With "Love The Way You Lie" (651,197 to-date) looking likely to overtake "Stan" (791,278 to-date) at some point this year, the question is:

  • which is the better track?
  • which track will stand the test of time better?

- or -

Stan for both - a masterpiece, and I hate him usually.

Love The Way You Lie is very good but will never have the same groundbreaking 'wow' effect of Stan.

Stan for both. Love The Way You Lie is a wonderful pop crossover track, but I don't think it'll have anywhere near as much cultural impact as Stan did.
Stan is the better song (although where's Lose Yourself, that has to be his best for me). But it depends what you mean by stand the test of time, Stan will always be better, but I think you're more likely to hear LTWYL on the radio in 10 years time.

'Stan' has already stood the test of time - 10 years on and still gets shown on VH-1 (or VH-1 Classic). 'LTWYL' could easily become Eminem's new big hit which might still be getting TV airplay in 2020.

Also agree with Tom about 'Lose Yourself' - these are easily Eminem's best three singles. I also thought 'Like Toy Soldiers' was great but 'LTWYL' has totally eclipsed that song.

People love hating, i voted 'like both equally', and 'both will be remembered', because they will. Both are great, and deserve the success they have achieved.
Bit of a stupid question really :heehee: (no offence!) Stan, hands down!!

Stan.

I do love both, and I prefer Rihanna to Dido by a country mile. But Stan is just an epic song with so much meaning and is pure brilliance, I think even people that don't like Eminem love the song.

LTWYL is probably my 2nd best of his ever though, but It's getting played so much now I'm getting a little bored..

Stan and Stan. Everyone knows that LTWYL is the twin of 'Airplanes'. Besides, IMO it just jumps on everything is 'current' in 2010. Rapping + female vocals with nice melody. And the video is quite predictable too (at least, it was for me). Nothing in it is groundbreaking. 'Stan' was the whole different story. It was a bomb in the waiting and when the single was released, the bomb exploded. And besides, the song has introduced the beautiful Dido to the public.
"Love The Way You Lie" is fantastic, easily one of the year's best tracks. The last verse did give me a shudder the first time I heard it, but mainly because it evokes the absolute shock factor of "Stan" - for me, the greatest hip-hop song ever written bar none. His rapping may be technically better on "Lose Yourself", LTWYL may have a better chorus, but "Stan" is untouchable.

I think I pretty much agree with this, particularly the last bit. 'Stan' was the first Eminem song that I actually liked, although I didn't really "love" it at the time. But I think out of the two in question, I prefer LTWYL, just. But my favourite Eminem song is 'Cleaning Out My Closet' followed by 'When I'm Gone' and 'Like Toy Soldiers'. His best stuff is EASILY his more serious sorta stuff though. Easily.

Oh and in regards as to which track I think will stand the test of time better, I put equally as i'm sure LTWYL will be remembered just as much as 'Stan''s been remembered for it's first 10 years or so.

Indeed, Stan already stood the test of time. It's still as incredible as i heard it 10 years ago. Love The Way You Lie is just made for a buzzing effect since it's two mega stars collaborating. But time will tell, maybe i'll be wrong. Although i don't think many people will remember LTWYL 10 years later.

Stan for both.
