Posted November 14, 201014 yr On X Factor this evening they claimed that Westlife were the best selling artists of the decade? Is this true? In albums I would have assumed that Robbie Williams, Coldplay and Eminem would have beaten them. What about singles? Edited November 14, 201014 yr by tonyttt31
November 14, 201014 yr I'm sure Westlife came second in the biggest selling singles act. Eminem was #1 if I'm not mistaken. Then again it's The X Factor - they'll big up any act to make them sound more impressive than they actually are. 14 UK #1 hits (yes, with below average sales compared to other chart toppers from the same time). -_-
November 14, 201014 yr When westlife performed on the show before was the release of their previous album and they sang what about now, x factor stats had their sales on 40 million, amazinglt tonight those sales are now 45 million, no way did they sell 5 million combined sales of the last single and album worldwide.

I guess it's possible if they're rounding to the nearest 5 million. Like say they were on 42 million last year, that would've rounded to 40 million. Then if they sold 1 million between then and now, they'd be on 43 million, which would round to 45 million. They could also have been rounding down to the nearest 5 million, in which case a similar principle applies. It's easy to manipulate statistics, but I doubt they'd outright lie infront of like 15 million people, intentionally.

It doesn't really make much difference to people watching the show if Westlife have sold 40, 43 0r 45 millions. If it is like what you say then it IS a lie, but so what we all got used to them. I highly doubt westlife's last album has sold more than 1.5 millon worldwide. (it should have shipped about 1millon actually)
November 14, 201014 yr Robbie is #1 by 3 or 4 million ahead of Westlife. Westlife are the best selling band in the UK of the decade but not artist like it was claimed. As for this nonsense about Westlife selling 45M albums - it infuriates me. It is total bull$h!t of the highest order. Only the other day 43M was claimed - so does this mean they have sold 2M copies of their new album on pre-orders alone a week before it's release? The 43M figure is constantly being claimed to be albums but the reality is - it is for 'records' - singles + albums. Westlife have sold less than 30M albums - but this is never reported. The inflated sales is really astonishing - and the rapid increase with each album is also laughable. There are still people that believe Louis and Simon's claims that 'Coast to Coast' sold over 12M and World Of Our Own sold 10M - facts are they have not even sold 10M when combined  Edited November 14, 201014 yr by De Niro
November 14, 201014 yr Author I might change the title to X Factors farcical sales claims when announcing guest artists.
November 14, 201014 yr Maybe they meant biggest BRITISH selling act of the decade? They are possibly up there anyway cant be too far off, they used to be huge.
November 14, 201014 yr Maybe they meant biggest BRITISH selling act of the decade? They are possibly up there anyway cant be too far off, they used to be huge. Even if they meant so they kept it silent so than people would asume they mean WW. Robbie should be WELL ahead in the UK albumswise anyway so it is still a lie.
November 14, 201014 yr I think it was more like Dermott was confused and got it wrong, because to be fair, in their video montage, it was stated "Biggest selling band of the decade", and not "artists". I find that most of the times they are quite genuine about the sales and all.
November 14, 201014 yr Thats true, its band, which robbie isnt. Also coldplay are bigger now but possibly not in westlifes peak of their career. Edited November 14, 201014 yr by Peace
November 14, 201014 yr westlife only have 14 number 1 singles because they released them specifically when there is no challenge to them and there's no way they sold 45 million copies, their last album just about hit double platinum
November 14, 201014 yr England and Ireland aside, do Westlife even sell internationally? Edited November 14, 201014 yr by GrAmii
November 14, 201014 yr Would it really matter if they said Westlife had sold a billion records? Does it have any impact on whether you'd buy the song or does it make the band look stupid and give ppl a good laugh that a billion ppl actually own a Westlife record
November 14, 201014 yr Author Thats true, its band, which robbie isnt. Also coldplay are bigger now but possibly not in westlifes peak of their career. Colplays entire career was in the 00s. They have sold very little this year. I think they have most likely outsold Westlife on albums.
November 14, 201014 yr Maybe they meant biggest BRITISH selling act of the decade? They are possibly up there anyway cant be too far off, they used to be huge. At last, I'm impressed with a Westlife 'Feat!' For an IRISH Act to achieve that - well, it is absolutely incredible! :P
