Please don't hate me now but I like NSC a bit more than BJSC simply for the fact that the songs entered are much more varied and basically every song has at least a chance to qualify for the final.

You do see much more risk taking in NSC than in BJSC.

It's quite refreshing.

On another note, it is sorta nice taking part in both contests and knowing what does well in one won't necessarily do as well in the other. It keeps you more on your toes, stops you from recycling entries as much.

I sure did, last month! It came 20th in my semi with only 37 points :( I was so sure I'd qualify as that semi imo seemed fairly weak. But a lot of people are praising your choice this contest though, hearing about them for the first time, so I would still classiiy it a a clever/inspired choice :)

Why would we hate you for that? *whispers to everyone else to grab the pitchforks*

:kink:

We are looking into bringing back semi-finals, we just need the numbers back up for it to be viable. We lost a lot of the Indie bloc when Unknown Pleasures appeared, and once upon a time we had an RnB bloc that was reasonably powerful. The contest goes through cycles, so when we reach a change over period the number of different genre's entered is much higher.

Awww man, gutted.

Mind you, only a couple of people knowing my track is a marked improvement over my other option of Tone

I hope such a change will be coming sooner than later. ;)

Indeed :drama: But as mentioned earlier; there is a huge difference in what type of songs that do well in NSC compared to BJSC - so there is more likely Underwear will finish at the top of the scoreboard in here (hopefully )

And you're right. As much as you love Tone, she has been sent quite a few times.

I like BJSC more because of the overall song quality (matching my taste) and generally quite inspired song choices. You're right that there is greater diversity in terms of genres in NSC, but there is also a lot of cheap songs being sent there each month, which also manages to get through to the final and acchieving that top 10.

That's a big no-no :nono:

True but I can live with that cheapness if I get to discover some great unknown songs which there are at least 2 or 3 of in every edition of the contest. :)

I guess I'm guilty of sending something cheap myself this time.

I wouldn't call your entry cheap, I've never heard of the song before...

Oh, ok, I guess it's only in Germany then. You hear her everywhere here. :D

Not with that song, though.

Really? :o

She hasn't had any chart success here since her couple of top ten hits in 2003 when she was about 16/17!

This entry definitely isn't anywhere near cheap.

I didn't mean Amy Studt.

I was talking about my NSC entry which is Adele.

Amy Studt is basically unknown in Germany. :P

Oh!

I got confused because of Sabre's reply! Just noticed you're sending Set Fire To The Rain - would definitely be cheap for BJSC, but I guess NSC is different. You'll be up against some inspired competition in the form of Bruno Mars' Grenade and Britney's Hold It Against Me!

Yeah, I'm afraid Britney might win. :puke2:

Bruno Mars will get high points from me, though.

I'd ignore both of them if they were sent to BJSC, not that they'd ever be let past Silas and friends!

I don't think Grenade is all that in the first place though, so it wouldn't be getting points from me anyway  I seriously don't see what anybody's achieving by sending such songs to contests like these? I used to think songs that made the Radio 1 playlist were cheap enough, but seriously, Britney's worldwide #1 single/latest smash? Who's going to be first introduced to the song via an online competition?

Nobody, I guess.

I'm usually not sending such well known songs but in the rare case that I really like a popular artist I have to take advantage of that. :P

And if I really like a song, then I'm giving it points regardless of its popularity. It's allowed in the rules over there so I would find it unfair to deduct points for cheapness.

I expect a big rush for "Born This Way" after the confirmation for NSC 65 opens. :D

Edited by zechhh

If anyone tries to enter Born This Way into BJSC i will straight up ban them for eternity.

Rich is right, $h!t like that wouldn't make it past the mods, but we don't ban everything. Just things that we feel people would hear without the contest. The aim is to discover new music. Good, bad or indie aka terrible :kink: We haven't had to ban much at all, so it's been really good.

The only reason I deduct points for cheapness is because I'd be mortified if my points helped said song to win. I'd hardly have a just cause to moan about it if I was awarding it top marks!

Oh dear, I'd just die inside a little the moment I saw that on the confirmed entries list. Are there specific countries in NSC well known for sending uninspired tracks or do most people have their turn at doing so?
