Not included in this update as it was apparently released last week is Mitch Benn - I'm Proud Of The BBC at #64.

I've also not included Yeo Valley Rap (#53) as it was available from at least the latter end of last week.

iTunes really needs to correct the crediting of 'Second Chance' and 'Miss Me' which seem to credit Taio Cruz and Nelly respectively twice.

Also, deadmau5 looks like he could get another hit with seemingly no promotion, after 'Animal Rights' made #72 a few weeks ago.

Check it out nearly top 10 :puke: Hope ne-yo makes it instead!

Nadine struggling for top 20 ouchh, really bad song, sounds like should have been released early 21st century.

Rihanna is crushing the competition this week.I wonder if she would have had two weeks at No 1 if she has got an X-factor slot last week.Keep climbing Happiness,The Silence(137) and Higher. So shocked at Tinchy and Roll Deep I actually thought either one would be No 1.

Maybe people are bored of songs that tinchy, roll deep create, not really different or original, people were always going to get bored of them some time.

Hope Happiness & Firework overtake Promise This on iTunes by the end of the week.

Firework could really progress now with the video #1 on 4music and getting shown more on TV channels.

Lady Gaga got 4 #1s with basically the same song. I'm sure lots of other artists have done it too.

In addition to the 23 (!) new releases in the top 100 I posted just over an hour ago, there's now a 24th - a 5th Bon Jovi track from their GH, 'You Give Love A Bad Name' has just entered the top 100.

It's not entirely implausible that soon one quarter of the top 100 will be new releases, as none of them are showing any signs of leaving - the single version of White Knuckle Ride is falling, but still comfortably inside the top 100 (#76)

How does Telephone sound anything like Just Dance?

Oh please, they arent 'nearly the same song' they are completely different. :coffee:

Exactly tyron, its a pointless comment.

I really Like Stay's song.. really like it but i'm glad it's dropping as it helps Saturdays.. I predict stay will drop to around 12-13 by tommoorw.
Hope Nadine can go top 20 on Itunes she NEEDS to go top 30 at least officially!
Oh Ed :( Poor, poor Ed. Such a great song.

Where does Cheryl sing in that version? :kink:

she sings over the chorus with Will.i.am- it may seem pointless, but her vocals sound better than his- on the chorus, his sound awful :(

Totally agree, i have never heard it on the radio. Don't know about the video on music channels as i don't watch them :(

It is already the 3rd most played song on my itunes after only downloading it on Sunday, thats how good it is. Plus Ed is really rather cute, his nose is adorable.

Thats crazy. Only 2nd of November!

How does Telephone sound anything like Just Dance?

I was exaggerating a bit, but it did take me until about April 2009 to be able to distinguish between Just Dance and Poker Face.

However, Telephone and Just Dance are still very similar:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6fFMh1coCE

I guess the lyrics make them quite different, because Telephone is about a girl who is busy dancing in a club, and doesn't want to answer her phone, and Just Dance is about a girl who's drunk on the dance-floor.

I'd say the 2 least similar out of the 4 are Bad Romance and Telephone, and my favourite is Telephone, because at least it has a more interesting structure, and I love Beyonce's part, with the double-beats. The end and the beginning are good aswell, as at least we have about 10 seconds of the track without an overload of synthesizers.

And Alejandro didn't get to #1, but I've realized that it is also very similar to Bad Romance, oddly enough. They don't seem so similar originally, but when you pay attention to each of the individual layers in the songs, they mirror each other very well.

For example, one of the layers in Bad Romance has a high-pitched clicking noise at the end of every 4, 8 or 16 bars I think. It's taken from a dance song called Ballanation by DJ Dean, and provides a bit of syncopation for the track, I suppose. Compare that to Alejandro, and you have a high picthed, sort of bubbly-sounding melody that appears at the end of every 4, 8 or 18 bars too. Whilst it's not a direct sample this time, some people believe it to be influenced by Don't Turn Around by Ace of Base.

Alejandro does use a direct sample however, from a song called Csardas, in the violin part that appears in the introduction of the song (and also returns during the bridge). I don't think the harp in Telephone's introduction samples anything though.

But anyway, I await the day when Lady Gaga gets a UK #1 with something other than an electropop song in a minor key, in 4/4 and a tempo of 120 bpm.
