December 29, 201014 yr Author #131 SHONTELLE “Impossible” from the album “No Gravity” [september 2010] 10-9-13-17-23-32-42-49-57-70-x NWdrO4BoCu8 ~ 688 points // 10 weeks // #9 peak ~ Here is the only entry for the lesser of the two fairly successful recent Barbadian female singers. Shontelle (full name Shontelle Boukmill) first came to light in 2009 with the (awful) #6 hit T-Shirt. Her début album Shontelligence was a total flop though, and follow-up singles Stuck With Each Other (feat. Akon) and Battle Cry didn’t do near as well peaking at #23 and #61 respectively. This year she came back with an actual halfway decent song, Impossible, which made the top 10 to bring her number of top ten hits to two. She hasn’t done anything else chart wise since then though. Impossible was yet another song to defy Radio 1 snubbage and be a decent sized hit. Quite reminiscent of Gabriella Cilmi actually, right down to the peak positions of her two hits (6 and 9). That's it for today. I'll endeavour to put up 130-101 tomorrow.
December 29, 201014 yr He was in One True Voice? I never knew that before. (Actually I do vaguely remember reading that somewhere) Yes! Then he left after the flop of their horrendous second single (whoever thought they could release something worse than the first!?!) and then the remaining four split up anyway...
December 29, 201014 yr #146 McLean (full name Anthony McLean) released this, first proper single My Name, just as the big hype for UK black males was starting to fade. Had he released it near the end of last year it would almost certainly have been a top 5 hit. As it stands, it just scraped into the top 10, much like another single which McLean featured on (but wasn’t given an individual credit), charity ensemble Young Soul Rebels’ 2009 #10 hit I Got Soul, which raised money for the charity War Child and was most notable for the fact that it sampled The Killers’ 2004 #18 hit All These Things That I’ve Done. There’s not a lot to comment on on this song. It’s quite dull really. Isn't he related to Bitty "It Keeps Rainin'" McLean? You could mention that.
December 29, 201014 yr #162 GABRIELLA CILMI “On A Mission” from the album “Ten” [March 2010] 9-17-16-23-28-43-68-79-x It would have been fair to assume Australian singer Gabriella Cilmi would never get another top 10 hit after her massive 2008 #6 hit Sweet About Me, especially when her comeback On A Mission was snubbed by Radio 1 (with the amount of times I’ve said this you’d think Radio 1 doesn’t make a big difference to the chart, but there have just been quite a few examples of defiers this year). But, nonetheless, she did get a flash-in-the-pan-esque #9 hit with this song, much to the delight of many BuzzJackers. It didn’t save the album though, which remained a huge flop, only making #28 and spending only 2 weeks top 100. This woman performed last July in my homecity, which is not a big city, even by Portugal's standards! If I liked her beforehand, I adore her ever since! And yeah, album "Ten" deserved far, far more success than it had.
December 30, 201014 yr Author #130 3OH!3 FEAT. KE$HA “My First Kiss” from the album “Streets Of Gold” [July 2010] 7-10-10-21-30-36-48-52-46-66-97-x AYC2FUutdKA ~ 688 points // 11 weeks // #7 peak ~ My First Kiss was the song that saved US electro-pop duo 3OH!3 (Nathaniel Motte, Sean Foreman) from seemingly inevitable two-hit-wonder-dom. They had 2 hits off second album Want, Don’t Trust Me (#21 in 2009, re-released in 2010 and got back up to #22) and Starstrukk (feat. Katy Perry, #3 in 2010 and features later in the countdown) but it didn’t seem like any of their other material would be strog enough to chart. Possibly aided by pretending to feature the very popular US singer Ke$ha (full name Kesha Sebert) who in actuality says a total of ten different words in the song, they managed to score a second top 10 hit with this. Unfortunately it seems this has simply upgraded them to ‘three hit wonders’ if you like, as follow-up single Double Vision failed to make the top 100. Album Streets Of Gold didn’t do brilliantly either, only making #19 (though that was still a vast improvement on Want which only made #77). Edited December 30, 201014 yr by ★ 2011 Bray ★
December 30, 201014 yr Author #129 PENDULUM “Watercolour” from the album “Immersion” [May 2010] 4-13-22-19-26-37-51-63-76-95-x(1)-70-74-77-99-x tEPB7uzKuh4 ~ 688 points // 14 weeks // #4 peak ~ The second top 10 hit for Australian drum-n-bass band Pendulum (Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, Paul Harding, Ben Mount, Peredur Ap Gwynedd, Kevin Sawka) after 2008 #9 hit Propane Nightmares was this, the incredible Watercolour. 2010 was a big year for Pendulum, with them getting their first #1 album with third album Immersion (the only drum-n-bass album to ever top the charts). Watercolour unfortunately dropped down the charts quite quickly and the two follow-up singles didn’t do near as well (Witchcraft made #29 and The Island frustratingly got to #41) but it was still a great achievement for them to make the top 5 with a song of their genre. Rather unusually, Pendulum released the parent album 3 weeks after the first single. Most artists would tend to release the album one or two weeks after the first single, or failing that wait until 1-2 weeks after the second or third single. Anyway, the album’s release in the fourth week of Watercolour’s chart run gave it a third week in the top 20, although this was still some way off Propane Nightmares’ total of seven weeks in the top fifth of the chart. Ah well.
