Based on these figures - Progress will achieve the biggest ever first day sales in the UK. Progress beats the previous record by over 100,000 sales. The previous record was also held by Take That (The Circus album) which sold 133,000 on the first day.

Progress powers to massive first-day sales

Take That’s Progress (Polydor) has exceeded expectations by selling more than 235,000 copies on its first day of release.

HMV had said it expected the album to sell around 150,000 copies in the UK on its first day of release based on its own calculations but Progress, the band’s first album with Robbie Williams in 15 years, far exceeded that, according to OCC sales flashes.

The sales mean Progress is certain to top the charts on Sunday and the album has already beaten the best first-week sales for 2010, established by Kings Of Leon’s Come Around Sundown in October.

In a strong week for new releases, Rihanna’s Loud (Def Jam) looks set to debut at two, after selling more than 34,000 copies on its first day of release, while albums from Bruce Springsteen, Pink, Andre Rieu and Shayne Ward should all debut in the top 10.

Susan Boyle’s second album The Gift (Syco), which debuted at one last Sunday, will probably drop out of the top five as a result.

Meanwhile, JLS’s Love You More (Epic) looks set to debut at the top of the singles chart, with Take That’s The Flood moving up to two.

still immpresive for TT, but I really wanted 58k for RiRi :(

Tbh 34k is rather incredible for Rihanna

Absolutely MIND-BLOWING sales for 'Progress' :o :o :o

And to think many people predicted it would sell less than 235K in the whole week - it has done it in a single day :D

Wow I wasn't expecting this at all for Take That :o

Impressive numbers for sure ! Hopefully number 1 for a few weeks then :cheer:

I agree and it almost sold as much as RatedR did in whole week.

any idea of how much it will sell in the end?

I know it's hard to predict but maybe we can compare with some other albums who sold first day in same range as Rihanna.

Moving UP to #2? :P

Anyway, those are bloody incredible sales for Take That, and fully justified. Re-combine by far the biggest group in the UK with the biggest male artist in the UK (in terms of album sales at least) and the two fanbases have provided an astonishing opening sale! It's a wonder that The Flood is still looking to be #2 with the album doing so well. Certainly looks like most people were holding out for the album rather than downloading the single but I'm amazed that they'll probably have a 500-600k selling album along with a 100k selling single in the same week. Fears of them flopping and the laughable predictions of 200k sales in the first week by some people have all been quashed!

TT are in with a serious chance of beating 'Be Here Now' by Oasis's 696,000 first week sales (yes I know they did it in three days but officially those are the week sales). It is simply astonishing. :o

Many people thought even with Rob back they couldn't get any bigger in the UK, and now they have sold 100,000 more copies first day than 'The Circus' two years ago. It is beyond amazing. :D

Yeah, greetings to everyone who thought the album would make 200k in the first week.

I know it's hard to predict but maybe we can compare with some other albums who sold first day in same range as Rihanna.

She should do exactly the same as Susan and Cheryl, 100-110k. Probably a bit more since we're getting closer to Christmas.

OMG! YES! Go Take That! And to think it could have sold more had it not been for stores selling out by lunch time!

Is it too out of the question to predict this could get close to a million by the end of the week?

Hope Take That can also get #1 with The Flood - it's very close and looks like anything can happen this week!

If those figures are correct, then Take That will easily beat Oasis' record - I think.

didn't Be Here Now sell 400k+ on first day?

Oasis did 420k first day so I dunno why people are saying it has broken Oasis's record?
