This list compares average sales per position at the start of 2008 vs the current average.

Pos % Increase

1 86.42

2 114.31

3 128.76

4 125.21

5 127.24

6 121.79

7 125.95

8 132.55

9 136.10

10 131.68

15 115.64

20 110.22

30 106.86

40 89.68

50 81.93

125 22.26

150 11.58

175 19.86

200 30.27

As you can see, it is in the T10 where the relative increase has been biggest, with most positions more than doubling their average sales over a peroid of less than 3 years!

Can u give the #1 % increase with Charity and the X Factor winners single removed from both years?
Not surprising when this year we've had tracks around no. 7 selling near 50k. In comparison a fair few weekly sales tallies for no . 1 hits in 2008 struggled to sell that amount.

Even more than "fair few": basically most of 2008 #1 weeks were under 50k:

No, I mean KOL.

P!nk did it as well I see.

In fact, a few others did it. Basshunter, Duffy, Estelle, Madonna, Dizzee. :o

Erm, they didn't. They sold seven fewer copies.

Do you have a list of the best-selling singles since you began tracking sales vidcapper? I think it would be interesting to see, thanks in advance.

It doesn't alter much - just up 10% to 96%, although don't forget that it was RATM, not an XF or Charity single that had the highest sales last Xmas...

This is my usual list, sorted by total sales, rather than YTD - its the best I can do at short notice.

1 Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling 1088400

2 Kings Of Leon Sex On Fire 1044400

3 Lady Gaga Pokerface 1009500

4 Cheryl Cole Fight For This Love 920200

5 Lady Gaga Bad Romance 860100

6 Lady GaGa ft Colby O'Donis Just Dance 857000

Is that (96%) with or without RATM?

very consistent sales for the number 1 single

They did: they sold seven fewer copies on their 3rd week than on their 1st. But this list excludes their 2nd week because they sold more than 50k that week, while I was talking about the weeks where #1s were under 50k.

Look again - the first week listed is week 37, the second week listed is week 39. On week 38 they sold over 50k.

:drama:

Most of the 2008 songs that increased their sales in their 2nd week at #1 were due to the song's physical release (Basshunter being an exception).
Interesting figures, the top 10 as far as singles go in the UK has definitley changed drastically, i'd be even more curious to know the increase in sales % from 2004/05 vs 2010, seeing as how recentley some acts have had to sell over 30k just to peak at #10 when back in 04/05 thats how much the average #10 single sold in its entire chart life.
