Christmas Top Of The Pops: My nearly accident-free show

Post categories: music

You know it's Christmas when you start thinking seconds for dinner is normal and thirds is something to push for, your nan has only gone and got you that same pair of slippers again, and Top Of The Pops is on the TV.

One of my earliest memories of watching Christmas Top Of The Pops was seeing East 17 perform Stay in all white, and lead singer Brian Harvey performed wearing a white puffa jacket and ski goggles. It was genius and incredibly stupid all at the same time. Classic.

Hosting the show is something I look forward to every year and as a fan, I love it being part of my Christmas Day (even if I have to see my ugly boat race on screen).

This year really did feel like a celebration of a year of great British artists holding the UK charts in the palm of their hands.

From number one single and album artist Tinie Tempah performing the anthemic Pass Out, to Ellie Goulding battering a glitter-covered drum on stage, to JLS making even the ladies on our camera team get a bit of a swoon on.

Then there was Plan B and his incredible band, and Eliza Doolittle and her incredible belly top. Ahh, good times.

Between swallowing an unfortunate amount of fake snow and nearly leaning on the trigger for the pyro gun, I had an incredible accident-free night.

Well, that's if you don't count the Nando's I spilled on my trousers. Spot the stain on your TV folks, it is there.

Myself and big sis Fearne Cotton had a great night as always. I had to laugh as Fearne became the bionic woman of television presenters wearing - after a wardrobe panic - shoes from Claudia Winkleman and a certain undergarment from Tess Daly.

Too funny, but classic Cotton.

Without doubt, this year was one to remember.

Reggie Yates is the co-presenter of Top Of The Pops.

Top Of The Pops is on Saturday, 25 December at 2pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

For further programme times, please visit the upcoming episodes page.

You can sing along to the hits of 2010 with Top Of The Pops Christmas Karaoke by pressing the red button during the show on BBC One on Saturday, 25 December. The TOTP Christmas Karaoke will continue to be looped on the red button until 6am on Sunday, 26 December.

Take Cotton & Yates off of it & put a half decent presenter on it & it would be worth watching. Those are the 2 acts that ruin it. ;)

Tinie and Jason are the only exciting ones tbh. :( The rest just seem to be a collection of the most radio friendly hits of the year...

That list is beyond a joke and typical of R1 DJs trying to pretend that Indie is dominating the British charts when urban music clearly rules.Ellie and Eliza may be good but Cheryl, Alexandra, Rihanna, Katy Perry are far bigger sellers and better performers both Eliza and Ellie did not even reach No 1 this year.Where are Roll Deep, Taio Cruz, N'Dubz, Bruno Mars and B.O.B who all have the UK charts in the palm of their hands.Hope it gets really low viewing figures.

what?maybe it was hard to get the said artists above??and i would hardly describe them as indie.they also have to think of the fact its shown on xmas day when all youre grannys will be round having dinner.i doubt they want to hear chav crap like roll deep at that time!!!

Since when were either anyhing approaching indie? Radio 1 backs urban music a hell of a lot, Tinie and Jason are deservedly on there but Ellie and Eliza both merit it for releasing two of the year's best-received, best selling POP songs.

Well that was pretty $h!t. Hope the NY's one is better

Rihanna, Cheryl and Katy are horrendous live, and I would personally prefer to listen to acts like Eliza and Ellie, who are actually able to hold a tune live. As much as I love Rihanna, Cheryl and Katy, pretending they are better performers/live singers, is just completely incorrect.

I missed the start of the show :( Didn't realise it started so early.

I turned on near the end of Tinie's performance. The rest of the show was fairly $h!t. Coldplay were okay I guess.

A bit disappointing TBH. Actually Coldplay were quite good. Tinie & SFG were decent compared to the the poor show. Why did they show Take That from CIN. I thought it was Top of the pops not showing performances from elsewhere

I completely agree with Cheryl & Katy being awful live but Rihanna? She used to be reasonably poor live but she has improved so much and is now a great live performer imo. Did you miss the X Factor Final by any chance?

100% agree! Especially Cheryl and Katy! Let's say if they were homeless and had to sing in the streets to survive..starve to death was their future!

Ellie, Plan B, Cee Lo Green and Coldplay

coldplay were great, they must have purposely not wanted to promote this single - it was released straight away and they only promoed on radio 1 live lounge and there on TOTPs!!

if TOTPs was shown before xmas eve christmas lights would have rocketed up the chart, its just too late now!!im sure it will be a christmas classic in the long run though and people will be astounded it only peaked at no13 anfd the long forgotted matt cardle was no1!! :P

Coldplay were great so was Eliza, the rest were a little bland for Xmas. Cee Lo was a just a tad too bright.
