Maybe not very 'inspired' but much more so than those repetitive rap collaborations all based around winning formulas and famous producers.

Anyway, it's just my opinion.

Alex Da Kid is British, actually. Coming Home, Love the Way You Lie, I Need a Doctor, Airplanes, Castle Walls, etc. are all produced by home-grown talent! They're British, to the core!

Alex Da Kid isn't really that famous. He only got into the mainstream last year. The only reason he's so famous now is because he keeps making masterpiece, after masterpiece (even if they all sound the same ).

And I would not call Skylar Grey "a lady". Again, she's more than "a lady". I'm already considering Skylar Grey borderline deity, if I'm completely honest.

After one (painfully average at best) or two songs? :o

It's like a hype around a certain Nicki Minaj whose speciality is being featured on countless completely unknown in Europe tracks and she's already being portrayed as a sort of diva, lol.

I mean, come on guys. Let us not be like 15-year old chavs who follow and praise whatever comes from America.

His opinion?

Fair enough.

Alex Da Kid is a great producer, not quite on par with Timbaland, Pharrel, David Guetta, will.i.am or Dr. Dre yet, though. Those, imo, are some of the best producers.

She's done 4 songs which I love (Love the Way You Lie, Love the Way You Lie II, Coming Home and I Need a Doctor), and she's Holly Brook, apparently, so she's does even more under that name! I was exaggerating about the "borderline deity" bit though. I am starting to love her though!

Nicki Minaj IS amazing!! I admit, I wasn't too amazed after I heard Bedrock and 2012. But since then, Check It Out got me hooked on her (although will.i.am, another legendary producer, making it didn't hurt!), and I've listened to more of her songs, and I LOVE her. Her personality aswell. She's so fun and adorable. Watch some of her videos, or her interviews of something. She speaks with a British accent sometimes, too! :o Don't have a clue why. I don't think she's aware of it.

On that note, after watching the music video for Moment 4 Life, I have a LOT of respect for Drake.

Also, I'm not 15, and I'm not a chav. :)

But yeah, it's just our opinions though. I love the top 10, and Coming Home is my favourite song in it.

OK, I wasn't accusing Americans of anything! :D

The word 'American' was rather used symbolically in relation to the whole r&b originating and smashing there the most. I find peculiar when the whole world is blindly buying everything what's hot out there leaving behind some valuable very often home-grown artists who tend to be different than anything else. Alex Da Kid may be a hitmaker but I wouldn't call his productions original by any means hence a word "masterpiece" sounds funny to me in this context but I fully respect your musical taste appreciating the enthusiasm that accompanies your posts. Your ways of expressing and proving the point of view along with your interest in finding details are truly remarkable, I must admit. :)

Well, to be honest, I feel like asking exactly the same question as you did a couple of minutes before:

"what the hell is this chap talking about?!" Timbaland, Pharrell and David Guetta as the best producers?

I guess we won't gain any further agreement in a music related discussion, no matter what are efforts are. :D

Oh, sorry then. I thought you were having a go at US music, rather than the genre.

Also, I was exaggerating when I said "masterpiece" too. Again, I do really, really like his songs, and it makes it even better that he works with artists that I love (Rihanna, T.I., Eminem, etc.), but "masterpiece" is a bit strong.

I'm not too bothered about it, because I love the music, but if it was a load of rock songs that were getting in the charts in the UK, just because they get popular in the US, I'd probably be just as annoyed about it as you are now, to be honest.

I think, especially with the Internet, the UK are so much more exposed to the US music scene. Numerically, the UK is really drowned out by the US, so when we use sites like youtube, facebook, etc, US music sort of "takes over", so to speak.

A good example is S&M. It's not released until April in the UK, but because its video has recently been released on the Internet, in order to promote it in the US, for its earlier release there, all us British people, who share the Internet with Americans, have seen the video too, and as a result, the song is increasing sharply in sales, 2 months before its release.

One thing that does annoy me is how some massive European songs don't do well here though (before anyone mentions Only Girl and S&M, I'm talking about European songs, originating in Europe ). But I love the US hip hop, so I'm fine with that.

