Inna top 40? Wow I maybe this song will get a release after all. I didn't even think it would be reach top 40 or a basis or any for that matter.

Me neither, but it's out next week. Considering this is being cherry-picked, a third top 20 doesn't look out of the question :o

whats going on with the flood? did greatest day fall this fast on its first week?

Nope! And as boring as The Flood is ... it is still better than Greatest Day.

I don't even think it will pick up after the promotion they have lined up. To me it sounds just like an album track, a filler ... not single material.

They won't really care with the half a million albums they will sell next week ;) . I am beginning to wonder whether 'The flood' will eventually pick up enough with XF or not. It WILL pick up though no doubt. Having listened to the album I'd say it is the best choice for 1st single (also considering that they all sing a bit). It could be the most mainstream (and instant) song of the lot...

Will Bep's overtake Rihanna soon? I think it is inevitable now. I just wish their song was better... it is a let down really. I have to admit it is a rare example of a song that has been pushed forward with no promo (not even a videoclip) and kills the competition on its first week... I doubt anyone had listened to (or of) it 10 days ago...

Take That are obviously an act that are suffering from having a single out a week before the album, as nowdays they are an album act. Thier album will be huge, they are the biggest act in the UK right now. Their concerts had more demand that Michael Jackson!

And the fact that BEPs are number two already with that pile of $h!te is ridiculous. Am I really that out of touch with the charts? Just a few months ago I was a teenager. I usually dont mind the BEPs but "The Time" are whatever its called makes JLS' Club is Alive sound like a masterpiece.

am I the only one who thinks Take That album won't sell more than 250k in first week?

I would have to say... yes. :P

But most artists release a single just before their album, so how is this different?

I hope it does, because album sales haven't been very good, like we've only got 3 albums that sold over 100k in it's first week, those were by Robbie Williams, Oasis & Boyzone. Two of the three were greatest hits albums :o

edit: Kings of Leon also sold over 100k

Expect Take That to be around 12th tommorow and Shayne to be around 18th.. Take that's own fault shouldn't have moved date and think to be smart and underestimate rihanna.

How has Rihanna got anything to do with whether a TT single is selling (or not)? :P

On a completely separate note.

This morning's chart...

80. Fairytale of New York - The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl :cheer: :yahoo:

I'm absolutely lost for words at the Take That disaster...I guess people just don't like the song, which is a shame :(

Ironic that the once biggest 'singles act' in the UK by far are now turning into what will be the biggest 'albums act' in the UK by far (unless their album shockingly bombs too). I guess as they get older so do their fanbase and their buying habits.

What I can't understand is that with this relative flop of a single, why I couldn't manage to get tickets for their tour two weeks ago despite trying day and night! :/ I can only assume they're all just hanging on for the album.

Not really surprised about the Take That performance.

It just highlights that singles are downloaded by kids, and Take That no longer appeal to a young audience.

Their album will probably do well though.

In today's market it's increasingly harder for the mature artist to get a hit single.

I think as soon as you've bought tickets for a tour you presume that you will buy the album, and so there isn't much point in getting the single a few days early, especially when it's on the radio all of the time. I also think that a lot of their fans don't feel the need to support their chart runs, so won't be buying the song for the sake of getting it to number one, assuming most haven't presumed it will be number one. It's not as if they need another number one to prove a point.

Not doing any dedicated promotion for the single this week was possibly a mistake if they did want a number one, but they seem to have everything geared up to promote the album with the minimum possible personal appearances. They are relying heavily on reputation, the documentary and the X Factor appearance to sell the album for them, and it will presumably work very well for them. It's not a bad strategy for a band in their position who wants to avoid over promotion and therefore over-exposure which ultimately shortens careers. Nevertheless, I think they could have afforded to do something early this week to properly flag up that the single is out.

96. Down On Me - Jeremih & 50 Cent

These two still exist?

100. Baba O'Riley - The Who

Anyone know why? :P

Yes I agree they won't appeal to the young downloaders, Howard is 43 in January and the others are mostly 40 or near it, they'll sell albums and concert tickets by the bucket load though.

Last night's Never Mind The Buzzcocks, believe it or not!

Jesus christ as Take That and Shayne Ward! Itunes is all over the place this week.

I think Take That will go in at 3 on Sunday and Shayne Ward will go in at 11.

Alexis Jordans random rise to no.4! Loves it.

Nobody cares, but Nadine's Insatiable has stayed between 51-58 since Sunday morning. :)

The BEP song is a grower, it's massive jump to no.2 is wow!

There has been a reaction to the big fall of "The Flood" on i tunes. You can now purchase the song and get the video of it for free!! The Song+Video-Bundle was at 1.99 i think, now you get both for 0.99 - the price of only the track alone. In the i tunes track chart we won't see the effect of this as you have to buy the "The Flood Album" to get the offer.
