December 1, 201014 yr Remember though all those acts have had number 1s as well- so if your looking for a king of number 2s and just that, it would be Sash! who has never had a number 1 yet I think hit number 2 5 or 6 times
December 1, 201014 yr You've forgotten the biggest selling single of the year for Rihanna! 'Love The Way You Lie' also peaked at number 2 :P But they're not really the "kings and queens" of number 2's though as they've all had one (or more) number 1's... Surely SASH! Is the winner, with 5, to not have had a number 1? 'Encore Une Fois' {2}-4-4-5-6-9-9-14-15-20-33-38-48-52-72->15 'Ecuador' {2}-2-6-6-11-16-18-23-28-37-56-74->12 'Stay' {2}-4-4-5-9-15-21-26-33-44-48-44-54-70->14 'Mysterious Times' {2}-5-6-11-16-20-22-32-43-55-67-59->12 'Adelante' {2}-4-8-16-28-36-43-51-57-70->10

December 1, 201014 yr Crazy For You - Crime this gem just failed (twice on hitting the numer 1 spot)!! Interestingly, I watched an old ITV Chart Show top 10 that had been uploaded to YouTube from early 1991 and 'Crazy For You' was the no. 1 single rather than The Clash. I suspect the sales between The Clash and Madonna in the week they occupied the top 2 must've been quite close.
December 1, 201014 yr 2 members of The Saturdays have had 4 #2 hits (2 with the Saturdays, 2 with S Club Juniors) and no #1s but they don't really count
December 1, 201014 yr Remember seeing this a while ago ... Depeche Mode have had most Top 40 hits without making No. 1 (43 of them up to Apr 2009). In fact, they've never risen above No. 4. Billy Fury has spent 231 weeks on the Top 40. No other artist has spent longer on the chart without making No. 1. His best chart placing was Number 2 for "Jealousy" in 1961. Special mention must also go to Sash! who has made Number 2 on five occasions. No other artist has been 'runner up' with so many singles without ever making it to Number 1. (Jon) Bon Jovi has featured on twenty Top 10 singles but never made the number 1 position. Three hits behind, Janet Jackson has appeared on seventeen Top 10 singles without reaching the top spot.
December 1, 201014 yr The ITV Chart Show used to broadcast the 'Official' Top 10 on a Saturday morning. The Sales went up to Friday, (inclusive). If 'Crazy For You' was No.1 in the Chart Show Top 10, on a Saturday in 1991, it was clearly not No.1 by Midnight on the Saturday - The Clash overtook it during that day. It was always wise to look at the Chart Show Top 10 as a sort of 'Friday Mid Week Chart'. It was what happened on the Saturday, that finally decided what would be No.1 in Sunday's Top 40.

Depeche Mode *did* have the record for most top 75 hits without a #1 as well, until Glee Cast beat that record within a few months. Glee Cast hardly count though.
December 1, 201014 yr Sash! obviosuly has had a lot of bad luck, I don't know how close he was in sales all those times. What annoys me is how in the US charts (which are compiled in a weird way anyway) tend to see really huge rock hits like RHCP's "Under The Bridge", Linkin Park's "In The End", Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" etc. always stalling at #2.

'Encore Une Fois' Was beat to number 1 by No Doubt 'Don't Speak' (2nd week out of 3 for ND) 02. 'Ecuador' Beat to number 1 by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans 'I'll Be Missing You' (2nd week out of 3 for Puff Daddy) 03. 'Adelante' beat to number 1 by Gabrielle 'Rise' (2nd week out of 2 for Gabrielle) So, Sash! was unlucky enough to be up against songs, which seemed to have been "Career Bests" for said artists, and have gone on to become classics! Poor Sash!! :o

December 1, 201014 yr I guess Sash! are both king and queen of the #2s seeing that they never had a #1.
December 1, 201014 yr Sash! had a different 'queen' on each hit though so he is like the pop HenryVIII in that respect lol. Does anyone have sales figures for the weeks Sash! was at #2? I would be interested to see how close (or not?) Sash!'s misses were. I somehow doubt that many of them would have been selling enough to have been at #1 if they'd been out a different week since sales were somewhat higher in those days for most other singles. I also think Gabrielle 'career best' was probably Dreams not Rise to be fair. I'd also be interested to see what artists have been the closest to getting an only chart topper but not quite got it, for example I know Kate Nash was about a dozen copies short and Deelite about 7 copies. I wonder what other acts have missed charttopper status so finely and potentially suffered career wise as a result?
December 2, 201014 yr Author Thanks zeus for posting your info, i didnt do too badly just from memory and use of polyhex!!! Sash also joins madonna, boyzone and kylie with 3 consecutive number 2 hits!!
