I find danish and especially swedish music really good. I guess, many scandi-bands are inspired alot by british music which is basically why I love many of them. But oh god, The pop artists - besides Robyn - are usually horrendus.- at least in Denmark. Don't know much about norwegian and finnish music. Norway is pretty much nothing but heavy-mega-extreme-ultra-death metal.. I know Finland has a lot of those bands too. But I do know Magenta Skycode which I entered in the BJ and absolutely love it. Maybe SKOB can add some great finnish bands for you? :)

Some of my favorite danish bands:

VETO - Duck, Hush and be Still

TURBOWEEKEND - Now

Kill Screen Music - The Sand Is Washing Us Away

Agnes Obel-Riverside

The Rumour Said Fire - The Balcony

he William Blakes - Caves and Light

Sorry but Finland is not a part of Scandinavia :D

Anyway...Swedish indeed are very good in making pop music and also singer-songwriter stuff.. The Knife, Lykke Li. Norway has produced some amazing electropop, Annie for example.

Some Finnish ones:

Villa Nah

Disco Ensemble

Rubik

Magenta Skycode

Sister Flo

All these are sort of universal indie stuff. If you wish to hear something that can be labeled as Finnish (language, musical style etc) just let me know.

To answer your question, the best thing about Finnish music is that it's so dark in here that the melancholy comes naturally.. And if we're talking about bands like Magenta Skycode it's a great thing. But we have no talent in making pop music whatsoever because we don't have the cultural history of successful pop acts. This is the country of rock.

Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Denmark - Nordic Nations

Norway, Sweden, Denmark - Scandinavia, btw.

From what little I know, Sweden has quite a healthy and varied music scene. How many countries could have produced a pop group as successful as Abba and still have a band who describe themselves as "the pioneers of melodic death metal" (In Flames) scoring #1 albums regularly?

Norway: Röyksopp, Biosphere, Apoptygma Berzerk, Bel Canto, Anneli Drecker, Annie, a-ha, Kate Havnevik, diskJokke, Kings of Convenience

Sweden: The Knife, Fever Ray, Robyn, Lykke Li, The Field, Little Dragon, Solar Fields, Sally Shapiro, Emmon, The Radio Dept., Roxette, Kent, Kleerup, The Sounds, The Cardigans, Ace of Base, Miike Snow, Thermostatic

Denmark: Trentemøller, Mew, The Raveonettes, Blue Foundation, Junior Senior

(I know all these artists)

The amount of swedish balearic pop bands is frightening. jj, ceo/The Tough Alliance, Nordpolen, Air France, Days, The Embassy, The Bridal Shop, The Radio Dept., Kalle J, Studio, The Honeydrips, AVNER, Gentle Touch, Lake Heartbeat, Korallreven, Boat Club, Pallers, The Sound Of Arrows, Fibes Oh Fibes. I could go on?

I live for Swedish music, and not just the cheesy pop side but a number of the acts mentioned by alin and Harve, and the Northern Swedish electro/dance scene, such as;

Norway have Susanne Sundfør, who is absolutely amazing and probably one of my favourite Nordic artists. Her album is on iTunes - I strongly recommend it! :D

Katzenjammer are also Norwegian, and are on-par with Susanne Sundfør. Also available on iTunes. :) Gåte too, but they're more folky metal.

Sweden has so many good artists, I don't even know where to begin! :/ If you like the more jazzy pop, you should listen to Veronica Maggio.

Denmark have the likes of Nephew, Stoffer og Maskinen and Trentemøller.

The Faroe Islands have Valravn, who are great!

Aaaaaaah i love this track

The Nordic nations rarely put a foot wrong musically, they are the best places for music right now with the UK and US charts being so bleh and full of tracks that sound the same or are complete $h!te.

I must add another great Swedish singer to the list, Tove Styrke. She was a contestant on Swedish Idol 2009 but ended up in third place. Last year, Tove released the excellent self-titled debut album. In my opinion it's the second best pop album of 2010 (after "Body Talk" by Robyn). So, if you like some good electropop music, check her music. On a side note, Tove is by far the best looking Swedish singer. :)
