December 7, 201014 yr Good for them but not that phenomenal really if the #1 act has 243 weeks Good to see Abba in the top 3 :cheer:
December 7, 201014 yr Seanster - You have missed several Acts out. Plus, you have not added 'Living Doll', (6 No.1 Weeks), to The Shadows Total. It was by Cliff Richard & The Drifters, but, it is still a Shadows No.1, too - The Drifters being their original name. Also, you give Rod Stewart 19 Singles Chart No.1 Weeks. It is definitely 18. And Simon & Garfunkel have 40 No.1 Album Chart Weeks - not 32. 7 with 'Bookends', (in 1968), & 33 with 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Also, Chart Books etc. add Paul McCartney's No.1 Weeks to his Wings No.1's - giving him 34 No.1 Weeks. ALL TIME UK CHART ACTS - BY WEEKS AT NO.1 (To W/E 11th December 2010) ACT//SINGLES//ALBUMS//TOTAL 1) BEATLES - 69 + 174 = 243 2) ELVIS PRESLEY - 80 + 63 = 143 3) ABBA - 31 + 57 = 88 4) SHADOWS - 44 + 42 = 86 @@@ 5) CLIFF RICHARD - 46 + 30 = 76 6) ROLLING STONES - 18 + 45 = 63 7) MADONNA - 29 + 29 = 58 8) TAKE THAT - 28 + 24 =52 9) ELTON JOHN - 23 + 28 = 51 10) MICHAEL JACKSON - 16 + 30 = 46 11) ROD STEWART - 18 + 27 = 45 12) SIMON & GARFUNKEL - 3 + 40 = 43 13) QUEEN - 21 + 21 = 42 14) SPICE GIRLS - 22 + 18 = 40 15) ROBBIE WILLIAMS - 9 + 29 = 38 16) DAVID BOWIE - 13 + 22 = 35 17)=PAUL McCARTNEY//WINGS - 17 + 17 = 34 17)=WET WET WET - 23 + 11 = 34 17)=PHIL COLLINS - 8 + 26 = 34 20)=BEE GEES - 13 + 20 = 33 @@@ 20)=WHITNEY HOUSTON - 16 + 17 = 33 @@@ 22)=GEORGE MICHAEL - 17 + 15 = 32 22)=FRANKIE LAINE - 32 + 0 = 32 24)=POLICE - 13 + 17 = 30 24)=SIMPLY RED - 4 + 26 = 30 24)=EMINEM - 7 + 23 = 30 27)=CARPENTERS - 0 + 29 = 29 27)=OASIS - 8 + 21 = 29 29)=T. (Plus, the 6 No.1 Weeks they had with, 'Living Doll', as Cliff Richard & The Drifters). That's 28 Singles No.1 Weeks, & 21 Albums No.1 Weeks. If you remove those 49 No.1 Weeks, (& just count Shadows Weeks), they have 37 No.1 Weeks - & would drop from 4th place to 16th. I’ve added The 18 No.1 Weeks of ‘Saturday Night Fever' to The Bee Gees Total. I've added the 9 No.1 Weeks of ‘The Bodyguard' to Whitney Houston's Total, because it was No.1 in the Combined Chart, for 9 Weeks, in 1993. In other words - it was No.1 for 11 Weeks in the Compilation Chart, & for 9 of those Weeks it was the UK's Best Selling Album. The extra 9 No.1 Weeks moves Whitney from 36th= to 20th= Position. Cher - UK Chart Books do not add Sonny & Cher's Hits, to Cher's Hits. That's why she does not have the 2 No.1 Weeks of 'I Got You Babe', by Sonny & Cher, added in. (1965). If they were added in, she'd move from 34th= to 29th= Position. Diana Ross has 14 No.1 Album Weeks added in from Diana Ross & The Supremes. (4 of the 14 Weeks, were by Diana Ross & The Supremes with The Temptations). Frankie Laine is the only Act to make the Top 30 with Singles Weeks alone - 32 Weeks, & 22=, in the List. The Carpenters are the only Act to make the Top 30 with Albums Weeks alone - 29 Weeks, & 27th= in the List. Britney Spears does not make the List, because - despite 5 No.1 Singles - she's only spent 6 Weeks at No.1 in the UK. She's never had a UK No.1 Album. She's had 4 No.2 Albums. December 7, 201014 yr Do you know why Cher's total does not include Sonny and Cher? Why is she treated differently from the other acts you mention?
December 7, 201014 yr Author " is this what the rest of that list might look like...? Seanster - You have missed several Acts out. Yes, hence me saying "...list might look like?" thought someone more knowledgable might help fill in the blanks - so thankyou!
