Yeah, this is reminding me of those fiasco iTunes threads from back in June...

I personally love Start Without You, but I do wish Teenage Dream had beaten it this week. I was hoping we could get more 1-weekers!

Also, interesting comparing 3 Words to Heartbeat. I love both songs, and I sort of see the similarity now that it's been pointed out.

Back last year, I always thought 3 Words sounded like When Love Takes Over (I think it was actually based on the song), and I thought When Love Takes Over sounded like Clocks by Coldplay.

So in a way, Heartbeat sounds like Clocks.

I'm loving the fact Alex looks like she could be on course for a 3rd week at number, not even I had thought the song would do that  I'm also liking the fact it seems to be annoying quite a few people too :heehee: It's going to have a Roll Deep 'Good Times' sort of chart run I think. That's not a bad thing in my book.
From one Alex to another perhaps? Alexandra Burke no. 1 tomorrow followed by Alex Gaudino next week? Plus 'I'm In Love (I Wanna Do It)' might also have additional remixes selling on iTunes so the combined sales could be enough to push the song to #1.

I've just heard Higher on the radio! :o It's the first time I heard the version with Flo Rida, and I think it sounds fine.

Although I was sort of hoping that it'd chart before airplay started.

Why the sudden '3 Words' and 'Heartbeat' compare? They're quite different, no? But if you ask me, '3W' >>>>> 'H'. :P I quite like both songs.

I've read about the PCD situation quite a lot recently and I found Nicole and manager Robin Antin as a huge b*tches to be honest, and I'm not glad that Nicole will get the hit on her so easily. But what can you do when the song is good?

I would not claim that it is a race thing when it comes to you.Are you saying that there is not even 1 rap song that you like.

The thing is, I originally stopped following music in the mid-80's when the genre was in its infancy, and I can't remember much of the few that were around then.

If I *had* to name two, then maybe Sugarhill Gang - Rappers Delight, and The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping.

Mind you, I don't think the genre had even developed its own identity back then, so some songs that might be called rap now, were just lumped into other categories.

The one thing I am sure of is, since I started following music again in late 2003, there hasn't been one I liked, though a few I can just about tolerate.

Hang on though - what about M.I.A.'s 'Paper Planes' - does that count?

No-one is hinting at you for being racist, they're (rightly) more confronting you and your bizarre ignorance on rap/urban music. This thread has shown just how ignorant and how quick you are to judge, just because of the artists skin colour and past work. Bruno Mars is the male Alicia Keys (imo) and Labrinth has got nothing to do with rap either. If you actually took off those "oh, they're black and therefore must do rap $h!t so i won't like it" glasses, and went to listen to 'Let The Sun Shine' and 'Just The Way You Are' you may be surprised and might actually like them (considering they're as far removed from rap as you can get)!

Further than, say, Katherine Jenkins? :P

I've heard the ones you mention, and I didn't like them - but it's nothing personal. Over the years I can probably could on the fingers of one hand the male ballads (R&B or otherwise) I've liked. Robbie-Angels, James Blunt-YB, and... well, there you go.

On a whole other subject - how come sometimes the popularity bars aren't ranked in the same order as the stated chart positions?

I think people are comparing them because of the loops, the piano, and they're both love songs (I think), but mainly the loops (are they called ostinatoes or something?).

I love 3 Words too. I thought it was absolutely fantastic! It was so different and really unexpected from her.

I think sometimes when songs climb or fall quickly, the pop-bars and the rank positions update at different times. It often happens on Sundays. The difficult bit is figuring out if it's the ranks that are correct, or if it's the pop-bars.

But I usually find if you wait a while it eventually arranges itself properly.

Shontelle will be out of top 10 in no time, but at least she got her top 10 hit with little support.

I'm not sure about Shontelle being out so quickly. It's the weekend effect, and there's nothing major apart from Alex Gaudino to be released next week. If she holds on in the top-10 until Monday she'll be on the rise again I guess.

Enrique up to #15, Sats 'Higher' at #27, Kylie 'GOOMW' at #50.

Depends how quickly Alex Gaudino rises on Sunday, as Shontelle will get the greatest gain from being played during the chart rundown.

This has been proven to have precisely 0.01 impact on the song's chart position.

Her midweek airing on Radio 1 helped her rise a few places on iTunes.

Because they are both sort of similar tempos & are both collaborations and both of the females are from girlbands I guess. I would go Heartbeat>>>> 3W tbh.

Anyway, Enrique should be up to #11 very soon by the looks of the pop bars and will continue to get a boost from Nicole on X Factor tonight :D. Also, I think Alex Gaurdino could get to #1 quite easily this week - with Alexandra selling about 75k last week I am guessing it will sell about 50k this week at #1 so this coming week it will probably fall to about 40k so I am guessing Alex could easily sell over 40k this coming week. I sort of see it being a 'Gettin Over You' type hit :D

Songs that aren't playlisted by Radio 1 can benefit when played on the chart show, because all the people that predominantly listen to Radio 1 won't've heard much of the song before.

It's true though, that for a song like Love the Way You Lie, it'd make no difference now.

Also, I think 3 Words sounds like Can't Get You Out of My Head.

No, it was just still rising because of the top 10 effect.

One play on Radio 1 (regardless of what show it's on) is not going to affect its chart position.

Exceptions to this rule being Baz Luhrmann's Sunscreen and (until recently) Stromae.

You'd think it works like that, but it's been demonstrated that has no effect whatsoever.