Alex Da Kid is fantastic! As is Skylar Grey! Eric, have you heard Lupe Fiasco's new song with Skylar (produced by Alex Da Kid), 'Words I Never Said'? The production is inasane! ADK best produced song, imo.

Avril climbing pretty nicely now! :D

Oh and 'River Deep, Mountain High' holding on very nicely in the top 40! :o (At 29) (I was thinking it'd be 10 or so places lower by now!)

Just listened to that 'I Need A Doctor' for the first time and I am pleasantly suprised. Really like the chorus actually but I don't really see much of a strong voice on this Skylar Grey tbh.
Well, to be honest, I feel like asking exactly the same question as you did a couple of minutes before:

"what the hell is this chap talking about?!" Timbaland, Pharrell and David Guetta as the best producers?

Timbaland = phenomenal beats.

Pharrel = Genius, imo.

David Guetta = All of his songs are anthemic, brilliant tunes, brilliant beats...brilliant everything. He also knows who to use for vocals. Every artist has been perfect for his songs.

will.i.am = Great producer, not on par with the others though, imo. He knows how to make a HUGE hit, though. That's for sure.

Dr. Dre = Most of Eminem's stuff has been produced by Dre......enough said.

I edited my post adding will.i.am, so you didn't notice him....I'm glad you didn't include Dr. Dre in your post...he's the 2nd best of the bunch imo, behind David Guetta.

Also, I said "what the hell is this chap talking about?" because saying Coming Home, Airplanes, Love The Way You Lie aren't good songs is quite silly, imo. They're amazing.

I guess we won't gain any further agreement in a music related discussion, no matter what are efforts are. :D

Probably not, no.

I saw it earlier on their wikipedia articles, but it said it wasn't released yet, so I didn't bother to look for it. I'm listening to it now!!! So epic! Sound like I Need a Doctor and Love the Way You Lie, Part II. I wouldn't be half surprised if I discovered its the same beats in each song with different instruments. I think Skylar sounds a bit like Ellie Goulding in that song, actually. Thanks. :D I'll probably listen to this all day tommorrow now.

Also, anybody find it weird that on Dr. Dre's single, Alex Da Kid produces it, and Eminem does 2 of the 3 rap verses? I love Dre, obviously, but we all know he could've contributed a bit more to the song!!!! :D

I heard Dre didn't actually write any of this song either... :\ Wonder why...

I don't think Dr. Dre is much of a writer.....he usually produces songs and sings what others write for him, I think....:/

This time though, he obviously didn't do much work on the song

Still, it's a brilliant song, that's all that matters.

There's nothing silly about being sincere. They may appeal to a teenage audience without big expectations. Typical mainstream with catchy chorus, simple lyrics, radio-friendly production that you can sing after the first listen and then recycle to a next clone with another rapper on board. Such a throwaway urban pop... what's so amazing about it?

In all honesty, Dr. Dre or Will.i.am still represent a rap crap for me so I can't classify them as good producers. This whole genre sucks so even though production at times may be decent, it's usually overshadowed by dumb lyrics and stupid talking (Eminem is no exception). I don't deny the talent they may have however the hits they delivered are far from amazing. David Guetta used to have good ideas in the past (the fabulous collaboration with the Egg for instance) but since teaming up with urban starlets, he's lowered his creativity and recently has become predictable and repetitive. His productions sound cheap and cheesy at times (Who's That Chick). Timbaland is the master in recycling. All his beats are almost identical. These producers are bound to make hits, not reinvent music. Praising them is like saying that Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears are credible singers...

The iTunes thread is now mine :)

Jessie J has shown how well the radio premiere and straight to download works.

I don't agree with you at all, marcin.

Imo, David Guetta, Eminem, Dr Dre, will.i.am & Timbaland (Pharrel too) all make brilliant beats. Who's That Chick's instrumental is amazing....as are most of David Guetta's. The others make great beats and are a credit to rap/rnb/hip hop. Music wouldn't be the same without them.
