August 19, 201113 yr I'm feeling the same...really didn't think she'd go down the Dr Luke/Stargate route whatsoever. Even the recent artwork suggests a more alternative sound, which seems odd considering with who she's been working with! With someone such as herself you really have to WONDER what her label/herself (because one of them must have pushed for it expected of the ARTISTIC, MUSIC, PERSONAL REPRESENTATION such a move would cause. I still find it jarring. Perhaps it'll be a TIMBALAND TO FURTADO moment? Though in all honesty I expect a JESSIE-J NAY PRICE TAG sort of moment/album/reality...
August 19, 201113 yr So she's abandoned Kurstin, Stannard, Howe and Gabriel? Such a shame as Greg did great job with Foster the People. I do like Dr. Luke, especially his work with Kesha, but he's more of a hit or miss. She's not really abandoning Greg Kurstin, she only worked with him on one song which was recorded as a one off after the album was finished. The comments about the artwork are ridiculous in this thread. It's not meant to be some technical example of what people can do in photoshop, it's obviously trying to be reminiscent of those 70s American daytime tv programmes, hence the quality of the image, the crappy font and where it's placed. As for her working with Dr Luke and Stargate... it could be terrible but it could be pretty amazing too. I doubt she would go into recording with these types of producers without a clear idea of what she wanted to get out of them. And people are sort of making out like this is the Arctic Monkeys going to work with Dr Luke, but in reality ee're talking about Marina and she's so POP! She may be in the indie forum but IMO she's totally pop - her lyrics and melodies were especially pop. And she's someone who is obviously fascinated / obsessed with pop culture and pop stars - her old blog (which she deleted) included extensive ramblings about Shakira and Britney. It seems only natural that she would try out these producers, even as some sort of study of this culture, just as her lyrics study pop culture. And I was just listening to ET and the melody is something that I could totally imagine Marina singing. However, if this album turns into a Price Tag production, I will officially disown Marina.

But why would any reference that? If you look at other retro album covers - Pulp's Different Class for example - it is done with some wit. Retro for the sake of it can be rubbish.
August 20, 201113 yr Does anyone have any PROOF of this Stargate MURMUR as I can't find anything online and if it is true it'll be a GRAND EXCEPTION to their entire discography....
August 20, 201113 yr Does anyone have any PROOF of this Stargate MURMUR as I can't find anything online and if it is true it'll be a GRAND EXCEPTION to their entire discography.... From the popjustice interview: "I’ve been working with Dr Luke, Stargate, and I’ve learned SO much."
August 20, 201113 yr But why would any reference that? From the popjustice interview: Okay, well that’s like a really 70s thing, it’s set in the desert... I just think every artist always has something at the core of them that fascinates them and inspires them. In the beginning I had exactly the same thought - “oh God, I’m still inspired by America, I don’t want to make ‘Hollywood Pt II’”. And it’s not like that. I’m just really inspired by that topic and that culture and I think I always will be. It’s kind of like how every longterm artist always has a thread running through their image, or their lyrics, and that’s mine. America.
August 20, 201113 yr I don't like the artwork. It doesn't look artsy, it doesn't look 'cool', it looks try hard and, paradoxically, tacky. It doesn't look try hard enough. It's tacky.
August 20, 201113 yr Loving that artwork and Fear and Loathing. Really looking forward to this era. I always find that I enjoy someone's music more when I have that build up beforehand (unless the music is actually really crap).
August 22, 201113 yr The new single just premiered on Radio 1. Get this thread out of Alternative and into Pop or Dance this INSTANT, it's a poppers o'clock club anthem!
August 22, 201113 yr Damn! I missed it by a few minutes. :( Reaction seems very positive anyway so I can't wait to hear it!
August 22, 201113 yr Wow! :o Very different to what I was expecting! It has a very nice melody and doesn't sound too far a typical European dance hit. It sounds as if Marina is a guest vocalist on one of them  LOVE IT
August 22, 201113 yr Not getting this but that's not really a surprise seeing as it's that close to Europop.
August 22, 201113 yr I love this. Great lyrics...the best her voice has ever sounded too. Her pipes can divide opinion but she sounds great on this...she's really singing out. I hope she gets a hit...she's so ambitious and a hard worker. I know she found the way her last album was handled torture. The guy is fit too! Edited August 22, 201113 yr by slimane12
August 22, 201113 yr WOAH. Sounds like a dance remix of a 'usual' Marina song. Must say I'm rather loving it, even if the direction she seems to be going in is completely different to what I imagined.
