It's actually quite good. I'd be surprised if it went to #1 on the Billboard just because I can't see its airplay been massive, but you never know.

I like the mini dubstep breakdown in the middle of the song, who produced it? My only problem with the track is that anybody could have put their vocals on it. It doesn't sound like a Britney track, it just sounds like big name producer FEATURING Britney Spears if that makes sense?

Yeah. As Tyler stated, it's already the most added song to radio in a day, in America ever. And I don't know if you're aware, but she's been working with Rusko on the album, however this track is produced by Dr Luke and Max Martin. Not sure if Rusko had a hand on this particular track or not, seeing as everyone seems to class it as just Dr Luke & Max Martin...

Hey, I've never commented before, just lurked. I think that this will definitely be a number 1 in America. Where I live in Atlanta, dubstep is fairly well known among teenagers (definitely more well known that grime), and europop is also gaining popularity. On top of that, a new Britney Spears song ensures a top-ten debut, and I think this is her best song in a few years. I don't think a number one debut would be unlikely here. I definitely think this will be dubstep's mainstream breakthrough in America. I hope it leads to more dubstep songs gaining mainstream popularity here. In the U.K., I think that this kind of song will be seen as unique. I see a debut at number 3 or 4 thanks, but possibly rising to number one in the second or third week.

I'm from Augusta! Used to live in Atlanta.

Haha, I guess Georgia must breed Britney Spears fans!

Oh yeah. I was gonna say, I didn't hear Britney rapping in this song!

Although, to be fair, dubstep isn't very well known in the US either. Both genres originated from the UK (London specifically).

Can somebody tell me what on earth 'dubstep' actually is? ISTM like one of those sub-genres that spontaneously appear, without anyone really knowing what it is...

Music that sounds like someone saying the word 'wob' repeatedly in a deep voice.

Well, in the charts recently, we've had I Need Air by Magnetic Man, Perfect Stranger by Magnetic Man and Katy B, Katy On a Mission by Katy B and Skream's remix of In For the Kill. Those are the only high-selling dubstep songs so far, so if you've heard them, that might give you an idea of what it sounds like. Oh, and Me & You by Nero and Limit To Your Love by James Blaker.

However, none of those songs aren't really "pure" dubstep though. Just dubstep influenced.

If you take away Katy B's vocals KOAM is pure dubstep. It's just a Benga instrumental with Katy B's vocals over the top of it.

Not everything Benga makes is pure dustep though. I mean, he's part of Magnetic Man, and I Need Air is obviously not pure dubstep.

Although I heard Katy B saying on the radio that Katy On a Mission was a "dubstep song in it's own right" before she put her lyrics on the track.

I don't know a whole lot about dubstep, but a friend of mine who's been listening to it for years, was criticizing me for listening to chart music, so I played him all the dubstep songs in the charts, and he said Katy On a Mission is "almost dubstep", whatever he meant by that.

Also, is anybody else finding they constantly mis-type "dubstep" as "bubstep" or "budstep" and have to keep going back to change it?

I think the instrumental was just a Benga song called On A Mission. I don't think it was made exclusively for Katy B.

And while Benga doesn't only make dubstep '[Katy] On A Mission' is definitely dubstep.

INA, PS and Me & You are not 'pure' dubstep and I wouldn't really call LTYL dubstep at all, it's more minimal/ambient.

EDIT: It was called 'Man On A Mission':

This one has been on YouTube a few months longer than the Katy B version

Which leads me to the question - was Doom's Night by Azzido Da Bass (UK top ten hit in 2000) early dubstep, because that 'word/noise' for the bassline was the whole basis of that song.

Back onto Britney, or in this case Dr Luke and Max Martin - I've come to the conclusion that they MUST be the most on the ball songwriters/producers living right now. Everytime a new sound is coming through, they're first to move the pop superstars along with it and can change their sound effortlessly. Compare that to the likes of Timbaland and David Guetta who define 2007 and 2009's 'sounds' but in 2011 they don't sound so fresh - you wonder if they'd have the know how/courage to move into dubstep sounds like Luke/Martin have. Whenever a big revolutionary pop smash comes out that sounds nothing like anything that's gone before it, in commercial terms, it's almost always these two (or one of them at least) behind it :o

I don't think dubstep even had a name in 2000  But yeah, it could be early dubstep as the sound has been around since the late 90s

James Blake is probably the best example of what dubstep should sound like.

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music invented by Britney Spears. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals".[1]

Well, I've heard those, but not sure I'm really much the wiser. :P

To me, if I enjoy a piece of music, that it - I don't need to know all the complexities of beat/rhythm etc...
