Progress powers to massive first-day sales

Singles

Meanwhile, JLS’s Love You More (Epic) looks set to debut at the top of the singles chart, with Take That’s The Flood moving up to two.

Albums

Take That’s Progress (Polydor) has exceeded expectations by selling more than 235,000 copies on its first day of release.

HMV had said it expected the album to sell around 150,000 copies in the UK on its first day of release based on its own calculations but Progress, the band’s first album with Robbie Williams in 15 years, far exceeded that, according to OCC sales flashes.

The sales mean Progress is certain to top the charts on Sunday and the album has already beaten the best first-week sales for 2010, established by Kings Of Leon’s Come Around Sundown in October.

In a strong week for new releases, Rihanna’s Loud (Def Jam) looks set to debut at two, after selling more than 34,000 copies on its first day of release, while albums from Bruce Springsteen, Pink, Andre Rieu and Shayne Ward should all debut in the top 10.

Susan Boyle’s second album The Gift (Syco), which debuted at one last Sunday, will probably drop out of the top five as a result.

Beatles make chart impact after iTunes deal

10:57 | Wednesday November 17, 2010

Source: MW

By Ben Cardew

Twist And Shout and I Saw Her Standing There have made an instant impact on the charts, after The Beatles’ catalogue went on sale on iTunes yesterday.

iTunes is currently reporting strong sales on the two Beatles best ofs, 1967-1970 and 1962-1966: the former is at ten on the iTunes UK chart, while the latter is at 13. Sergeant Pepper is at number 11. The two best ofs have also moved up the OCC sales flashes, sitting at 45 (1962-66) and 48 (1967-70).

Yesterday’s announcement also saw individual Beatles tracks go for sale on iTunes and a number of songs have already made an impact.

Hey Jude is at 31 on the iTunes UK chart, the highest ranking Beatles song there, while Twist And Shout has entered OCC midweek sales flashes at 85, after selling slightly more than 1,300 copies.

The only other Beatles song in the OCC top 200 is I Saw Her Standing There at 168, which sold just over 600.

Meanwhile, Take That’s Progress has sold another 50,000 copies, taking its total above 305,000.

Thursday Update Top 75 Only

Beatles chart invasion continues

10:57 | Thursday November 18, 2010

Source: MW

A total of 29 Beatles songs appear in the OCC top 200 midweek sales flashes today, led by Hey Jude at 48.

Singles

There are four songs within the top 75: Hey Jude at 48; Twist And Shout at 52; Let It Be at 53 and Here Comes The Sun at 69, with a further three in the top 100.

Meanwhile, iTunes.co.uk, which has an exclusive deal to sell Beatles downloads until 2011, has 63 of the band’s tracks in its top 200, with Hey Jude leading the way at 25.

Albums

On the albums front, iTunes.co.uk has The Beatles 1967-70 best of at six, with Sergeant Pepper at nine and 1962-66 at ten.

Elsewhere on the charts, Take That’s Progress sold another 50,000 copies yesterday, taking its total to more than 350,000.

This leaves it close to the biggest first-week sales of the century: Coldplay’s X&Y sold 465,000 in its debut week in 2005 and Take That’s The Circus sold 432,000 first week in 2008.

Ellie Goulding’s cover of Elton John’s Your Song – as featured in the new John Lewis advert - is also racing up the charts. It is at four in the OCC sales flashes and tops the iTunes.co.uk chart.

ouch what happened to Tinchy Stryder. 3-1-1 + #2 album last year. Now it's a 69-10-22 with an album predicted outside the top 10.

their second week will be above 200k regardless what they sell first week...also Thanksgiving is next week so it will help them a lot to sell above 200k.

I think it's most likely his predictions ... LOL.

Rihanna is HUGE but I don't expect her to have a better start than Cheryl and Susan Boyle.
