I quite like Kelly/Tinie's Invincible - it grew on me after 3 listens, after initially being a bit indifferent to it.

Doesn't compare to the ultimate "Invincible" for me though:-

Probably my favourite song ever ...

I'm not gonna lie, that is amazing!!!

I think it sounds a LOT like Winner Takes it All by ABBA. What's probably more distubring is that this is coming from a teenager, who doesn't want to know ABBA songs so well, but has been force-fed them by his parents...

EDIT: Actully both ABBA and that woman come from Sweden, so perhaps it was inspired by the ABBA song.

Also, anybody know why Opposite of Adults by Chiddy Bang is back in the top 100!?! I actually started listening to the song again last week, because I saw an ad for a new Chiddy Bang song, and reminded me of how much I loved Opposite of Adults, but I doubt that's responsible for it being #100 on iTunes...

Flop ESC-loon. First time I remember hearing Carola's 'Invincible', though I started watching properly the year after. Agree with Eric, sounds a lot like 'The Winner Takes It All', which is no bad thing since ABBA are amazing.
EPIC! The wind machine rules all!

I own the original Swedish version of this song, Evighet, on CD single :D

Awesome! I love the Evighet version almost as much as the english Invincible. Loved the mash-up of the two lyrics she did following her Melodi win in 2006 - "Sensaitable" "Unvincible" :D

I'm not gonna lie, I'm still pissed to this day that this song never won Eurovision 2006 / didn't get 12 points from the UK / failed to result in Carola-world-domination.

... anyway, :P does the Evighet CD come with any b-sides / bonuses?

I've listened to both Invincible and Winner Takes It All twice each now. To compare them, and then again, because they sound pretty good. I suppose it's good, as I previously had The Way I Are on repeat. I think I've got too much Keri Hilson in my life atm.

Yay, glad you like it!!!

I never saw that comparison but you are spot on - they sound very similar. I'm not sure exactly what is driving that though so would be interested in your opinion as I love it when you go into detail on song comparisons/samples and strip the song down into its component parts.

Perhaps its the piano-esque "ting-ting-ting" and the backing vocal "ahhh-ahhh-ahhh" at the start of Invincible, that sound a lot like the piano melody of TWTIA (particularly at the end when Agnetha is singing "The winner takes it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll")

Carola is the Schlager queen  The single has the instrumental on it, which is a nice bonus!

Sweden have been rehashing the Abba 'sound' at Eurovision for the best part of 30 years now - why change a winning formula!?! Listen to their 2001 entry, which really does sound like The Winner Takes It All!

Jessie J is proving to be a bit of a sleeper hit, still #21 on iTunes! Wouldn't be surprised if this got Top 10 eventually, or at the very least Top 20.

Schlager queen indeed! Wow, I need to get the single, the instrumental to Evighet/Invincible is fantastic.

Another ABBA sounding Swedish entry is their winning 1999 entry, which rips off about 10 ABBA songs in one go (probably most "appropriately" Waterloo):-

Yeah, I always find myself doing that when I hear a new song. I don't know why, I just can help it, and I find it fascinating seeing how songs sample each other, and how they influence other artists, etc.

Both songs start off with a kind of toned down first verse, before gradually adding instruments and drums throughout the song.

But I think the best place to compare them is if you listen to 0:36 - 0:50 from Invincible, and then something like 3:50 - 4:04 from Winner Takes It All.

Another similarity is that "Takes It All" rhymes with "Invincible" and they have the same number of syllables (I'm sounding like a rapper now ), and they're sang with similar notes, at the begging of the chorus, really loud. But yeah, that's basically what you said about the "ting-ting-ting" bit I guess.

It's incredible the influence ABBA have had on music today! All those Eurovision songs, the whole of The Fame Monster...

OMG that sounds worse than a drill through the brain acoustic "Promise This" Dogs all around the UK will be howling. The Flood would be better named "The Flush"

Nah, its not The Flush.

Cheryl has climbed to #29 now.

So happy Lose my mind is on the rise again too.

Give it a couple of weeks or so, I reckon it's going to explooooode.

Jessie J's 'Do It Like A Dude' is HUGE on a night out! Seriously. Really hope it benefits from the new year's picks etc...

Call me crazy, but that Charlotte Nilsson song has always slightly reminded me of Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Xmas Everyday! You can practically sing it's melody over the top of Take Me To Your Heaven's chorus, and listen out for the xmas bells and trumpets used in Charlotte's song too - tweak a few lyrics and it should have been a xmas song!

Great to see The Flood got a boost after her performance. She did a great job, much better than the Royal Variety performance.
A legendary record producer has made a song in his Cookham studio which featured on Noel's Christmas Presents programme at the weekend.

Stuart Epps, who has worked with Elton John, Oasis and Led Zeppelin in the past, was asked to work on a charity single with star Chris De Burgh and two brothers who were surprised as part of the Sky One show, fronted by Noel Edmonds.

Aired yesterday evening, the household name's seasonal show sees treats handed out to the nation's 'most deserving, hard-working and selfless people'.

One feature saw teen brothers Ben and Jamie Hazelby, from Manchester, rewarded for their tireless charity work since the death of their 41-year-old mother Gill, whose favourite song was Lonely Sky by Chris De Burgh.

Their dreams came true when programme-makers arranged for them to record a version of the song with the Lady In Red singer himself.

Stuart recorded Chris' vocals in a London studio while the brothers went along to his Station Studios in the heart of the village to sing their part. "The boys were over the moon and Chris De Burgh was marvellous", he said.

Proceeds of the track will go to St Ann's Hospice in Greater Manchester, which the family has been on a fundraising drive for.

as taken from Sky 1's website, although I'm surprised its this high :o its for a good cause though ^_^

Jessie J is gone up to #20!! :D It's been out for a month now? I think that's pretty amazing for a new artist!

Radio 1 are basically bludgeoning Do It Like A Mandem Mandem Mandem or whatever it's called into being a hit by not taking it off the playlist (infact, moving it up the lists) when it flopped. Vile song.

You're totally right :o  "Jesus came from heaven, down for men to see"

I can't believe you had a Eurovision/ABBA discussion in here yesterday and I missed it :snif: For the record I think Carola's Fangad I En Stormwind (her winner in 1990) is her best song, but Invincible was quite good. The best schlager song ever of course is Alcazar - Stay The Night. Or Linda Bengtzing - Jag Ljuger Sa Bra. I don't know :(

Oh, and ABBA's best song is The Day Before You Came. FACT.

That would work :D

What about Framling! Another Carola classic, she's amazing  If we can call Stay The Night schlager then I'd agree with you on that point!
