now.

Some new series I'm looking forward to would be Sakamoto Days (a new popular shounen series about a retired gunman), Ameku Takao/Doctor Detective (but they're already getting a 2-week delay wtf), and Medalist (ENGI x Kadokawa again...).

And yes, I haven't continued DANDADAN!

I started Dandadan today and wow, it is absolutely incredible and the most an anime has instantly grabbed me in ages.

Orb: The Movement of Earth is certainly a must-watch for those who are interested in the history of heliocentrism and its figure like Copernicus, Kepler, and Galilei, but yeah, I understand why the anime is pretty overlooked compared to the easy-understanding anime like Dandadan. I can't tease you anything because the first episode itself already contained major spoilers.

Season 2 of Solo Leveling is fantastic, especially for me who considered its prequel extremely overrated. Episode 6 is surely one of the Best Animation of 2025 contenders.

100 Girlfriends remains GOATed as well. This weekend we might be getting the adaptation of the most disastrous manga panel, ever.

Re:ZERO is finally back too! First episode of the 2nd cour already had me stressed. I feel sorry to Subaru for not being OP at all as an Isekai person. Pretty intrigued with the Counterattack Arc as I'm not a light-novel reader.

My pick for the most underrated anime this season probably goes to the Reincarnated Villainess Ojisan. It's a semi-parody isekai series about a middle-aged man being 'reincarnated' as a villainess in an otome game.

While watching 15+ different anime this season, I also continued my Bleach marathon (for the sake of joining the series finale hype train) and watched popular anime like My Dress-Up Darling, Classroom of the Elite before their new season come out.
