but surely if they debut at no1 they do because they are popular and people are actually purchasing the song!!

It's more instant popularity than sustained though. I don't disagree with it, I just prefer the excitement of the BBHot100.

OMG is anyone watching graham norton - see what jessie j is wearing!!!!!!
How close is Rihanna to gaining a place?
Good to see Yeah 3x has had good longevity, considering songs like Higher, Tonight I'm F****n' You etc have all crack the top ten around the same time but all left in a hurry, I want to see Grenade leave the top ten, it seems like it's been in the charts forever now.

Isn't it rather inconsistant to praise 'Yeah 3x' for its longevity, yet use the very same reason to want rid of Grenade? ;)

Pleased to see Belle and Sebastian crack the top 200, didn't think they'd do that again. Are there any other mitigating factors that have caused them to rise so (apart from it being the current single?)
The Hot 100 has been much more exciting than usual recently though, especially at the top of the chart. It got a bit boring in terms of the #1s mid-2009! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hot_1..._of_2009_(U.S.)

Oh I agree about that. I died a little inside everytime I checked Billboard after coming home from school on Thursday and seeing those dreaded BEPs on top again. I like them, but their BBHot100 reign was overkill. It's not at all unlikely that BTW's reign will be dissimilar either. Her US iTunes lead has stabilised and is beginning to increase and her airplay is skyrocketing after falling (due to the rolling week effect).

I have noticed debuts at #1 are happening more often now though. Like every lead single that Britney Spears and Eminem release in the US will go to #1 the way things are going.

But yes, it's pretty amazing when it happens there. Not only because of the airplay factor, but also because, unlike the UK, the majority of songs are released for download in the US with very little promotion beforehand.

Also, British artists CAN do well in the US! Look at Taio Cruz. I was in the US in the summer. Taio was so popular, it was actually unbelievale. Just like being there, Dynamite and Break Your Heart were played all the time. And US seems to be more involved in the culture aswell. Like they always had music on really, really load in all the shopping centres, and in restaurants and stuff. And it wasn't like elevator music, it was current chart music, so Taio Cruz was literally everywhere! I kept going on about how he was English, and most of the people there seemed shocked to find that out. I guess they all naturally presume he's American, until they discover otherwize (i.e. they hear him speak ).

Taio Cruz is successful in the US because, as you say regarding what Americans said, there's nothing at all about him to suggest he's not from there. He songs often sound like every generic hit to come from the other side of the Atlantic.

No doubt this has been mentioned somewhere in the last 20 pages of banal $h!t but the music channels seem to be using the Brit Performance of SLY on heavy rotation now.

Good news. Hopefully with that on music channels, adele can stop Ga Ga from going anywhere near #1.

Given that it's already down to #9 on iTunes, that hardly seems a credible threat, anyway...

Ellie Goulding has broken the top 100 :).

Thank you to who ever deleted the other two posts :).

fair point but Grenade feels like it been around for months on end, did it come out in January or December? I guess I wouldn't mind so much if I loved the song, even though that makes me sound like a hypocrite

Grenade was released September 2010, in the US. The album was also released a lot earlier in the US if you remember. So the majority on this site probably heard Grenade way before its initial release date in the UK hence why they're tired of hearing it.

Whereas Yeah 3x was released in October 2010, but didn't reach anywhere near a high status as Grenade, so wouldn't have been as well known before its release.

I personally don't like either, but they are both still very good songs to sing along to when out and deserve all there success :)

Is that the same outfit she wore on the "Price Tag" cover?

Has Jessie J performed on Graham Norton? I guess her lead must be bigger now!
