December 12, 201014 yr The obvious question: Does anyone know other father & daughter couples who have made the UK charts than those Suedehead mentioned? Edited December 12, 201014 yr by SKOB
December 12, 201014 yr There was a mad panic at ITV recently when they realised they hadn’t broadcast a programme promoting the work of Michael Buble for several weeks. This was exactly what I was thinking.
December 12, 201014 yr By my reckoning, 'Gold', by ABBA is now on around 4,800,000 to 4,840,000 UK Sales. UK ‘HITS’ ALBUMS WITH THE MOST TOP 40 WEEKS (To W/E 18th December 2010) (Any Albums that did not reach No.1, are indicated) ‘Gold’, by ABBA, re-enters the UK Top 40 this Week (No.31). It is its 615th Top 100 Week, 434th Top 75 Week - and 215th Top 40 Week. No other ‘Hits’ Album has managed 215 Top 40 Weeks. Previously, it was 1st= with ‘Greatest Hits’ - Simon & Garfunkel. Not only are ABBA the only Act with 2 Albums in this Top 10, but, the only Act, with some Songs that are on more than 1 Album in the List. 'Waterloo', 'SOS', 'Mamma Mia', & 'Fernando', are on both 'Gold', & 'Greatest Hits'. NOTE - ‘Gold’ is already the Album, (any Genre), with the most Top 40 Weeks by a Group. The previous Record Holder was, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, by Pink Floyd. That 1973 Album spent 211 Weeks in the Top 40 - Peaking at No.2. However, if you regard Duo’s as ‘Groups’, (I don’t), then Simon & Garfunkel still hold the Chart Record, for the Album with the Most Top 40 Weeks, for a Group. Their ‘Bridge Over Troubled’ Water’ Album, (1970), spent no less than 278 Weeks in the Top 40 1) GOLD - ABBA (1992) - 215 WEEKS 2) GREATEST HITS - SIMON & GARFUNKEL (1972) - 214 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 3) THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY - BUDDY HOLLY (1959) - 156 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 4) GREATEST HITS - QUEEN (1981) - 149 WEEKS 5) BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS - BEACH BOYS (1966) - 134 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 6) GREATEST HITS - ABBA (1976) - 114 WEEKS 7) THE SINGLES 1969 - 1973 - CARPENTERS (1974) - 112 WEEKS 8) GREATEST HITS - ANDY WILLIAMS (1970) - 107 WEEKS 9) LEGEND : THE BEST OF - BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS (1984) - 102 WEEKS 10) BEST OF THE SEEKERS - SEEKERS (1968) - 101 WEEKS 11) THE BEATLES 1967 - 1970 (BLUE ALBUM) - BEATLES (1973) - 98 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 12) THE BEATLES 1962 - 1966 (RED ALBUM) - BEATLES (1973) - 96 WEEKS (No.3 Hit) 13) THEIR GREATEST HITS 1971 - 1975 - EAGLES (1976) - 89 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 14) MANILOW MAGIC - BARRY MANILOW (1979) - 86 WEEKS (No.3 Hit) 15) GLEN CAMPBELL’S GREATEST HITS - GLEN CAMPBELL (1971) - 78 WEEKS (No.8 Hit) 16) IMMACULATE COLLECTION - MADONNA (1990) - 77 WEEKS 17)=THE COLLECTION - BARRY WHITE (1988) - 61 WEEKS (No.5 Hit) 17)=SIMPLY THE BEST - TINA TURNER (1991) - 61 WEEKS (No.2 Hit) 17)=CARRY ON UP THE CHARTS - BEAUTIFUL SOUTH (1994) - 61 WEEKS 20) DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES GREATEST HITS - DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES (1968) - 60 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS - BOB DYLAN (1967) - 58 WEEKS (No.6 Hit) 21)=FOUR TOPS GREATEST HITS - FOUR TOPS (1968) - 58 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS - EURYTHMICS (1991) - 58 WEEKS 21)=GREATEST HITS II - QUEEN (1991) - 58 WEEKS 21)=HISTORY : PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, BOOK 1 - MICHAEL JACKSON (1995) - 58 WEEKS *** *** = I was not sure whether to include this Album or not. Whilst CD 1 featured 15 of MJ’s old Hits, CD 2 was 15 New Songs…..
December 12, 201014 yr Author Thanks for that extra information zuess. I suspect your Abba estimate is about right. I just went on the figure in the Virgin book which is now oveer 18 months old. As for History, I would do what you have done, i.e. I would list it but with a note that it was effectively a hybrid GH / new album.
December 12, 201014 yr As is common in the last couple weeks before the ancient pagan festival of Saturnalia... Oh well, at least you didn't refer to it as Wintermas.