December 7, 201014 yr Author I’ve added The 18 No.1 Weeks of ‘Saturday Night Fever' to The Bee Gees Total. The extra 9 No.1 Weeks moves Whitney from 36th= to 20th= Position. personally i don't think either of the above acts should have full weeks added to their 'Acts' total as both albums were classed as "Soundtrack" albums, just my opinion :D
December 7, 201014 yr Author Seanster - You have missed several Acts out. It is definitely 18. And Simon & Garfunkel have 40 No.1 Album Chart Weeks - not 32. 7 with 'Bookends', (in 1968), & 33 with 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. the 8 weeks "missing" on mine depends which source i guess, wasn't this the time of the postal strike? some sources give those missing 8 weeks to George Harrison's 'All Things Must Pass' as #1 - thus reducing the S&G album 25 weeks (instead of 33) at #1. :D
December 7, 201014 yr Seanster - before 'All Things Must Pass' was given 8 of its No.1 Weeks, (1971), 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' had 41 No.1 Weeks - not 33. The 2009 'Hit Albums' Book mistakenly removed 8 Weeks from the 33 - and said it has 25 No.1 Weeks left. They forgot that the 33 Weeks was what was left, (from 41), after the 8 Weeks had already been removed! So, the Simon & Garfunkel Album had 16 Weeks at No.1 removed, rather than 8. It definitely has 33 No.1 Weeks. Add in 7 Weeks for 'Bookends', & they had 40 Weeks at No.1 in the UK Album Chart - not 32. As regards the Bee Gees, & Whitney Houston. I realise that it is 'controversial' to add 'Saturday Night Fever', to the Bee Gees Total, & 'The Bodyguard', to Whitney's Total. If you disagree, just remove 18 Weeks from the Bee Gees Total, & 9 Weeks from Whitney's Total. (The Bee Gees would no longer be in the List, & Whitney would fall to 36th= position). Suedehead - I've discussed the Cher matter with The OCC, & people who've compiled Chart Books. They say that the decision was taken - long ago - to not add Sonny & Cher's Data to Cher's. Nor Simon & Garfunkels to Paul Simons, or to Art Garfunkels. As I try to reflect UK Chart Books in my Lists, I have followed the same 'Rules'. Personally, I don't think it is fair on Cher - after all, Diana Ross has only spent 2 Weeks at No.1 in the Album Chart on her own - but Chart Books let her have 14 No.1 Album Weeks from Diana Ross & The Supremes, too! (She does not get the 2 No.1 Weeks of 'Baby Love', (1964), as they were only credited as The Supremes, at the time. But, the 1974 Re-Issue, (Top 20 Hit), was credited as Diana Ross & The Supremes, so the 1974 Hit is added to Diana's Chart Data). I hear that 'Billboard', (USA), & USA Chart Books, do count 'Saturday Night Fever' as a Bee Gees Album, & 'The Bodyguard' as a Whitney Houston Album. In the UK, they tend to be simply seen as Soundtrack Albums - credited to 'Various Artists'.
December 7, 201014 yr Billboard indeed counts Saturday Night Fever as Bee Gees' album which is pretty much the same than in the case of The Bodyguard. I'd say those are regular soundtracks but it's good to point that they were led by Bee Gees and Whitney. I would like to know what do you people living in the UK think about the system which separates soundtracks from the big chart? Would it be good to have a one big chart that includes the compilations and soundtracks (like in the US).
December 7, 201014 yr thats great stuff for Take That, baring in mind they hadnt released material in 10 years before Beautiful World... if you add Robbie and Gary's time at number 1 as well then they would be third in this list...

December 8, 201014 yr Author 57)=JOHN TRAVOLTA - 16 + 0 = 16 but nothing for Olivia Newton-John? she had 16 weeks with John Travolta, plus 2 with ELO. (not to mention 13 weeks as part of the film soundtrack "Grease") :D
December 8, 201014 yr Wow Madonna is so far out ahead of any other lady -can't see that changing for a long time, if ever
December 8, 201014 yr Seanster - Well spotted, that I missed out Olivia Newton-John. I've added her in, now. She was in the List, at first - in 24th place - 18 Singles Weeks + 13 Weeks for 'Grease' = 31 No.1 Weeks. John Travolta was originally in 28th= place - 16 Singles Weeks + 13 Weeks for 'Grease' = 29 No.1 Weeks. However, I decided that it was not right to give those 2 Artists the No.1 Weeks, from 'Grease', & I moved John Travolta to 57th= place - 16 No.1 Weeks. But, I forgot to put Olivia back into the List! I've now re-added her - She's 51st= - 18 No.1 Weeks. It all gets very compilacated. If the Bee Gees get 18 No.1 Weeks from 'Saturday Night Fever', in my List, & Whitney gets 9 Weeks from 'The Bodyguard', then why can't Olivia & John have the 13 No.1 Weeks, from 'Grease'? Maybe, it is better, that none of those 3 Acts should get No.1 Weeks from Soundtrack Albums. Madonna gets 1 No.1 Week from 'Evita', (1996 - No.1 in 1997), because that Soundtrack is credited to Madonna & Various Artists. (The Bee Gees, Whitney, & John & Olivia Soundtrack Albums, are just credited as Various Artists OST Albums). Titty - Madonna is way ahead of any other SOLO Lady. Remember - ABBA had 2 Females in that Group.
December 8, 201014 yr Yes, the 8 Oasis No.1's each only spent 1 Week on Top. Only 1 of U2's 7 No.1's spent more than a Week at No.1. But, both Acts have had some No.1 Albums that spent more than a Week at No.1. Of the 14 Westlife No.1 Singles, only 1 spent more than 2 Weeks at No.1, & only 3 more spent 2 Weeks at No.1. The other 10 were only No.1 for 1 Weeks. As were the 7 No.1 Albums from that Group. MY CLIFF RICHARD ERROR I gave Cliff Richard 44 Singles Weeks at No.1. It should be 46. I've corrected it now. It gives him 76 No.1 Weeks - not 74. Edited December 8, 201014 yr by zeus555
December 8, 201014 yr Of the 14 Westlife No.1 Singles, only 1 spent more than 2 Weeks at No.1, & only 3 more spent 2 Weeks at No.1. I assume you mean '1 week'
