Posted January 3, 201114 yr Given that the OCC clearly had the work experience teenagers operating the adding machines on Boxing Day, and the embarrassment they've suffered with the consequent mistakes in the charts, do we think they will risk getting people in to work on Christmas Day this year, to produce the Christmas charts? They'll be under enormous pressure to get it right next time. Maybe the charts of Sunday 18th will be declared the Christmas charts instead? How many times have the charts been released on Christmas Day so far? Chig
January 3, 201114 yr Hi Chig (is this who I think it is?) I think they will have to do it, I'm not sure anyone will listen to it on Christmas day but they haven't skipped a chart week in years, and calling the chart week the week before would surely mess everything up...
January 3, 201114 yr From what I remember they'll have even less time to make sure it's right. I think the last time the chart was announced on Christmas Day (2006) the number one was announced on TOTP, i.e. just before 15.00.
January 3, 201114 yr Author Hi Chig (is this who I think it is?) Well, I don't know who you think it is, so I find that impossible to answer. ;) If I am who I think you think I am, then yes. I thought our chart chat might reach a more 'niche' audience if we had it on here instead of facebook.

I think the last time the chart was announced on Christmas Day (2006) the number one was announced on TOTP, i.e. just before 15.00.It was 2005, not 2006 when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday. Since the new chart first began to be announced on a Sunday in October 1987, Christmas Day has fallen on a Sunday just three times, 1988, 1994 and 2005. In 1988 the new chart was announced a day late, on Monday December 26, with both 1994 and 2005 having the chart announced on Christmas Day itself. I'd imagine Radio 1 will stick to announcing the chart on the day itself this year rather than postponing it for one day as they did in 1988.
January 4, 201114 yr That's going to be fun on Xmas Day, dilemma time, do you come online and listen to the chart or eat your Xmas dinner with your family and friends. hmmm... :drama:
January 4, 201114 yr i remember the xmas day chart in 2005 clearly.ididnt come on here but listened to radio 1(think it was wes) and was disgusted as nizlopi were beaten by shayne ward.just remember my ma shouting at me to come and eat my dinner!! will be good this year, alot of xmas songs should enter and not disappear like this year after xmas day sales!!
November 19, 201113 yr Bumping this because it seems that the X Factor final is on December 10th/11th at Wembley, with the winners single obviously on sale immediately afterwards and thus charting on Sunday 18th December. But I'm assuming we'll still have the actual xmas chart on Sunday 25th December? So the X Factor winner will be trying to get the xmas #1 on their second week in the chart? :o Makes them far more vulnerable than usual, would be nice for other contenders to crawl out of the woodwork quickly to try and capitalise!
November 19, 201113 yr It's hope that the Nirvana campaign gets a lot more support. Enough to topple the X Factor off the Xmas No1. Is it possible?
November 19, 201113 yr Maybe. I'm shocked that Simon Cowell has let this happen, perhaps he got the dates mixed up and assumed that the chart on the 18th will be the xmas chart? The winner usually drops to about 150-200k on week two don't they? Granted it could be a bit higher due to post xmas stocking filler purchases but then physicals are close to being dead anyway now so I doubt it will make that much of a difference. Considering the likes of One Direction and Professor Green have opened with sales north of 150k recently with regular non-charity/event singles, it would be amazing to see a genuine big hit released that week and snatch the xmas #1 spot on merit alone. No X Factor, no engineered campaigns, just a genuine deserving hit song which won't drop away like it has a brick attached to it after xmas.

November 19, 201113 yr http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=135076 Completely missed that topic. Makes the xmas chart far more exciting this year than usual though, hopefully the X Factor winner's single will drop off more quickly than usual and we'll actually see a genuine battle again.

Makes the xmas chart far more exciting this year than usual though, hopefully the X Factor winner's single will drop off more quickly than usual and we'll actually see a genuine battle again. Maybe Cowell will delay the physical release a week, in order to hold back some sales for a stronger challenge on Xmas week itself?

I find it inconceivable that somebody as media savvy as Cowell simply didn't realise. Up to now the entire X-Factor format has been geared to getting the Christmas no.1. Love him or loathe him, he knows what he is doing.....

Love him or loathe him, he knows what he is doing..... Apart from series 1 where they released the single the week after Christmas. I really get the feeling Cowell/the XF producers have just decided to stop directly targeting the Christmas chart. I have high hopes the single being released a week earlier will mean Nirvana can repeat Xmas 2009. Edited November 20, 201113 yr by Bré
November 20, 201113 yr I'm thinking maybe Cowell foresaw a drop in popularity for the show and decided to release a week earlier to guarantee there would be no repeat of the end of 2009. I mean he only had to look at the blandness of this year's contestants to come to that conclusion. Nirvana for XMAS #1 and to sell a million! B)
November 20, 201113 yr The X Factor final is a week earlier becuase Wembley Arena was already booked for Saturday the 17th as White Lies are playing there that night.
