I was thinking, as there are so many individual song polls regarding where you think it will chart, cluttering up the UK Chart forum; Should they be moved to their corresponding genre forum? (Pop, Indie, Dance, RnB etc.) Because half of the posts on the first page of the UK Chart forum are polls, for the likes of 'Ellie Goulding - Your Song' & 'The Saturdays feat. Flo Rida - Higher'. And I thought they would be more appropriate placed with the thread discussing it in each genre forum.

The likes of Dannyboy's song of 2009 poll and the 'who do you want to be #1 next week' are fine :)

Thoughts?

I misread the question (the question in the poll is different to the one in the title) so I said 'yes', I meant 'no' though.

They're *chart* predictions so they should be in the *chart* forum, simples

Oh sorry! I'll edit the thread title so it makes sense :)
NO WAY - I only ever visit this forum, so I'd never see them if they did! :(

You know what might be good though?

In the 'Pinned topic' area, perhaps there could be an index of polls, as it's very easy to duplicate them once they fall off the front page.

No...

But we should limit them to 4 a week, otherwise the forum gets cluttered up with polls and looks very messy. The other problem is some members tend to post a prediction thread when the track has not even got a release date, or the track is out 3 months later, what is the point of a prediction thread if the track is released 15 Jan 2011, its a bit way too early to track a song.

No...

Sometimes I'm forced to create a poll because discussion about where a song will chart starts clogging up the iTunes thread.

I'd rather the fans went on and on about a song in a poll thread in the UK Chart Forum than the iTunes thread, so I vote they stay.

That does sound like a good idea! :D I don't think we should get rid of them, or anything drastic like that. It will be easier for members to view as they will all be grouped in one area :) Britster, Mikey? What do you think about this?

They should stay, but a release date must be confirmed before one starts I'd say- obviously the track must have been premiered in full too

Limiting sounds difficult to police and a bit unfair if you're just the last to get in there. I agree they should stay but grouping them together sounds sensible. Putting them in genres when its predicting chart positions just seems wrong and people will miss them. Rather than a pinned index how about a subforum like me have for chart commentaries called predicta or something? It would then sit at the top of chart chat, but not clog up the main thread but not be missed by those not wishing to visit artist or genre pages?

Yes!! :yahoo:

I don't see any problem with the current system as long as they have a video and an actual release date, and sometimes it's necessary to have poll threads without video/confirmed release for certain artists whose fans are shall we say, more enthusiastic (eg, Saturdays, Alex Burke, etc).

Hiding them in sub forum defeats the purpose of having them - otherwise we end up with endless pages on where a song will chart in the iTunes thread.

The recent crop of poll threads have been very handy in directing non iTunes discussion to the actual song in its poll thread.

But we could direct people to the sub-forum and advertise it well?

I think they should stay here. But I can kinda agree with the release date and the limit rules. Depends on the amount of discussion for the acts.

Not sure about pinning. Maybe there should be a limited number of polls there too if that happens.

No, because these polls are chart related and a lot of members don't visit the genre forums, btw I don't really understand why you haven't asked first a chart mod about this idea? ;)

We have though rules about chart polls, and people should read those rules before making any prediction threads: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=2744435

Perhaps we should, but they seem to get treated like software licence agreements - you just click through them unread... :P

A big NO for another Sub-forum but I like the idea of a pinned topic. But I can tell you, not many members will read through the index topic before starting a new prediction thread. (not many people read the rules either)

About the sub-forum: no one would really visit it, it's actually the same kind of idea like moving the poll threads to the genre forums. Members who tend to visit the chart forum only won't notice the sub-forum or will not enter it (as they don't enter the genre forms either)

But we could direct people to the sub-forum and advertise it well?

Doesn't make any difference.

They will deliberately go on and on about an artist in the iTunes thread because it's a high traffic thread. I've seen some fans post the same thing twice in both the iTunes thread and the artist sub-forum. The chart prediction poll threads have actually helped in recent weeks to direct non relevant discussion away from the iTunes thread and to the relevant song's poll thread.

Fans like making predictions about songs, just as much as they like seeing a song climb 1 place on iTunes

It's an important part of the UK Chart Forum.
