What do the numbers next to the artists mean? For Example Lady Gaga 7+6?

You do the sum to get their position in that chart. So if it said 5+5, it means they're at #10.

Don't worry, it took me months to work out too.

Infact, once I was following the "Almost Saturday" charts when listening to the actual chart show, and most of the positions were correct, and there was nothing that was massively out. Don't know if it's usually that accurate, or if I just got lucky.

To be honest, we can all make them relatively easily. They're essentially Saturday midweeks, all you need to do is look at the midweeks for the week and see if anything has climbed on iTunes on Friday....

Yes, the top 30 or so is nearly always accurate, but the 41-75 section and any new entries from 31-40 that weren't in the mids seem to be complete guesses. Obviously it's impossible to make them accurate though as the official information isn't available outside the top 40 95% of the time.

As a side-note: "Your Song" could become the first song in 10 years to sell 50K for 8 consecutive weeks this week.

did eminem/rihanna not do this during the summer?

I think they almost did, but narrowly missed out. :(

deserved it though, cracking tune!!

thought ellie would have fallen after xmas but shes holding up well.though it will certainly start falling down the chart now no matter what!!

Yeah, it would've been nice if they managed it.

Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars also did it for 7 weeks, I think.

Really hate January, and the annual 'Sound of...' hype. All the media desperate to give the new year an identity ASAP, so they throw all the hype onto some new artist releasing a single in January and proclaim that this artist will dominate the whole year. Examples from the last few years, Mika, Just Jack, Adele, Lady Gaga, Owl City... none of whom apart from Gaga have turned out to dominate the subsequent year or anything like.

Now all the 2011 hype is on Jessie J, the report on the ITN News yesterday was ridiculous... yeah, it would just suit their 'narrative' for DILAD to go straight in at number one, which is why I'm delighted it probably now won't. 'Sound of 2011', don't make me laugh! :puke2:

Nothing important musically happens till around March anyway, I just write off the first two months of a year in anything.

To be fair, Mika had a pretty good year. Not as good as 2009 for Gaga, but still.

I agree with your last sentence. Well, sort of. 2010 was absolutely dreadful until about April time. I hope this year isn't as bad. :(

Also, there've been more overrated artists than Jessie J to emerge in the past few years, so I don't find this too bad. Plus, Price Tag is actually decent anyway. If someone is really hyped, but they make good music anyway, it's bearable, but when they don't, but everybody in the world worships them, it's really overwhelming tbh. :drama:

Well it'd be hard for it to go straight in at #1 given it's already been in the chart for six weeks after entering at #25.

^indeed bray, they had a good release strategy of releasing during a busy time but getting enough plays on radio and mtv to sustain it until they knew the post-xmas hype would come and keep her song in the chart!!
