No, but you were probably the only straight guy screaming Mean Girls quotes at the TV.
What's with the Frankie hate? I thought she was pretty brilliant. This opening episode was far better than I thought it would be and Grace is indeed fantastic. In fact I liked them all I think, even Mini. Nice start to the season!

Why have they changed the cast from the original promo shots?

Anyway it was OK. Cliched again as usual. I actually really liked Frankie, whereas the other girl idk. Her accent was annoying. I couldn't make out whether it was West County or Scottish? Anyway it was a v.weird accent.

didn't think much of it tbh, i'm hoping the ginger guy will be funny like Chris. Mini's accent is f***ed up, Grace seems to be channelling Cassie and Pandora, Liv reminds me of Jal a lil and overall the acting is pretty $h!t.

Alo and Frankie must surely be the parents of Elly Jackson.

Also, i loved it.

Mini's accent is f***ed up

That's called a Scottish accent, you spanner.

It's not meant to be a scottish accent though, it's meant to be Bristolian.

I didn't watch this, but it had a massive backlash over facebook. I can't find one person that thought it was good :o

em.. did anyone watch this

I personally thought Rich wasn't very likeable, I think thats a problem they have with the characters this series, it was an OK episode, but not great :(

Yeah I agree, okay actor though and tbf he does remind me of what alot of these 'metalheads' are like .... so far Grace is the only likeable character  ''Sod off you ... sod!'' <3.

I never understand all this 'the characters aren't very likeable' talk when it comes to tv programs. Characters are made to be flawed / human / dislikeable aspects, if anything it should help us empathise with them? In the case of Rich it was 'i'm metal, that's all i'm defining myself by. Fuck you cruel world!'. Maybe i'm going a bit too DEEP here, but it was a nice episode regardless.

I thought it was okay an episode. In fact I loved it. Rich was kinda hot? I don't know. It was lovely. love.

It was just OK. I still miss the days of Cassie, Maxxie, Tony et all and of course Effy and Pandora but it was good. I really only like Grace and Rich though, and can't stand that friggin' Mini and hope she gets shot or something early on.

Also, it's obvious to the naked eye that Frankie will be shagging Mini's boyfriend by the end of the series.. I think.

Also, the general soundscape when Rich lost his hearing was AMAZING. The most audibly satisfying sequence in television / film i can think of, if Elephant didn't exist.
Just watched some of this, why on earth are people still watching this shockingly bad show. poor acting, poor dialogue, complete lack of knowledge of the generation they are trying to portray, and they really really don't have a clue about alternative culture at all.

Oh dear Chris. I could've predicted your response to that episode before I even clicked in this topic. Have an open mind! It was supposed to be a slight parody of metal head culture, I would've thought that much was obvious, so of course their portrayal of it wasn't spot on.

I don't agree about the acting or dialogue either. We all laughed throughout the episode. Skins is never going to be representative of actual teenagers and never has been but then soap isn't representative of actual community life. Television generally isn't about escapism. If you wanted a real insight into metal culture you could always just, you know, watch a documentary.

thing is it was difficult to sympathise with him- even at the end :( I know characters should have dislikeable traits eg, problems, insecurity but just not too many that its incapable to sympathise with them- its just like this for me

Jesus, I find myself getting incredibly defensive about this season. Whether you like it or not, Chris, the Skins writers' average age is something like 25, so they hardly have a lack of knowledge of the generation they're portraying. Admittedly it doesn't mean they have any idea about 'metal culture', but at the end of the day it's really written by and for people looking at it from the outside in, which is that it can be ridiculous / difficult to take seriously, alienating and excluding. It'd probably come across as downright cringy to metalheads, a pisstake, whatever. It's definitely not meant to be a serious portrayal though.

I'll give you that there could be poor acting and poor dialogue though. They just pass me by because this season really seems to have landed in the perfect place of still being aesthetically pleasing without being some 'bizarre self-indulgent arthouse thing' that was season 4, as Jake so marvellously puts it.

I dunno, i can never dislike tv and film characters simply because i normally see aspects of myself in quite a few of them coz i'm JUST THAT SELF CENTRED. It would be hypocritical to do so. Same goes for real life, to a lesser extent, i guess!
