Simple question, are there any songs out there that reduce you to tears or cause some sort of emotional response

in you?

Is it due to the production, the meaning or the way it is sung?

Lets discuss.

For me:

Alanis Morissette - Simple Together

Jennifer Lopez - Alive

There are more though :heehee:

The ones that make me most emotional are ones I love for a personal reason. That's Evanescence - My Immortal and Daniel Bedingfield - If You're Not The One mainly, but some Leona songs have been known to do it and Adele - Someone Like You makes me very soppy.

OH and Make You Feel My Love had that effect very recently.

It's nearly always to do with the lyrics as well, although obviously a good voice and strong production can help make a song feel so much better when you hear it. Certainly all of the songs above a little epic in that way.

sounds really stupid but viva forever by the spice girls makes me really sad. but more sad in that it just reminds me of how amazing being a kid was and makes me wish i could just do it all over again.
Leona Lewis - Run and Adele - Someone Like You, MYFML used to but I've gotten used to it now.

Of course there are songs that get to me emotionally, not that I burst down in tears when I hear one of these, but I do get emotional. There are not alot of songs that really get to me. The song needs to have it all... voice, meaning, lyrics, overall feeling.. etc.

Emmylou Harris - Sweet Old World (= about someone who killed suicide)

Emmylou Harris - A Love That Will Never Grow Old (lyrics = awesomeness)

Lucinda Williams - Lake Charles (= about a fatal car crash, so sweet and tender..)

Ryan Adams - Goodnight Hollywood Blvd (the vibe in this song is so sad)

Kanye West - Bad News

Bad News looks kinda odd to me when you put it next to the others, but that instrumental bit is so emotional.

OK that were 5.. a little too much maybe.

Oh dear

Adele - Someone Like You - only because I can relate to it at the moment

Tori Amos - Winter

Antony and the Johnsones - Hope There's Someone

The National - Runaway

Embrace - That's All Changed Forever

Th Flood - Cheryl Cole - Relates to an experience I had which was very hurtful and effected me greatly

The Writer - Ellie Goulding - Also relates to the above experience. Also I can feel her desperation

Lights - Ellie Goulding - Exactly how I felt at one on point

Human - Ellie Goulding - How I feel sometimes

Home - Ellie Goulding - He's got some really sad lyrics

Believe Me - Ellie Goulding - The same situation as The Flood and The Writer

Candle In The Wind(Orignal) - Elton John - Really sad for obvious reasons. The 97 one was not as well done though.

Notice - Diana Vickers - Relates to the same situation as The Flood,The Writer, and Believe Me

Once - Diana Vickers - Relates to a situation I was once in

All of the above make me very emotional if I am in the right mood. :(

Emmylou Harris - Sweet Old World (= about someone who killed suicide)

Emmylou Harris - A Love That Will Never Grow Old (lyrics = awesomeness)

This sounds like a bit of a pathetic one, but it's Puff Daddy & Faith Evans's 'I'll Be Missing You' which I played for ages after my cat died.:(

As cheesy as it sounds  songs from Titanic

My Heart Will Go On // Hymn To The Sea // Rose

Carrie Underwood - Temporary Home  video makes it more emotional.

Although I'm not very religious, All My Tears is probably the ultimate highlight of the album... If there's one because it's so solid. The way she sings it is just hauntingly beautiful

Julie Miller is genious just like Harris.

Sigur Ros- Hoppipolla

Johnny Cash- Hurt

Coldplay- The Scientist

and this sounds pathetic- but the song, Mandy as it brings back memories of when I was very young and had a babysitter, and it somehow reminded me of her at the time and I got quite emotional :snif:

Definitely Believe. It just brings back so many fantastic memories from that time in my life, and it makes me emotional. :) I Gotta Feeling will probably have that effect on me in the future to be honest, for similar reasons.

But there's LOTS of songs that make me cry/get emotional. I think I feel music more than the average person. Although a lot of ballads are just too boring for me to get emotional.
