Ok so am I just imagining it or are Radio 1 OBSESSED with playing 'Weightless' by All Time Low? I seem to hear it played every other day, as if it was on the A-list, even though the track is months old and as far as I know it never even charted. I just find it weird how often they play it compared to other songs, even playlisted songs. Any idea why this track gets so much rotation? Radio 1 seem to get obsessed by a track every now and again, I remember about 10 years ago, they played 'Heard It All Before' by Sunshine Anderson for months after it was playlisted, and then a couple of years later the same happened with 'Blurry' by Puddle of Mudd. Recently they also seem to be obsessed with that Pendulum track they keep playing. I wish they'd play other older tracks as much as they play these!

I've no idea how accurate Radio 1's Last.fm account is, but 'Weightless' is not in their top 500 most played songs of the last 3 months, and you only need 5 plays to make it....

Edit: For some reason my search function isn't working properly, and it's actually been played 22 times. When was it released?

They love playing songs from bands like them, Lostprophets, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, 30STM and a few I cannot remember. They usually also play Kids In Glass Houses' 'Matters At All'.

I think it's some sort of a weird habit, or it is what the listeners wanted, despite many of them being non-Top 40s.

'Weightless' was released back in 2009, just B-listed. I'm thinking the Top 75 success of 'Lost In Stereo' lead them to re-release 'Weightless' last autumn (now reaching the A-list).

Radio 1 is awful

Rational.

I'm not complaining, I love "Weightless" and I think it was just one of those songs that Radio 1 wanted to give a push because it was never quite the hit it could have been. Now, All Time Low have a new album out soon so they'll probably keep playing it now and again until the new single premieres.

The problem with Radio 1 is that they play the same old $h!te all the time, even if it flopped badly. Its like they cant admit a song they thought would be big is a flop

Not always true. Im sure they barely played Shakira - Hips Dont Lie after it was a massive number 1. I remember one of the DJs saying it wasnt 'their' thing

I have heard All Time Low quite a lot on there too.

Radio 1 is run by a lot of youngish people who want to think they are cool and trendy so a lot of the music they like gets on the playlist because they think thats cool and trendy too. My prime example is the fact about 7 singles from one Biffy Clyro all got playlisted despite Biffy only being a minor band who had not really had any big success.

You can also tell that some DJs influence the playlist as they play these little know indie songs and rave about them, Fearne Cotton and Greg James being examples.

Obviously there's exceptions but that's four and a half years ago and tbh I'd be surprised if "Hips Don't Lie" wasn't even playlisted :S

Since when were Biffy a 'minor' band?

Yes you have summed it up like I wanted to but Im not good with words and stuff! Its like you wrote what was in my brain!

How are Biffy Clyro a minor band exactly? Radio 1 have decided to support Biffy on the basis of their popularity, hence all 7 singles were playlisted. Seems fair enough to me. If the same had been done to Rihanna or Katy Perry I doubt there would be any complaints.

Wasnt 'All Time Low' given a re-release a few months back? I agree, they do often play it though. But I cant help but feel that Radio 1 just cant do anything right in some peoples eyes. Were now just trying to find things to pick holes in.

I prefer Kiss anyway! I only listen the chart on R1, and sometimes Switch. Oh and I tune into Reggie's Saturday show sometimes, dunno why cos he's annoying!

The reason I dislike Radio 1 is because they talk too much and most of the stuff they talk about is $h!te.

Kiss is brilliant  OK they have adverts but the music more than makes up for it

Which one is it?

Really its a combo of both hun, if they arent chatting $h!te, they are playing some rubbish. When it was on at work the other day there was about 2 songs I enjoyed

And there was a period of about 20 minutes where some awful DJ was just blabbing about crap. It was so painful :(

My manager has started putting on Heart now though. I dont know which is worse.

TBH, if it wasn't for Radio 1, I wouldn't really appreciate some of the type of music lately, and my music taste wouldn't be weird.

Maybe try open up your mind a little bit more, Shelli. :)
