How can anyone *not* be able to rap - all it is is normal speech, with a few extra naughty words thrown in. ;)

You're using the same argument as people who claim all metal is 'just noise'. Rapping is as valid a part of music as singing, screaming, growling, etc etc.

Rapping is different to singing (and talking) in many ways. Firstly, when you're rapping, you have to write FAR more lyrics to fill up a 4 minute song, or whatever. In singing songs, you can drag a word out for like 5 seconds, but with rapping, you need to be fitting like 10 words in 5 seconds, or something.

 

Plus, there's the rhyming and syllables. I find it amazing how some rappers, they can have two sentences, where nearly every syllable rhymes, and it all makes sense, in the context of the song. A lot of singers also rhyme, but they don't have to always, and they usually only have to rhyme the last syllable of the phrase.

 

e.g. From No Love by Eminem and Lil Wayne (which, btw, I find literally CRIMINAL that it didn't even go top 20!!), something like this:

 

slow - the momentum at any moment I'm 'bout to blow

flow - the slow venom an' the opponent is gettin' no

 

slow = flow

the = the

momentum = slow

momentum = venom

at = an'

any = the

moment = opponent

I'm = is (sort of, if we push it :lol:)

gettin' = to

blow = no

 

And have you seen how long the verse is in that song, and how fast he raps!! :o I can't fathom how rappers can do that for a whole song tbh. I think it's amazing, personally. Shakespeare (oh, I rhymed "glass" with "grass") has nothing now. :lol:

Yeah, it's fallen down to #12. :( To be fair though, Blind Faith is at #11, which is also an amazing song! And even if I Need a Doctor was #11, it still would have NO chance at top 10 anytime soon, so it makes me feel less bad, I guess.
