January 2, 201114 yr Author ● 2009 Comparisson: Of course the real test is to see how well The Saturdays have sold this year compared to last years figures. Blue indicates a sales increase, and Red indicated a sales decrease. 2009 Sales: 0.74m 2010 Sales: 0.82m 2009 Overlap Sales: 0.46m 2010 Overlap Sales: 0.08m 2009 Total Sales: 1.2m 2010 Total Sales: 0.9m ● Commentary: The Saturdays have suffered a 300k loss in 2010 Overal Sales compared to 2009's data. Even though their sales on purely 2010 releases alone (Ego, Missing You, Higher and Headlines!) has had a 10% increase, it's cross-over sales from 2009's release alone have suffered a fatal 75% decrease. Cross-over sales are sales that come from the previous years releases (In this case, Forever is Over and Wordshaker) compared to 2009's cross-overs (If This Is Love, Up!, Issues, and Chasing Lights). 2009 was a huge year for The Saturdays and the sales clearly reflect this. They released the official Comic Relief Charity single 'Just Cant Get Enough' and managed to score 3 consecutive silver-selling singles in a row, 'Up' (2008), 'Issues' and 'Just Can't Get Enough' (2009). Not only that, but their debut album went platinum and spawned a total of 5 singles. The final quater of 2009 however was a different story. Even though the first single from their 2nd album 'Wordshaker' debuted at #2, the single only spent a total of 6wks in the Top 40 and a futher 4wks inside the Top 100. 'Wordshaker' was on course to get The Saturdays their first Top 5 album according to midweek sales flashes, but ended up debuting at #9, the same peak of their debut 'Chasing Lights'. The album spent a dissapointing 2wks in the Top 40 before making a brief re-appearance at #37 in January 2010 upon the release of the albums 2nd single 'Ego'. 'Wordshaker' sold a dissapointing total of 84k compared to the previous album 'Chasing Lights' which sold 337k. ● The Saturdays released a total of 4 singles, one album and a re-issue of their debut album 'Chasing Lights'. 2010 saw the release of their 2nd biggest hit 'Ego' in January and ended up selling over 300k. However the single did little to promote the album. After taking a short break The Saturdays came back in Summer 2010 with the follow up to Ego, 'Missing You' which faced a grueling weeks chart battle for the #1 spot, with just a few 1000 coppies separating the top 2. Missing You debuted at #3. The single clung onto the Top 40 for 7wks followed by a further 7wks in the Top 100. The release of their next LP 'Headlines' caused a futher stir when it contained 'Wordshaker' material. However, it-outsold Wordshaker in a matter of weeks and gave The Saturdays their best album chart run to date. 'Headlines' debuted at #3 giving The Saturdays their best peaking album, with a little help from their ITV2 series 'The Saturdays 24/7'. The album spent a total of 10 consective weeks in the Top 40, and re-enterring at #39 after a re-issue of the LP was released. The album spent a further 8wks Top 100. It was the 2nd single 'Higher' that was to give The Saturdays their most controvercial chart run to date after spending 6 consecutive weeks inside the Top 30 (3 non-consecutive weeks at #22) before it's official release in November 2010. The single featured guest rapper Flo Rida for a 'spruced up' Single Mix. The single peaked at #10 and spent 4wks Top 20 before spending a futher 3wks in the Top 40. ● The Saturdays released a total of 3 singles, one album and a re-issue of their 3rd album 'Headlines!' We need to remember that Ego was had over 100k sales before this year started.
January 2, 201114 yr Author Looks Like Higher will go 3rd highest soon. We need to remember that Ego was had over 100k sales before this year started. Ego sold 44k in 2009, not over 100k.
January 3, 201114 yr Wow! 'Ego' could very well overtake 'Up' to become their biggest selling single! It's a lot closer than I'd imagined! :o
January 3, 201114 yr Ego seems to have been on 307K for months. What about all the trickle sales since Headlines was relased? It's still top 300 on iTunes I think and has been for ages.
January 3, 201114 yr According to Jay at DenDen; Ego is now on 312,000 and is therefore they're best selling single to date :D Also; quite amazing to think they're both less than 90,000 copies from a Gold certification, although it is very unlikely to happen unless performed on X Factor by a contestant or something stupid like that hehe. :) Edited January 3, 201114 yr by IfUSeeBritney
January 3, 201114 yr Author The last sales updates we had for If This Is Love to Ego was a very long time ago now so I expect Forever Is Over and Ego to have some sort of boost from the 'cherry picking' from Headlines. Up however has probabbly still sold alot more than Ego.
January 3, 201114 yr I expect 'Up' probably got a few hundred sales after the performance of it on 24/7. Same with 'Ego', which re-entered the top 100 twice after Headlines was released.
January 4, 201114 yr Maybe it might be like up (312k) Ego (310k) ? I think Ego will overtake Up Soon as ego re-enters the top 200 sometimes ego #520 on Itunes.
January 4, 201114 yr oh go no. ego is their worst song last update of up was in the beginning of 2009, so i think that up is now 315-320k
January 4, 201114 yr oh go no. ego is their worst song last update of up was in the beginning of 2009, so i think that up is now 315-320k It really isn't. 312,000 people don't think it is ;)
January 4, 201114 yr Yeah i think Ego is their best selling single but only because it was promoted better as they were better knowing imo and their album sold wayyyy less. Missing You should be on around 192k+ and it's currently at #250 and #888.. on Itunes. Headlines should reach 200k within the next 2-3months. Higher depending on this weeks sales could reach 300k but i think it will be on around 275k + ?
January 4, 201114 yr eventually Higher will pass 300,000 but it will be a slow climb, perhaps reached by the time a Greatest Hits album (which will inevitably follow the next album) drops. Missing You will reach 200,000 by the end of the tour - if it hasn't already. Its selling around 400 copies per week at is confirmed to have sold over 192,000 copies so it shouldnt take long and im sure it will be a central performance in the headlines tour. Headlines should cross the 150,000 mark this week, so the tour could potentially help it reach 200,000, failing that they could do it with tour sales, and then a price slash. The Wanted have their album at £4.99 in HMV less than 2 months after its release!
January 5, 201114 yr According to Jay at DenDen; Ego is now on 312,000 and is therefore they're best selling single to date :D I would this to be true, as for me ego is by far their best single and it was the song that really made me notice the saturdays.
January 5, 201114 yr However Up Sales have not been updates so Up may be on amount the same.. but Ego is hanging around on itunes.. uhhh i wantt to know! But there is no doubt that Ego will become there best selling single unless Higher somehow does brilliant. Edited January 5, 201114 yr by lee wallace
