On the Burger Queen tour she performed Jealousy as a "new" song, so I'm guessing it'll be on the second album.

I don't think we'll have a second album from Marina until 2012. I know she was pretty happy that the Family Jewels era was over but I doubt she'll be rushing anything out. An EP or something would be nice in the near future.

I'm happy with the success the Family Jewels had. I'm glad Marina never used any gimmicks to sell herself. I feel like she presented herself and her music the way she wanted it to be presented. As much as I like Ellie and Florence, neither of them would be as big as they are without releasing a cover.

Poor girl. She's in a very similar position to Little Boots (sodding 679...) except she has the benefit of at least not having had the expectations of first. Still, given the amount of hype she had I imagine this album is pretty much her last shot - an album which performed pretty much identically to Hands, except she didn't even get the benefit of the fairly big Remedy style hit that the public in general might recall. Definitely one for the low-profile indie labels in the future I think, sadly, even though Oh No! should've really been the track that made her a proper Lily Allen size star.
I disagree. I think she was slightly more successful than Little Boots (albums wise, for sure. Also singles actually, all her singles reached the top 40 - bar 'Shampain', even though like you stated, none were 'Remedy' sized huge) but I don't know whether that's just because the hype Little Boots received was far bigger and therefore making it seem like she flopped harder? :unsure: Also, she seems to be a big gig seller (and she's Katy Perry's support act for half her US tour). So I'm not sure whether this album will be her last shot really. Well at least I hope not anyway. :lol: 679 really are an awful label to deal with launching popstars careers, aren't they? :lol:

Both Hands and Family Jewels only got gold and had TERRIBLE chart runs - both debuted at 5, had fairly sizeable falls the next week, and recovered mildly (mid-20s?) upon the release of subsequent singles. In any case, it isn't saying much to say all of Marina's singles bar Shampain went top 40 - bar Earthquake, all of Little Boots' singles went top 15! :lol:

Does anybody have any idea how well Little Boots did when touring? Did she even DO a proper tour?

Haha. Fair point! Although 'Earthquake' most certainly didn't go top 15 :heehee: Looking back their runs must be quite similar! :o

Little Boots 'Hands'

{5}-40-57-47-43-66-63-52-34-34-25-25-23-27-33-45-59-81-> 18 Weeks (Top 100)

Marina & The Diamonds 'The Family Jewels'

{5}-16-39-48-58-61-51-36-31-31-40-49-63-69-76-86-88-87-54-72-85-81-47-36-38-55-74-73-79-100(R2)-96-99-98-> 33 Weeks (Top 100)

OK. Maybe not THAT similar. :lol: But the chart run suggests that Marina wiped the floor with Little Boots. But we need up-to-date sales info really. POOR BRAVE BOOTS.

Also we need to remember that album sales as a whole were far worse in 2010 than in 2009...

Difference is that Little Boot's fans might be more pop orientated than Marina's. A lot of indie fans like Marina and the possibility of her cultivating a market there is stronger for her - if she chooses to go a bit weird.

Her second album could be a revelation.

Really cant wait for a new album from her. 'Family Jewels' was by quite some distance my favourite album of last year.

I dont think she did technically as bad as Boots though, purely on the basis that Boots had more hype and was on a year which featured artists who were huge in comparisments. I do hope Marina can get some more success next time round, but I dont think it'd be the end of the world for her.

From what I've seen though. She does kinda pissed she wasnt bigger.

LOVING these new demos. Might have just rekindled my love for her. Aah.

Those tracks are leftovers from the debut album, so it's unlikely they'll be on the next one (if there is one), so I'm not going to bother listening.

Why would you refuse to listen to songs just because they're not going to be on an album? Odd ~

She is amazing, how Ellie Goulding is doing better i'll NEVER know. :mellow:

The public like music that isn't difficult. Marina is more difficult than Ellie.

No, I'm not refusing to listen to them! :lol: I might listen to them in the near future, but can't be bothered currently. :P

THIS COMPLETELY TBQF.

Recording Elton John covers with a Victorian face, FLOUNCING around in videos wearing MoR hats and "having fun in everyday life" gets you far these days.

Marina = BABE4LYF

*sigh* so true

Quite, but how would they KNOW it was difficult? Songs like Hollywood, I Am Not A Robot and Oh No! are hardly INACCESSIBLE and up there with The Knife, are they?

Lyrically Marina has so much more than Ellie.

"So we burst into colors, colors and carousels,

Fall head first like paper planes in playground games

Next thing we're touching

You look at me it's like you hit me with lightning

Ahhhh"

SUCH DEEP MEANING?

And take ANY Marina's song. HUGE difference.

"What you're gonna be

It's not my problem if you don't see what I see

And I do not give a damn if you don't believe

My problem its my problem

That I never am happy

It's my problem, it's my problem

On how fast I will succeed"

Loon glasses OFF please.

:lol:

IMO I think they're popular more than enough when I think how bad their songs are...I don't care about the meaning of their lyrics, all I know is that none of their songs are catchy (bar Hollywood and Remedy) or get stuck in my head...Ellie is the worstest though.

Bitch please. Pretty much EVERY Marina's song has more or less deep meaning.

And you want to prove it wrong just by listing this one example?! If you wanna go there... *cough* Your Song ["Anyway the thing is... What I really mean... Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen."]