December 30, 201014 yr Author I probably won't have time to go all the way up to #101 today as I'm a bit busy, not that anyone cares a great deal though :P I'll just post however many I can
December 30, 201014 yr Author #128 ENRIQUE IGLESIAS FEAT. NICOLE SCHERZINGER “Heartbeat” from the album “Euphoria” [september 2010] 50-13-8-10-15-26-34-43-56-82-84-x NVk4vENObiI ~ 690 points // 11 weeks // #8 peak ~ One of the most notable defiers of Radio 1 snubbage this year has been Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias (full name Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler - thanks to N-S for pointing out my ignorance of how Spanish names work). His comeback single I Like It (feat. Pitbull) from ninth studio album Euphoria was a huge hit (and will appear later in the countdown) despite not even gracing the Radio 1 C-List. Often when an artist scores a big hit after Radio 1 snubbage the follow-up single gets a place on the playlist (an example of this being The Wanted, All Time Low was snubbed while Heart Vacancy and Lose My Mind have both made the playlist). This wasn’t the case with Enrique. This, second single Heartbeat featuring US singer Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls fame, was also ignored by the radio station. Despite this it still managed to give Iglesias his eighth top 10 hit (and Scherzinger her second solo, or third if you count A.R. Rahman and The Pussycat Dolls’ 2009 #3 hit Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny) where she gave herself a solo featured credit) even though album Euphoria was already a sizeable #6 hit on the album chart. Edited December 30, 201014 yr by ★ 2011 Bray ★
December 30, 201014 yr Author #127 CHIPMUNK FEAT. TALAY RILEY “Look For Me” from the album “I Am Chipmunk” [November 2009] -10-7-16-22-26-35-41-55-69-84-x(3)-67-90-x fBIccKpKNwo ~ 690 points // 12 weeks // #7 peak ~ We come to the highest entry for Chipmunk. This song had a strange chart run at the end of 2009, entering at #44 then climbing to #36 the following week before rocketing up to #19 then to #10 giving Chipmunk his fourth top 10 hit. But instead of climbing again the next week it plummetted all the way to #20… then climbing back to #13. It then rejoined the top 10 (as you can see in its chart run above) before reaching a new peak of #7 and then starting to drop again. Chartstats.com plots the chart runs of singles onto a graph. The up-down-up-down nature of this song’s chart run makes an ‘M’ shape, as if ‘Munk’ (as he sometimes is known as) was signing his initial across the graph. Click here to see it if you want. Anyway, enough about that, Look For Me was the fourth single released from Chipmunk’s début album I Am Chipmunk. It featured British singer Talay Riley who has since attempted to have a career in music on his own but so far failed, his début release Humanoid missing the top 100. The music in the background is reminiscent of The Black Eyed Peas’ smash I Gotta Feeling - perhaps the producer of this song had been listening to a few too many David Guetta productions?
December 30, 201014 yr I care Bray! I just don't really know what to reply with other than generic 'ooh thats interesting' replies :P.
December 30, 201014 yr Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias (real name Enrique Preysler). His real name is Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler. In Spain and most Hispanic countries, the father's surname comes before the mother's surname. For example, Enrique's dad's full name is Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva. December 30, 201014 yr Author Fair enough, it does feel like wasted effort when I post 5+ entries in a row without a single comment but I'll believe you that people are still interested in it :P I understand how chart wizard feels in the Reshuffle Chart of the Year thread now

So does everyone in Spain essentially have a double barrelled surname?
December 30, 201014 yr Interesting, I didn't know that. So does everyone in Spain essentially have a double barrelled surname? Yes, and Portugal, it's a Latin thing. ;) Do you keep record of this throughout the year to get the chart-runs etc?
December 30, 201014 yr Interesting, I didn't know that. So does everyone in Spain essentially have a double barrelled surname? Yes. I know lots of Spanish people, and they all have two surnames. However, most of the ones I know in the UK, just use the British method of determining their surnames in everyday life, I guess to just fit into the culture and so as to not confuse people.
December 30, 201014 yr Author Yes, and Portugal, it's a Latin thing. ;) Do you keep record of this throughout the year to get the chart-runs etc? Well I have all the chart runs stored in my spreadsheet, but it still takes some effort input (not very much) to type out the chart runs. I'm finding myself copying the chart runs from chartstats.com (which I go to to find the month) more than from my own spreadsheet though.
December 30, 201014 yr I'm still interested Bray, its just hard to comment at times - I'm starting to understand why there wasn't any comments in the early stages of my countdown now :P
December 30, 201014 yr Interesting, I didn't know that. So does everyone in Spain essentially have a double barrelled surname? Yes, and in Portugal too, like Klumzee said. If not tripled or quadrupuled barrelled! Edited December 30, 201014 yr by N-S
