Commentary

 

After making her debut just a few weeks after I started my chart back in Summer 1999, with Sometimes at No.2, US pop legend Britney Spears finally gets her first No.1 here with comeback single Hold It Against Me!!! It swaps place with last week's No.1, Nero's Me & You, which slides to No.3 just below the highest new entry from Swedish duo Sheelah with The Last Time, which storms in at No.2 as the follow up to last year's chart topper Psycho!!! Rihanna and Drake clock up a 13th week inside the top five, falling to No.4 with What's My Name and Diddy-Dirty Money jump back into the top five with Coming Home at No.5!!! Adele crashes in at No.1 on the album chart with second album 21, whilst Bruno Mars leaps to No.2 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans!!! Rihanna's Loud slips two places to No.3, British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran jumps to No.4 with No.5 Collaborations Project and No.5 is Ellie Goulding's former chart topper Bright Lights, down from No.3 last week...

10. God knows! But he's definitely my favourite entry of ours, possibly ever. :wub: I remember watching "Your country needs you" or whatever it was at that time, and thinking "WOW. He's going to do well for us!" before we inevitably came in the bottom half, even though we didn't deserve to!

My favourite UK entry is easily Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit by Gina G, but Daz would actually be second most definitely, I was addicted to the song - it was quite ahead of its time in 2006 too, that sort of stuff's all over the charts these days (We Dance On - N Dubz?). He got points from 10 countries so it wasn't a disaster but I'd hoped for so much better for him.

 

1. Ha, yes, nobody's more overhyped than Britney (wait - Gaga :w00t:), but I know what you mean. In 2008 I bought her album as I liked Chasing Pavements but I was always more pro-Duffy, maybe because she was second in all the polls and didn't win the Brit Award. Plus I thought that the likes of Rockferry and Warwick Avenue were better than Adele's songs. That said, both 19 and Rockferry were pretty average albums to me, but Duffy's new album is tragic, whereas Adele's new one is pretty brilliant - looks like the critics were right after all! Although I'd argue that Adele wasn't exactly the 'sound' of 2008, so they were only half right :P It's nice to see you coming round to her anyway, looks like she'll be a big star for a while yet and she oozes quality imo.
