I think they'll be fine.

locott: pls. be advised we're in a westlife thread, not in a take that, Progress thread.

Performances of 'Safe'. I really love the X-Factor one and the crowd reaction at Childline was lovely to hear. ^_^ Although I sort of wish they had performed this in more places such as Daybreak, Loose Women and on The National Lottery etc.

What do u thing guys? A different from what we know about Westlife:

  • 2 months later...

[…]"The Loife are leaving Cowell's label Syco and moving to RCA after their latest single was shelved before release.

My source revealed: "Westlife have had unprecendented success with Syco but everyone felt it was time for a change.

"The boys wanted more control so have jumped ship to another Sony label. "The Westlife lads invited me to their sell-out O2 gig on Friday along with Louis Walsh, Wonderland and Jedward. Afterwards Nicky told me: 'Beautiful Tonight should have been the second single off our album but it wasn't meant to be."

I hear fans will be treated to a greatest hits collection before Weslife start work on their 12th studio album - their first under new label.

And confirmed by Nicky on twitter:

Re Syco .. Truth is yes we have moved on from Syco records after a fantastic 13years.. But it is time for a change and it's very exciting..!

:o

I doubt they'll last very long now. No more guaranteed X Factor slots! At least they'll be able to release music in months other than November

Not surprised to hear about a new Greatest Hits, I've been expecting Vol.2 for years and am always surprised when it doesn't happen.

tbh I credit them for doing that- Syco was blatantly using them as just another money making scheme- same schedule and only maximum of two singles released (not even that this time) it just didn't allow them to be true 'artists'

I'm not sure how they'll fare now- Safe probably would've missed the top 10 without X Factor! :o

The most irrelevant pop group right here. They should just end it while they're lagging behind and struggling to catch up. :)
Looks like good news to me... hmm... I don't know... but I'm sure they deserve better. But I agree about the longevity.

I wonder if this will be a 2-CD Greatest Hits with all singles from the beginning. According to the Wikipedia discography, Westlife have had only 11 singles releases since early 2003 (the end of the Greatest Hits, Volume 1 era)! During the period from 1999-2003, there were 16 singles (I included both songs of the two double-A side singles -- I Have A Dream / Seasons In The Sun, Tonight / Miss You Nights).

So Syco could release a 2-CD set with all 27 single songs plus several album favorites and/or new songs, then put 15 or 16 songs on each CD. Or if Simon Cowell is pissed at Westlife, it could just be the 11 2003-2010 singles! In case anyone was wondering, these are the only official Westlife UK/Ireland singles from 2003 to the present:

Hey Whatever (#4, 2003)

Mandy (#1, 2003)

Obvious (#3, 2004)

You Raise Me Up (#1, 2005)

When You Tell Me That You Love Me (#2, 2005)

Amazing (#4, 2006)

The Rose (#1, 2006)

Home (#3, 2007)

Us Against The World (#8, 2008)

What About Now (#2, 2009)

Safe (#10, 2010)

Also, were Westlife really shocked that "Beautiful Tonight" wasn't the second single from Gravity? They've only had one "second single" from an album since 2006!

I don't think there will be any new material on the album it sounds like they are releasing the GH to sort of wrap up their time with SyCo and to use up the last album in their contract and then they'll be recording with John Shanks for the new album which will be released under RCA.

Presumably Hey Whatever, Mandy and Obvious are re-recorded as Brian was on those recordings. I think 'Something Right' might be on too as 'When You're Looking Like that' made their GH1 and that was a european single only too. I wouldn't be suprised if they add 'I'm Already There' on from the Back Home album too.

Good for them Syco are stir fried $h!t and hopefully Westlife will record something interesting and modern now.Now they need to tale Shayne, Joe, Alex and Leona with them.
So do we think the new GH will be out soon or will they wait until Oct./Nov. time? I bought their first GH, Unbreakable, and was disappointed that Seasons In The Sun wasn't on it!! Can't see the second one being as big tbh.

I expect they inevitably will but I can see it only serving to continue their decline with their constantly-dwindling album sales.

Am I the only one who thought Syco had the right idea re:Westlife? They're a totally irrelevant band now as someone so rightly pointed out earlier, so might as well just turn them into some more successful Daniel O'Donnell-type. There's really no market for them on the singles chart anymore. Albums chart = yes, because of their loony fanbase who think they're actually good and don't realise every Westlife album sounds the same as the last.

Paul Martin has posted this which he says are direct text messages from Shane:

we are out if contract after this g hits. And another label in Sony have offered us a much better deal for this year

After that we are free agents and can sign with any label in the world !! Alot are eager to get usGonna be an interesting year

So does that mean their one more album in their contract is with Sony so they've moved to RCA to finish that up and then they can sign with whoever they want? I'm confussed.

I love how the end of physicals has pretty much destroyed them. They only managed to do so well off What About Now off it being the perfect time for an opportunistic cover - other than that, they really didn't deserve any of those chart positions. Well, maybe Amazing.

Totally agree!
