I hate the fact they've become so pretentious and think they can get away with music like this.

That is awful.

#1. The start of the supposed "dubstep" revolution in 2011.

It doesn't sound much like dubstep though. Plus, dubstep is mainly a UK thing. I doubt the US will catch onto it for a few years. The general US public have only just been introduced to it, thanks to La Roux (and they played the song in an episode on Entourage, and I went on youtube the next days, and all the videos for In For the Kill had liked doubled in views! :o).

But anyway, I think the song is absolutely fantastic, and I would love for it to go to #1, because it fully deserves it, but realistically, I think it'll only go top 3. Not many people seem to like it. :( But it's reception isn't much different to Boom Boom Pow's at the moment, so who knows?

Not as good as Meet Me Halfway, but let's face it, what is? :D

the bep song has really grown on me recently. though i do wish it was just the chorus all the way through, the first part's too cringey. glad it's doing well

I just listened to the new BEPs song- my God, what a mess  it sounds like 3 songs moulded into one and why does Will.i.am have to murder Video Killed The Radio Star AND Time Of my Life

hopefully this wont get anywhere near number 1

I think the simple answer is he has now creatively burned out and completely ran out of ideas, so has to recycle past material and pass it off as his own.

I doubt there's a single person in the world who'll listen to this, and not realize the sample, so I don't think will.i.am is even attempting to "pass if off as his own".

And, you do realize that the BEP's 4 previous singles all used samples too? OMG also used a sample. 3 Words almost used a sample. Lots of their older singles used samples too.

The reality is, the BEPs understand that there is nothing wrong with using a sample, and that the only thing the general public cares about is the song sounds good. In the hip hop community, using a sample isn't a big deal. Infact, it's quite normal, and I like that. In some other genres, if an artist uses a sample, they're villified, ridiculed by the other "artists" for the sample, and their fans abandon them. This just doesn't happen in hip hop.

That said, the BEPs are more electro-hop, but still.

Didn't really think it will be released this week. I still think it should get to #1 (eventually).

I dont like it either

I think they will be in top-10.

Absolutely despise this song with a passion.

#1 then!

It's mostly the same to me, 99% of these hip-hop songs or songs by 'bargain bin' UK 'hip-hop' acts that base their song around a sample smack of unoriginality to the nth degree, and they only do it to give their poor excuse of a song a hook that isn't even their own. I guess with the new BEP single musically it's good and everything else about it is fine, but the sample is tacky and would be much better without it.

it's a cover of an old song from the Dirty Dancing movie from the 80's, with a David Guetta produced sound...

this combination is not very original.

It hardly deserves top 10, but i think it will reach number 4.

The sample is ok but the rest is pretty bad. It's not horrendous but it's not exactly catchy either.

If they are on x-factor, probably No1 as they do have a big fanbase who would probably love crap like this. Without x-factor, i'd say top ten.

I listened to the 30 second clip on iTunes and was really unimpressed. All I heard was "...and i owe it all to you, you, you, you, you, you, y-y-y-y-y-y-y....dirty bit" ** bendy synths **

Having heard the whole track now, it's not as horrendous as I had been expecting. Sadly, I still think they've tried to do another 'Boom Boom Pow'. I would've had more respect had Black Eyed Peas gone away for 18 months/two years and give themselves enough time to work on a proper new album.

I assume 'The Beginning' is going to be a repackaged 'The E.N.D.S' with a second disc of new material. Clearly 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' was one of the tracks that never made 'The E.N.D.S' - now's the time where the record companies exploit the public again with more reissues. Merry Xmas!!! :kink:

 disc? :kink:

I thought that The Beginning was a brand new album? :o

Sampling is a key trait of hip hop, and it saddens me to see sampling become less and less frequent in mainstream hip hop nowadays. Back when hip hop first began, literally 99.5% of the tracks used sampling. Now it seems to be like 35%. :(

This article is a good read, to see about the declining use of sampling in today's hip hop music. http://matthewnewton.us/node/775

I love the Black Eyed Peas for having the courage to be true to the origins of one of their main genres, despite the extra money they have to pay, and despite the public backlash they'll receive each time.
