April 26, 201114 yr Doctor Who season openers have varied from awful to weak until last years was pretty good and this one was excellent. Bodes extremely well for the series. Last years's opener was dreadful! Episode 2 wasn't great either. S5 only really took off starting from episode 3.
April 26, 201114 yr I didn't mind the season opening episodes last year, it's always more difficult when you have to introduce a new companion/doctor, especially when it's both so I think it did the job nicely enough. This series proved that when there aren't such problems in place things can be proper fantastic, as they were.
April 26, 201114 yr The Eleventh Hour was absolutley incredible. Let's not forget, it was Matt Smith's first outing as the Doctor and what it did it did very well for his character. Series 5 gets alot of undeserved hate. It wasn't amazing by any means, 'The Beast Below' in particular is disgraceful, but all the Moffat penned episodes were among the best of new Who and 'Time Of Angels/Flesh And Stone' was absolutley wonderful.
April 26, 201114 yr It goes like this... The Impossible Astronaut The Eleventh Hour Smith & Jones New Earth Rose Partners In Crime For the new series that is. Tomb Of The Cybermen remains the best ever series opener Edited April 26, 201114 yr by Severin
April 26, 201114 yr I have to disgaree I'm afraid! New Earth was easily the worst of the openers; a complete abomination to new Who. Partners In Crime was quite great really. I'd go: The Impossible Astronaut The Eleventh Hour Partners In Crime Rose Smith & Jones New Earth Although, Tomb Of The Cybermen !
April 26, 201114 yr It goes like this... The Impossible Astronaut The Eleventh Hour Smith & Jones New Earth Rose Partners In Crime For the new series that is. Tomb Of The Cybermen remains the best ever series opener I'd rank them thus; The Impossible Astronaut (BEST) New Earth Partners In Crime The Eleventh Hour Smith & Jones Rose (WORST) I don't even remember what happens in Rose. There's Autons and then... there isn't Autons I guess? I love New Earth! :( Edited April 26, 201114 yr by Bray
April 26, 201114 yr Smith & Jones would be higher if Martha wasn't in it. I like to pretend Series 3 didn't happen.
April 26, 201114 yr Smith & Jones would be higher if Martha wasn't in it. I like to pretend Series 3 didn't happen. But then the fantastic Blink wouldn't exist! :(
April 26, 201114 yr I would rank them: New Earth The Impossible Astronaut Smith and Rose Rose Partners In Crime The Eleventh Hour I actually loved New Earth, although series 2 was by far my favourite series :D Smith and Rose and Rose were OK, but the last two weren't great, looking back on the eleventh hour, it really wasn't good :(
April 26, 201114 yr I would rank them: The Impossible Astronaut The Eleventh Hour Partners In Crime New Earth Rose Smith & Jones I would agree with James that I'd like to think Series 3 didn't happen, but as Bray said, we wouldn't have got Blink then, which is easily one of my favourite episodes.
April 26, 201114 yr Thing is with Series 3, the stories are actually great; it's just that the companion is beyond $h!t and brings the whole TARDIS team down. Series 3 has some brilliant story ideas though, see 'Blink' (the lack of Martha in this episode is probably what makes it so great!), 'Human Nature/Family Of Blood' and 'Utopia' as the best examples (though not 'Evolution Of The Daleks', fuck that continuity plagued shit.) Then by contrast, we have Series 4, where the stories weren't that great but the TARDIS team is AMAZING.
April 26, 201114 yr BTW, if Rory had just gone "OH $h!t THERE'S FREAKY ALIEN MONSTER THINGS OUT HERE" then surely River Song would have been able to remember that (as she wasn't looking at them but was close enough to hear and realise) and thus eventually they would get caught out in a situation such as that. EVERYTHING is Rory's fault.
April 26, 201114 yr I'd go for the following: Smith & Jones The Impossible Astronaut The Eleventh Hour Partners In Crime Rose New Earth The top 2 are pretty much tied, but that scene with Donna and The Doctor through the glass is one of my highlights of the entire 5 series'.

Then by contrast, we have Series 4, where the stories weren't that great but the TARDIS team is AMAZING. I agree 100% with this. I absolutely HATE Martha, awful awful companion, ruined every episode and that really annoys me because the episodes were great. Series 4 is easily my favourite overall series though, I think some of the stories were a little down on quality, but Donna and The Doctor were perfect together. Of course it brought us River Song (YAY) and 'Donna Noble has been saved, Donna Noble has left the library' too, which still gets me every time.
April 26, 201114 yr I actually cannot remember a single Martha episode. Or at least I cannot remember Martha in them. Donna is my favourite ever assistant, the way the character went from being ridiculously annoying in the christmas special to actually bringing me to the verge of tears in the season finale was quite the turnaround.

EVERYTHING is Rory's fault. Well he turned around before saying anything, so it isn't entirely his fault :P
April 26, 201114 yr I dislike all this Martha hate, she's definately my fave although i've loved all 4 of them.
April 26, 201114 yr Martha was so forgettable imo :( I wasn't keen on Donna that much either although that was a good series, Rose is still my favourite, but Amy has grown on me Edited April 26, 201114 yr by chart wizard
April 26, 201114 yr Rose was good. Who ever though that Billie Piper could act? Martha was boring and Donna was annoying. Amy Pond is the best of the lot. And, as was said so eloquently earlier in the thread, Rory is a loveable dope.
