There seems to be a huge gap between 2005 and 2010, not sure if I missed anyone else out. Everyhit.com seems they haven't updated since last year, and they way behind with the Number 1's of 2010, last entry was Scouting For Girls.
October 8, 201014 yr Give Olly and The Wanted a chance! they've only had one song  I think Owl City is by far the most obvious one here, I think he should be included you can add Daniel Powter for 2005 Edited October 8, 201014 yr by chart wizard
October 8, 201014 yr I think Owl City is by far the most obvious one here, I think he should be included That depends whether you see the Official Chart as a top 75 or top 100. Vanilla Twilight got to number 94 in February.
October 8, 201014 yr Author That depends whether you see the Official Chart as a top 75 or top 100. Vanilla Twilight got to number 94 in February. According to MW database they have had 3 singles  Fireflies, Maybe I'm Dreaming, and Umbrella Beach edit: Maybe I'm Dreaming and Umbrella Beach made the dance chart
October 8, 201014 yr DJ Casper had a #16 hit later in 2004. Do Vanessa Jenkins & Bryn West count from last year? I suppose Tom Jones and Barry Gibb were included in that. Other than that, it looks like every single #1 from December 2005 to July 2010 has had more than one hit :o Longest ever run!!
October 8, 201014 yr Oh I see you mean one hit wonders by 'a number 1 and no other top 100 single', I think Olly and The Wanted definitely will get other hits
October 8, 201014 yr Author The problem with Owl City Fireflies is the only single made the top 75 on the MW site and Vanilla Twilight made the top 100 on the OCC site. So I'm taking Owl City did have a follow up single. Thanks Bray, I forgot about Olly's B-side track.
October 8, 201014 yr Oh I see you mean one hit wonders by 'a number 1 and no other top 100 single', I think Olly and The Wanted definitely will get other hits That's the definition Guinness used to use (although it was mostly top 75) and the definition used by everyhit.com. That site doesn't get updated very much these days - they still have JLS as a one hit wonder.
October 8, 201014 yr I think it should be based on top 40. :kink: Only reason is because an artist might have a massive no. 1 hit then have some semi-flops (well what I consider songs charting between 41-75) that are never remembered. Aneke 'Japanese Boy' is definitely a one hit wonder. The follow up peaked at no. 50 but who honestly remembers it? (apart from me because I used the track 'Little Lady' to create a silly dance track a few years ago  )
October 8, 201014 yr why the hell are olly & the wanted there? Olly Murs has been removed for the reason given above. The Wanted qualify as one hit wonders at the moment although it's pretty obvious they won't be there for long.
October 9, 201014 yr I think it should be top 75. Do most people take 'one hit wonder' to mean one big hit (top 5, 10 or 20) as opposed to #1? Strictly speaking it means just a #1, right? I think most people wouldn't automatically think that, though.

I think most people wouldn't automatically think that, though. Well I usually refer to "one hit wonder" as one massive hit - even if it peaked at #2, #3 or even #4 but follow up releases all bombed outside the top 40. Another example; OMC - How Bizarre (1996)

Another example; OMC - How Bizarre (1996) The advantage of the definition as a number one and no other chart hits is that it is simple. It means you don't have to define "massive hit". After all, while Love The Way You Lie is clearly a massive hit despite not making number one, does Diana Vickers' Once - a number one but only five weeks in the top 40 - count as "massive"?
