March 10, 201114 yr I haven't actually seen the list of 1996 #1s but I'm just guessing that Firestarter and Breathe are unlikely to figure in anyone's top 10s aside from a certain number of big fans (incl. me of course) just due to the sheer number of #1s that year and the fact they're hardly the most BJ friendly songs ever. I'm hoping that they'll get enough big points from fans to get at least one of them to qualify if not both. I'm fairly confident Firestarter at least will make the wildcard list if not the main list but I'm more worried about Breathe which is the better of the two songs in my opinion (although with Firestarter being my second favourite song of all time and Breathe being my first, that doesn't say anything bad about the quality of Firestarter :P) I don't think the type of people voting in this (at least so far) are the types that would put an entire Gaga top 3 if we were voting for 2009, ha. Of course that might change as we get into the later years but right now most of the voters seem to have a very varied taste, and that's definitely being reflected in the results. I'm quite sure that Firestarter will do well, picking up a LOT of high votes and also plenty of casual votes mid-table to bottom. They'll easily at least get 200 points which should be enough to qualify, but I can see them getting much more and winning the group. The list of #1s in 1996 isn't that BJ-friendly bar 3 Spice Girls songs (which will be fairly split) and a Eurovision song IMO. But yeah, I don't see Breathe making it in. It's good though, but Firestarter is a candidate for my 15 in 1996, while Breathe would be more like mid-votes.

March 13, 201114 yr Great idea! :w00t: :yahoo: :cheer:  I am so pi**ed off that Queen missed out on a top 4 placing because it was soooo close to The Clash, although I wanted Clash to go through as well and not Enigma's elevator music borefest. So this will mean in the final there will be 50 songs to vote from, but before then there'll be 30 "wildcard" songs. Hopefully The Prodigy will get through in this case, as I can see them just missing the top 4, I'm not sure which of their number ones is more popular, but I can see them getting lots of votes. Plus there are soooo many good songs in 1999 and 1997 - plus I was born in 1997 :D Current songs through to the "wildcard" round are: +213 1991 Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody/These Are The Days of Our Lives (1991)" (5th) +199 1990 Adamski "Killer" (5th) +167 1991 Chesney Hawkes "The One and Only" (6th) +151 1990 Maria McKee "Show Me Heaven" (6th) +151 1991 Cher "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" (7th) +148 1990 England New Order "World in Motion" (7th) And a current scores update: 3 songs are already over 200 points, it's a close round between Shakespears Sister and Snap!, Wet Wet Wet are currently last. Keep on voting - next round will come Saturday morning :D Cop out. Changing the rules part way through just because "Bohemian Rhapsody" wasn't as well liked as some expected. Even if that isn't the reason, that's the way it looks. -- Richard
March 13, 201114 yr Cop out. Changing the rules part way through just because "Bohemian Rhapsody" wasn't as well liked as some expected. Even if that isn't the reason, that's the way it looks. -- Richard no, its because in some years there was a lot of number 1s and it wouldn't be fair if just 4 out of 36 (in 1999's case) songs got through- this way it gives other songs that were popular a second chance and the idea came from someone who doesn't even like Bohemian Rhapsody- so it clearly wasn't the reason :P
