While I don't agree with Shelli's proposal for culling all kids after the 4th she is spot on that it is an overcrowded island

We have 58m people living here and are a tiny island, our roads are exceptionally overcrowded, our green belt is being eroded to build new houses, our hospitals and schools are overcrowded etc

The reason for that is immigrants so rather than cull babies I would rather stop all inbound immigration bar a select few who can make a major contribution to the country

Well the Royal Family has loads of land at their disposal which was given to them by an accident of birth ... if we run out of space to build on ... we should use that!

Far better to cull the royal family and keep the land as it is :)

I am a fields person, love green belt and open fields and national parks so it is annoying to see it all being eroded for houses and shopping malls

I think there should be a ban in the UK of parents having more than 4 children. The country is already over populated.

Let's get started than, after 4 you can have a hysteromy :P

And how many immigrants have we had come in since 2004 who are still here, Craig?

I don't have the figures to hand and since am on the iPad it is too much of a task to research tonight but the population has exploded massively in the last decade and I very much doubt that is due to solely indigenous population expansion

E Mikey Im not even having 4! Thats too many. I dont like kids much. They scream and $h!t themseleves. Im too selfish

That would be impossible to say though Tirren as some genius decided to scrap the controls/checks leaving the country so we have no idea how many people are here in this country from the EU or how many people have overstayed 'student' visas and are here illegally.

I still can not understand the logic in scrapping exit controls. It's retarded.

OMG why are the controls stopped? Thats silly!

2001 Census: 58,789,194

Population in 2010: 62,041,708

An increase of 3 million or about 5%, hardly a 'massive explosion' - one on a par with most other EU countries.

Yes, we should kill off our economy and make people homeless solely so that you personally don't find it "annoying". If you fly low over Britain, you'd see plenty of unused land - the idea that we're overcrowded simply isn't true.

You realise limiting immigration to "a few" would mean withdrawing from the EU, which would be economic suicide?

Oh Jesus is Craig STILL on about culling people?

In fairness, his views are only the second most terrifying in this thread.

We are still a tiny island though with a crumbling infrastructure, in a decade we will probably be around the 70m mark, scary

If you're so concerned about the crumbling infrastructure, why are you supporting big spending cuts?

I am in favour of a withdrawal from the EU in all areas except free trade, we should be building up long term relationships with China, Russia, India etc as that is where the serious money is going to be in the next 20 years, the only countries we really need strong trading ties with are Germany, France and Spain and I doubt pulling out of the EU would lead to the cancellation of a single order from companies in those countries, the idea that if we quit the EU the rest of Europe will stop trading with us is a myth, like telling kids the bogeyman is going to eat them

Correct. The distribution of population is very uneven so parts of the south east of England and, of course, London have a very high population density but in most of the rest of the UK it's pretty low.

Where does that figure come from? Every single alarmist projection of the population in the past has been way off the mark.

I am more in favour of reducing the current population by halting all immigration bar professionals who are urgently needed to fill certain professions

As people die then the population will gradually come down or at worst stay still

If we leave the EU we will still have to trade with the remaining members on their terms. We will still have to abide by their rules but will have no say in what those rules are.

FYI, unskilled workers from outside the EU aren't actually allowed to immigrate here anymore (unless they're seeking asylum).
